For leveling you can easily go with an AoE stompbuild:
Fists of thunder with Thunderclap rune Cyclone strike with the dodgerune BoH with whatever rune you want 7sided strike with stunrune/moreattacksrune Earth / Fireally Dodgemantra with armorrune
Armorpassive Transcendencepassive passive of choise
Basicly have Thunderclap on m1, cyclone on m2. Thunderclap into a group (its a teleport) and cyclone, clap again, cyclone again. Everything should be dead. If not -> 7sided.
Thats basicly been my build ever since I had most of the skills unlocked. For bosses you can swap some stuff around (dodgerune on thunderfists for example) but thats the general lvlbuild I found works very well. Nice, I'm gonna try it tonight in hell act 1. ^^
AOE build that i used to level Sweeping Wind (Blade) is massive aoe damage. Cyclone, mantra, spirit generator or resolve could be changed based on need / preference. Was great fun cycloning things into sweeping winds and watching them melt. Of note if you use FoT (thunderclap) or deadly reach, that you can shoot barrels etc to reset sweeping wind.

Basically you can clear inferno getting random resist/all resist/dex pieces that are pop up occasionally on the AH for 500k, and decent 800 dps weapon with maybe a loh star, and a normal build that includes earth ally. 700 resist/35k hp and ~20k dps is enough to survive anything inferno will throw at you and figure out how to kill most elites after dying many times to them. Obviously shielding/molten bullshit will give you problems, but as long as you can take 2-3 hits and the mob is kitable, you can kill anything in act 3/4. A lot of posts here are misleading--if you saved up 5-10m to spend on X legendary ring of blocking or whatever, you could have already purchased an entire set of gear and cleared inferno two weeks ago.
|
Also yeah thinking about it when I did inferno act 4 with killing all the elites I came across I probably had an item average of 500k per item because of stuff i found//got cheap and my weapon was the most expensive at 10 mil meaning my total gold was about 20-25 mil I think. That said I wasn't extremely patient and if you just ran around with blind and invul and picked them off bits at a time and skip the harder elites you can do it with even less.

scared for patch have 20mil saved for regear its the end as we know it monks
|
lol im sitting at +15% attack speed atm and no flat DPS hit yet.
So scary. You should regear before patch while it's cheap and sell attack speed while it's expensive. Sold my old ring I found for 3.5 mil. Bought a new amulet and ring with crit%//crit dmg and more dex/resists.

I think with the nerf to AS, it becomes so much more valuable on weapons. while you could go 2.20ish APS with 1.40 weapons (without legendaries/set items), now you can still go there after the nerf with IAS daggers imho.
|
patch is tonight (or today).
i didn't want to sell because maybe it'll still be useful. if inferno gets nerfed relative to the attack speed nerf, then it's kind of like nothing changed. in which case, ias items will /eventually (once people realise this) be valued the same they are now.
plus attacking at 2 ps just seems sooooooooooooooooooooooooo slowww omgg
anyway, im sure we'll have a lot to talk about, more brainstorming with builds etc in 8 hours time.
also want to note i accidently vendored my tzo legendary helm, (12% attk speed inc and 26life per spirit spent) sigh

I am also thinking we might transition to spirit generating runes and stacking LPSS to make up for the reduced LoH returns Theorycrafting is so fun, just wished they would release the patch notes already.
|
picked up a 600+ / 200+ LoH amulet and ring with crit affixes before the server down :p whatever happens my farming isn't gonna stop lol
|
Hmm, patch notes are out. I wonder what this means and why we needed it:
"Mantra of Retribution: Damage will now cap based on the maximum Life of the target"
|
I sold most of my stuff on RMAH to regear. Now that my AS is completely useless, I'm going to try to keep a good AS but try get some crit chance and dmg in there, as they effect dps quite a lot too!
Anyways, I have a pretty decent gear with 8k armor (10k with buff), 750 res all, 24k dps (43 with buff), 2.7AS and 800 LoH. I can't clear first quest of Act 3 cuz EVERYTIME I try to run it, I run into the most retarded elite packs. You simply cannot kill jailer immune molten descerator combo. In fact, jailer with silly affix combo are all retarded. I have given up right now and leveling my DH... I cannot believe I meet all these retarded elites all the time, and theyre always at the choke points too... someone wanna gimme wp to siegebreaker!??

I cleared inferno a3-4 with about 5 deaths last night. Izual killed me more but shouldn't be a problem now that hes super debuffed after this patch.
I got myself about the same stats as exceed, except with a 20% string of ears, and another 8% in my ammy and bracers. 900 LoH but 1.9 aspd. My last purchase a 60 dex Justice lantern helped so much. I even took out a jailer desecrator arcane enchanted mob without dying. My main tactic was cast air ally kite back with keen eye until she dies, cast it again repeat. I can tank 2 elites without air ally just fine once one dies. I probably could tank most mobs myself but its easier to use air ally to be safe, and to make the AIs expend some of the desecrator/arcanes on her.
I really wish monks could do more dmg though, with 22k dps (25k with heal buff) it takes me so much longer solo than with a DH

initial observations : went from 28 dps unbuffed to 21k dps but desecrate pools / plague are less threatening, mobs that hit exponentially hard now dont even do enough damage to offset my LoH (despite the lower attack speed)
|
I dropped all my attack speed and I reached the point where it's like "shit this is too slow" (1.43 = 0 % attack speed without enchantress) on deadly reach. However it means LoH is worse but life regen is actually a lot better. Patch isn't out on EU yet it seems so I can't test the damage numbers. I am lucky enough to have about 518 life regen atm so it's probably about equivialent to life on hit on a single target if you're kiting.

how much % less damage you think we are looking at for a3-a4? 30%? 50%?

What are your stats? Do you think dual wield is an option now?

If the mobs are hitting that softer, I want to get my string of ears out of my hands before patch hits EU. Need confirmation

i would say 50% is a good estimate, subjecator ranged attacks would hit for about 1/5 of my health are doing much less, oppressor charge is also very manageable now

my stats + Show Spoiler +
yes i could see myself losing the shield and still surviving easily, the damage from fire chains / arcane sentries / plague are greatly reduced to the point where it is now possible to just tank them instead of kiting. i dropped deadly reach (imo was compulsory before 1.03) for sweeping wind now for the additional dps.
|
Dual wielding is only an option if you have the gear for it--the point at which the reduced time you kill things makes up for the increased times you will die (when you are able to burst 50%+ of most elites hp within serenity imo). Otherwise I would just stick with a shield and play it safe till then.

Some thinking out loud from my side:
The below image currently shows how much certain stats are worth for my monk. I'm running at 1600 dex 15 crit and 50 crit damage.
![[image loading]](http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/1231/statsvr.png)
But this is before patch so we need to divide the AS value by two for post-patch.
This means for me, getting a 50 dex 4 crit 20 crit damage ring nets 50+31.68+59.5= 140ish points, but since my crit increases with the ring, the crit damage will be more valuable, so lets say around 150 points.
A 50 dex 15 as 4 crit ring now becomes 8 AS and provides 50+93.2+31.68= 175 points.
And not to mention the second ring is much more expensive. I guess crit chance and crit damage will be the answer.
So I decided to go ahead and invest 1.5m in this amulet before patch hits:

hope it was a good decision
