This is a short video I made of running Keep Depths 2 and 3 as concisely as I can using TR for movement between packs and better positioning on elites. I made this because most videos I see on youtube of Monks using TR don't make it look very effective when at higher levels of play it's at least as good as cookie cutter. To be honest, that really isn't a TR build. It's a cookie-cutter build with one less skill that you've swapped out for TR, enough spirit/s from gear that allows you to move between trash mobs with TR, and enough DPS/stats to do A3 without Blazing Wrath.
Ideally Blizzard should just give Tailwind's move buff to every TR rune, raise the damage enough that you can use it against elites, and maybe nerf the CC somewhat. Then you could truly use it as an attack skill instead of a minor mobility one.

I wouldn't be too opposed to them reworking the entire Monk playstyle by nerfing spirit generator damage, massively buffing the spirit generated, and giving us an standard spirit per second. Maybe allow combination strike to work with spenders as well.

Anyone know the diminishing returns on dashing strike - flying side kick?
I just cleared normal on HC with terrible DPS by stunlocking Diablo. Interrupted his bone prisons and fireball spells and everything. He hit me maybe 10 times due to the battle lasting for a long time.
Inferno stunlocking viable?

No stuns don't work in inferno

Hey I was wondering if any dual wield monks could help me out. I see these monks streaming that have "glass cannon" builds. They seem to have similar defensive stats as me but I can't seem to stay alive in act 3, even against certain white mobs. I realize that they do a ton of damage and the point is to kill before you get killed and they have life leech, yet surely they must take some damage, especially from ranged mobs. Herald of pestilence in particular destroy me. I watch the streams and I rarely see them go below 25% hp from a hit but when I try it I take a ton of damage and often die very quickly. And this is with me using hard target instead of overawe.
My defensive stats are 6500 def, 500 AR, 35k hp, 45% dodge. I do about 50k buffed paper dps while dual wielding with a WKL so my actual dps isn't that bad I think. I don't think it's my positioning cause it's not like it's standing in ground effects that get me killed. It's just that even white mobs like those cows in killing fields hit really hard when I don't have a shield equipped and I'm just wondering what I'm missing.

Link your profile. Try to focus on using your four defensive abilities (BoH, BF, HP pot, Serenity) in sequence and appropriately. For example, if you see a pack of heralds while fighting a bunch of cows and ranged cows, pop serenity and focus fire the heralds. Then blinding flash the cows to take them out, and so on.

Here's my armory profile http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Redrach-1209/hero/5315059 I have a lot less damage than you, slightly more AR, and slightly less def and hp but I can farm A3 just fine, mostly because I have 2k+ life on hit. In fact I could probably do better with slightly more DPS and less LoH, but the LoH definitely helps a ton.

Profile would help a lot, but as a hunch... do you use resolve?
Because there are so many mobs in the Fields that most of them are probably un-debuffed, especially the spear chuckers. And it's hard to spot those incoming spears when you focus on the giant cows.
Also, Hand of Pestilence's ground effect is slightly larger than the visual animation; it's caught me more times than I'd care to remember.
Then again, you could just be lacking sustain... so ya, profile link would help.

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Rawrasaurus-1579/hero/15199427 My goldfinding monk She was not always in goldfind but after beating inferno i had to re-purpose her This is she in DPS mode. Currently i have concussion on crippling wave normally would be the DMG one To when i go into tanking mode change mainhand to 620 dps weapon with 9% ias and 800 LOH Off Hand = Shield with 70 AR and 20%block (this one has no +block >< im poor) all i do is: 4.Mantra Of Convict (overawe) ---> Healing(Time of Need) 3.Blinding flash (DMG) -----> Elites miss% 2.Serenity (healing rune) always!! 1.Breath of heaven (DMG) ---->heal R.C.Cyclone strike (dodge rune) <---- this + LoH + crippling wave = u never die L.C.Crippling Wave (damage rune) --->Concussion <------- -20% dmg dealt from targets affected by this
Crip Wave (Conc) > Resolve ANY DAY OF ANY YEAR OF ANY CALENDER!!!!
As per passives... Dps = Chant (free spirit regen if u got none its amazing) Otherwise Guiding Light//Path of Guardian//One with Everything Tank= PASIFISM// Seize the Initiative OR Sixth Sense if you have HIGH CRIT over 30% base ONLY//One with Everything
Stats
MIN 700 VITA 1000 DEX 800 AR = 75% The sweet spot, 900 VITA 1400 DEX 1200 AR=81% Godlike 1200 VITA 1800DEX 1600 AR=86%
Weapons: Tanking: MINIMUM 600 loh SWEET 800 LOH + 9% IAS GODLIKE 800 LOH+9% IAS +Soccet+Bonus Crit+VITA +DEX DPS: MINIMUM 100dex 50% bonus crit SWEET 200 DEX 90% Bonus crit GODLIKE 300DEX 90% Bonus crit +SOCCET+IAS
Okay so i hope this helps people who are thinking about monks, And yes there are lots of builds floating around but this IMO is SOLID Cause you can Fill 2 Roles With the same skill just by changing runes and to be honest one the the monks only Downsides is the fact that you spend half the game chasing things and trying to get in a good position....
My build Revolves around Quickly Clumping mobs(Cyclone Strike) and using AOE BURSTS (cripling wave) to Pummel EVERYTHING
In dps mode you should OUTRIGHT MERC EVERYTHING before it has a chance to do any real dmg to you And this is how you do it, (fill in the blanks) 4=MANTRA 3=BLINDING FLASH 2=SERENITY 1= BREATH OF LIFE LC=CRIPPLING WAVE RC = CYCLONE 1>RC>4>3>LC>LC>LC "omg im taking DMG "2">LC>LC>LC>LC
In tanking mode, its a slower grind because your not relying on dmg, but on LoH+AR to stay alive so using cyclone strike to clump targets and crippling wave to hit as many as possible, you are near immortal till the clump of mobs thins out And this is how you do it, (fill in the blanks) 4=MANTRA 3=BLINDING FLASH 2=SERENITY 1= BREATH OF LIFE LC=CRIPPLING WAVE RC = CYCLONE RC>4>3>LC>LC>LC "omg im taking DMG "1+2">LC>LC>LC>LC
Notice what i did there? Only difference is that in DPS 1 is dmg buff so it goes first, in tanking 1 is a heal so it goes with 2, But OTHER THEN THAT IDENTICAL!!!!!
so its easy to learn and get used to and its not a big hassle to swap a few pieces of gear and some runes + 1 mantra and WHAM your now a Dps or Tank
This tanking build is LOVED by anyone you play with, for example Monk + Wizz // Monk + DH // Monk + CLEAVE Barb // Monk + AoE DPS = WIN You stack em they drop em Nuff said now get out there and be a pro monk! Happy Hunting

Just hit 100k dps unbuffed ... took me a long time to be able to get nats set. Crazy thing is I bought a cheap nat's ring and ended up finding one 30 mins after. It rolled 85 vit and crit damage, but wasn't as good as the one I bought. Sold it for twice as much as I paid for mine. People overvalue crit damage a lot.

Grats! Very sexy gear
Forgive me for i just hit 60 with my monk and am still learning the works, but it seems like your AR is pretty low. Do you find yourself suffering at all because of that our does your dps more than make up for it?

I'm pretty sure my res are better than most dual wielding monks. I'm at 745 with OWE. More than this really isn't worth it, you're better off going for armor. I also have a high double res/vit/dext/9.5% crit shield with a lot of armor for 1.0.5 MP10.

Ahh, you're right, thats very sufficient! I think i just read your profile wrong, thought your AR was much lower =P

Finally bought 2p inna's. Kinda wish I didn't sell my old jewelry off in anticipation of the patch(admittedly I made a tidy profit) or I'd have near 100k+ as well =(.
Also really wish there was a way to determine where damage came from on skills, although I know 20% WKL is ~13-17% more damage.

Hello guys
Profile: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Acronysis-1524/hero/1405273
So I recently hit 60 and have been working on gearing up my monk. Right now, I can survive in a3, and kill nearly all elite armies but dying isn't too uncommon haha. I'm trying to gear myself up, but i just feel like there is so many different things to focus on (dex, loh, ar, crit, crit dam, vit, etc.) that i'm having trouble gearing.
Looking at my profile, youll see my AR is decent and my loh is decent. This has helped me to survive a3, but as you can also see my dps is reallyyy low. I'm trying to increase it (slowly moving towards better gear), but what are the stats i should emphasize and what stats (if any) could i back off a little on?
Any help is appreciated. I have some money to spend, but not 100's of millions. Somewhere around 10m to start since i'm still trying to find a decent legendary to sell. Thanks!

Need a LOT more dex. Try to get around +1500 from gear. You mainly want to be gearing crit% after that, with crit damage coming purely from weapons/sockets.
Replace your gloves with something that has like 200 dex 50 fire resist and 9 crit chance.
Mostly it's just you need to get dex up and crit chance up. Crit damage is actually a pretty cost inefficient way of increasing DPS outside of weapons.

Get boots with runspeed - yours aren't that great. With the gear level you have already, it should be extremely painless to switch to a dual wielding build. Sell your shield and buy an offhand with lifesteal, socket, and crit damage. You may consider switching your shoulders to a Vile Ward at some point. While your current shoulders are good, they aren't BiS, and Vile ward is. Your gloves need an upgrade.
