While I fully understand where you're coming from, the only real advice I could give you is not getting your hopes up. Just one item, no matter how good it is, won't impact the game as much as you'd hope. This is coming from someone who had +600 loh from one item, who bought SoE with 18% melee reduction and then sold it, who had 2 Kymbo's Gold so far, etc. I'm not saying the items aren't good, but what I am saying is that you won't be able to just go from act 1 to act 2 because of one item or anything major like that.
So if I were you, I wouldn't necessarily look for a "best in slot", as you said, but for something that would really improve your stats. Look at your items and see which one doesn't have decent specs (str+vit+allres). Look at your DPS and your shield block chance. If all seem ok, then you can try getting a really good kymbo just to make sure that you won't want to change your amulet ever again. If not, change one or two of your weakest items.
That being said, a good stormshield might make a significant difference, due to a huge improvement in block change (>30% as opposed to <20% what I assume you have now), but good stormshields don't usually come cheap. (again, assuming you are balanced with resists/armor/damage), but since you said this is the first time you broke 1M, I really doubt that the Stormshield is the best upgrade for you. Also look at Justice Lantern and String of Ears for bargains, but don't feel obligated to spend 3M on something that will just give you say, 20% melee reduction, because that won't be as noticeable if your other items are below-par.

Has anyone got the gem recipe on the US server?

I can craft flawless star and perfect star amethysts.

I'm looking to improve my boots, gloves, bracers, and helm to stuff that has 100+ str and vit and 50+ all res. How much do each of these three pieces typically go for in NA? I have tried looking through the auction house, but it's hard to call what is underpriced, overpriced, or just right. Can anybody give me some figures?
Much appreciated.

Usually a few million for those stats.

For each piece.
100 str, 100 vit, 50 res is asking for a lot lol...

ugh, I guess I'm not upgrading anytime soon.
suggestion: in addition to 30% damage reduction, melee classes classes get 30% magic find and 30% gold find to help finance their equipment

Just remember the patch is out in a few weeks. If your trying to upgrade look for bargains...Inferno isn't a race but how you can upgrade items significantly without spending to much.

Picked up a 29% block stormshield + Show Spoiler + for 7.5 mil (buyout at 1d11h). New stats + Show Spoiler + are similar to what I had before but with 10k less health and 100 more resists (and more block of course). Now looking to upgrade chest/legs (no str on those) and then finally save up for a nice life on hit weapon. I'll probably need to replace my current amulet + Show Spoiler + when 1.0.3 comes out and reduces the effectiveness of attack speed so perhaps I'll go back to Kymbo or a rare with stats similar to Kymbo.
I haven't even killed Azmodan yet but I'll probably kill him today and make an initial attempt on Diablo tomorrow. Come to think of it, the Stormshield probably isn't very good for bosses anyway since I'd rather have more HP for health globe and shrine healing.

You don't have enough LOH for Diablo.. unless you want to stand around for 30 mins waiting for pot cd and health well.

I just went through the new to Inferno process the past day and this guy is completely right. Don't buy a delicious, delicous fish- buy fishing equipment. If you're gonna make a million plus splash with that money, get a good weapon. Then get some cheap legendaries. I got Goldskin for 100k, Kymbos for 240k, bad SoE for 330k, Bul-kathos for 240k. Yes, you'll need to upgrade some of these but anything worth it (250+ total stats, 60+ all res) is in the millions. And do listen to the raves about Block. A good shield does block all damage so you can almost read it as Dodge. 15% Dodge vs 20%Dodge. Much more important than any Str or Vit on the shield so Helm of Command and Justice Lantern basically gives 8% and 11% dodge.

So, on the flip side of the coin, what should I be farming?
I can farm anything in A1 and most of A2, but I'm up against that brick wall that is the beginning of A3. I haven't had the chance to put together a good MFing set, but I'd need to farm for that as well. Most of the farming methods I'm accustomed to don't seem to generate gold at an appreciable rate compared to the astronomical cost of upgrades at this point. For those who've made it over the hump, what do you feel is the most efficient way to farm for where I'm at? Iskatu runs? Go back to Warden/Butcher? A2 Goblin? A3 Resplendent Chest? Should I prioritize getting an MF set at this stage, and how much should I be willing to pay for one?
Honestly, if anything, the jump from A2 to A3 feels like its most exacerbated by the fact that A2 is an absolutely awful act to farm. Whereas you can farm your way into A2 by doing 5-stack Warden/Butcher runs, A2's layouts in general are just annoying and shitty for farming.

I can do Zhotun + Belial with 5 stacks in about 40 minutes you might want to try that its really easy, I just start at kill Zhotun then waypoint around and find 5 stacks, if you find that crumbling ruin place that falls apart it has a few elites and a resplendent sometimes. . I've also been doing A2 goblins(If anybody wants to do act 2 goblins on U.S. or whatever, add me TLBluebird#1258)
I really need to get some farming in this weekend, want to try to beat inferno before the major changes to the game.
Honestly the act 2 item drops just don't seem to be worth much now though compared to even a week ago and I need friends too do goblins which is more time efficient and they aren't always on etc, where a week ago the items from act 2 goblins/maghda runs I was doing were worth more it feels. It might just be my luck, but at least I can clear Act 2 easily now with the $ I made, just cant do anything act 3
I can't even get past the first quest in A3 , so resplendent chest and Iskatu seem kind of out of reach for me cant comment on them, I know farming siegebreaker is my goal but that seems a while off still.

Me and my DH friend (sometimes another wiz) have been running 5NV Siegebreaker runs or Chest runs if we're feeling kind of lazy. We just open our own games and invite each other of we find a gold chest. I ran 5NV Maghda runs for a few days until I got fed up with it and moved directly to A3.
As far as MF set goes, I have one that gives me +221% Magic Find, but I just got them from crappy blues/yellows that I have found while doing runs have crappy stats but add MF. I don't think it's worth it to spend actual gold to buy pieces of MF gear.

Anyone know of an EHP calculator thing that includes block? Trying to figure out if I should buy a helm of command or not. Or can anyone tell me just how good block is?

On June 08 2012 06:28 TheYango wrote: So, on the flip side of the coin, what should I be farming?
I was in a similar position a week ago. Could clear act 2 but farming it was inefficient (aside form Goblins which I personally found boring). I didn't have an offense + MF set for goblins anyway, nor people on my friend list I could farm them with. Maghda runs took too long due to bad base mob types on the elites and Kulle -> Belial runs were off the table due to Kulle needing a weapon throw build for me. Going back to Warden/Butcher wasn't an option due to low ilvl.
I went for Iskatu runs after Shikyo raved about them and that's worked out really well for me. I've made about 30mil in 20 hours but I believe I was fairly lucky (had an amulet drop I sold for 10mil). With commodity auctions back online the profits have gone up a bit, too, enough to partially offset the flood of ilvl 63 blues on the AH.
Unfortunately I was delayed on the Act 2 to Act 3 transition by first leveling a Demon Hunter from 1-60 for farming Whimsyshire. Even a fresh 60 DH can handle the Act 3-level trash in Whimsyshire because they're all melee (and they give ilvl 63 loot) but the elites were too obnoxious to farm it easily. Granted if I invested more than ~1.5mil in the DH's gear and some time to learn to kite better I might have made that work but Iskatu solved the problem anyway.
