I mean if you have something that gives you 20% reduction out of 100 dmg, you would take 80 damage. Then if you add something that adds 4%, it will deduct 4% out of the 80 dmg left, meaning, 3.2dmg.
So 20+3.2 = 23.2%
I'm not sure if it supposed to be like this but it does make sense, somewhat. I guess that makes sense. I just assumed things would be added on front end (add percentage together then reduce damage). In the way you explain, you could never truly reach 100% damage reduction, which of course makes sense. Thanks for explanation
Well, blizzard made it so that there is a cap on each stat on any particular item, and only some items get damage reduction, so I don't think you can go over 26.2% or so anyway. Like, for example, the best LoH you could get on a Kymbo's gold is 303 I think. Or the best melee reduction on a shield 4%, on a belt 20%, etc. Not sure about the values but you get my point. This is the highest block/reduction I've seen so far: ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ZFTh2.jpg)
Either way, really good purchases, both of them. I got bored of waiting for a good Stormshield and just got shoulders and helm instead. Don't think it was such a good idea since I would really need some more block chance, but I'm getting a Justice Lantern next I guess.

Sorry I'm just so happy right now Edit: My melee reduction is 23.2% rather than 24% so somewhere I have been robbed!! This is madness! Even though...if I put on just my belt, it says 20%, if I put on just my SS, it says 4%...very odd =/ That's because 4% of 100 is 4, and 20% of 100 is 20, it's same thing it just looks weird. Very very nice find on stormshield, congrats , mine only has 25% block and I spent twice what you did, I got the vital as well though which I was looking for. Looking to farm up another big ticket item at the moment. Maybe a nice gloves, havent got a good one right now.
Thank you! When I first saw it I only saw the 30% block which I knew was instabuy, then when I saw it chillin in my stash, I was like holy shit it has vit too...made me happy
My next purchase will be gloves too...mine are utter shit, I mean literal shit here. But I've been holding out for a huge upgrade. I really want the usual vit/str/all resist WITH attack speed. I figure it will be very nice to help with my life on hit. But of course such an item is impossible to find at an affordable price atm.
And anywho, how much strength would attack speed be worth? Let's say I have 15% IAS, what is that worth compared to str? I have a hard time figuring out how much str I should be willing to sacrifice. Like I said, I want the IAS due to LoH.

I need a good helm too, but hard to find a decent one with a socket. I've been wanting a Justice Lantern as well, but I've had serious doubts about it. I'm just not sure if extra block would be worth the sacrifice of damage and all resist. Likewise, I've considered a Helm of Command, which I would definitely buy if I could ever get one with a socket + all resist, but those are too expensive atm.

Depends on your weapon DPS. Str is not super important if you have it over 1000, preferably over 1100. But damage is important, because if you have 850dps and 1200 str you will have 10200 damage, and if you have 1050dps and 1000str you will have 10500 damage, the only real loss being the extra 200 armor (which translates to ~300 with the bonuses from shout, ench, passives etc.).

Hey,
my barb is getting to 60 today and after reading alot here i think i found a pretty good starting weapon for my barb...
if i remember correctly it has somewhere between
1H 650-730 DPS ~905 LoH 120-140Dex 120-140Str Socket im not sure... not at home atm!
How important is more DPS on the weapon for me in that scenario? Should i stick with that a long time? If i read the information here correctly 900 loh seems to be pretty godly on a 1h like that?
|
Ya 905 LoH on a 1H is pretty godly, especially with socket. You can get to 1300+ with weapon itself. You'll probably want to keep it until you find something similar with higher DPS.

Finally, one week without Diablo 3 is difficult T_T. Now I have to read the last 10 pages of this thread to get myself up-to-date .

Hey I have a quick calculation question.
If I use frenzy with maniac (+30% damage) and I use Hammer of the Ancients with the damage rune (270% weapon damage).
Will my Hammer deal 300% weapon damage? Is that how it works?
|
No, unless the maniac rune actually said "+30% to hammer of ancients". The maniac rune literally multiples your total damage by 130% (this is better)
Btw, it's 20%, if I'm looking at the game guide. Maybe it's outdated.
|
So, I'm now at a point where I can somewhat reasonably farm Act II. There are still some monster combinations that I have to skip, and most champions and elites still take at least one life from me before I can kill them, but I can get together 5 NV stacks and kill Magdha.
However, is this even worth it? Is there a noticeable jump in equipment quality (itemlvl) from Act 1 to Act 2? Or would I be better of just farming A1 for money until I can get enough gear to complete A2?
|
Pretty sure goblin farming is faster.

You're right, it's 20%.
Alright thanks for the answer.
So If I'm using frenzy and Wrath with Insanity (+100% damage) with a weapon that does 100 damage (after strength).
I will deal:
(100 x 2.7) x 2.2 = 594 damage ? (2.2 from frenzy giving 20% and insanity 100%)
right?
And if I crit (with 100% bonus) I will deal 594 + 100%? (so, x2, for a total of 1188)
P.S I watched some Game of Thrones while eating breakfast this morning. I'm starting to really like the father of the Lannisters. He's a cold, logical jerk.

Goblin farming got seriously nerfed. When I first found out about it I got some seriously good items, and sold stuff for about 1.5M from 5-6 hours of farming. Total gold farmed that night was 2.2M.
Last night I tried it again for about 1-2 hours, and I got NO items that was worth over 50-100k on AH. And that with full MF gear, over 220% MF. I tried both spots on Act2, but it was pointless. At first I thought it was all placebo effect, since I knew Blizz would nerf it, but then my friends said it blows as well.
I don't know what's wrong with all these people posting guides and videos for each of these "semi-abuse" things that pop out. Us barbs could have used a bit of a break.
On the bonus part though, that area seems to be good for Legendaries. In those 5-6 hours in the first day I found 2 legendary items (mostly crap though), in rocks and a sun bleached corpse. Total sell value was about 600k.
|
So where do you go to goblin farm these days?
|
Yeah, us barbs really need a break... It's kind of ridiculous.

Best spot I found was act 2 road to alcarnus wp, you go south and activate the bridge checkpoint, then scout the area. around the wp. If you don't find it, re-make, you start from the bridge, do a quick loop and waypoint-out if you don't find him.
It still shows up about 1 in 6 tries, but the huge difference is that: - it gives much less yellows, I now get 1 yellow in 2-3 attempts, before that I had almost guaranteed yellow and most of the times I had 2 - the magic/rares are crap, way worse than you get for elite mobs in act 2
So I don't know what happened but I can guarantee that my loot took a serious hit. It still might be faster than act 2 if you struggle with it, but the items are just for scrap as far as I can tell. Nothing over 600dps 2 hand, nothing over 500dps one hand, only had one item with resists today and it was a pair of chromatic blue pants. Hope I get 25k for them.. wooo...
|
It might have been nerfed or it might just be bad RNG. I haven't farmed goblins seriously since Sunday. Between four people, our profits probably total over 50mil in just two days. Our legendary / set count is about a dozen.
I'm doing some right now, the drop rate of yellows haven't been nerfed. Gold and blue bag spawn haven't been nerfed. But I haven't found anything worth millions yet.
I have 257 mf with 16k dps btw, can get to 18k dps maybe if I socket gems rofl.

So on a shield, when it says +7% block on a shield, is it already implemented to the block percentage? So say a shield has 20% block, will it be 27% or was the shield originally 13% block?
|
I did it on sunday night as well. It worked wonders. Hoever, yesterday/today I'm getting way less yellows. I just tried right now and I got 1 rare in 4 tries. And it's a 180armor boot with 20 res. I still get a bunch of blues for sure, but very few yellows. Might be my poor 200% mf, I can't tell, but it was much better on Sunday.
@above: all specs are already implemented. Armor, Block chance, Damage, etc. So yes, if it says 20% and has +7% block chance then it was originally 13%.

treasure goblin farming is so boring though!
Once you have the gear I definitely recommend act 3 spider -> azmodan. Once your group gets into the groove runs only take 15-30M depending on # of champs on the clear. You get around 15-25 rares per run, countless blues and decent legendary/set drop rates. It's also the highest item level tier for drops, same as act 4, but way faster and easier. We ran probably 4-5 hours sat and sun and as a group made 60-70 million, got decent amount of legit upgrades, and 15-20 legendary/set items (most bad rolls though QQ).
It's also more 'fun' than zoning in looking for the goblin over and over. One thing though, I wouldn't recommend running with people you don't fully know and/or trust. Part of the success of the runs is that everyone is willing to share and show what they got so that you can give upgrades away. Defeats the purpose if you have stingy friends. I know we found and gave each other upgrades of 5-15M per piece because someone else in the group happened to find.

so I just started inferno, anyone can tell me what stats should I have? I have currently 9k dmg, 5.3k armor, 47k hp, ~170resists. should I upgrade? thanks.
