I KNOW that it's spammable with WW, that's exactly the point. Try any other build (HotA - furios charge?) and you can't.
well.... its spammable as long as into the fray is active, nothing to do with sprint or ww.
generally I can get 8-10 hits before having to use frenzy vs one target starting at full fury, (remember the extra crit from wotb and hota itself) and its indefinite vs more than one target. sprint is just there because it can be sustained almost 100% of the time while into the fray is active, so I dont see why you would purposely use another mobility skill. If you want to purposely not use into the fray then I guess its not spammable, but if the option is there, then why not?
2h is superior to 1h if you can oneshot white mobs with cleave-rupture, at which point the clearing speed of it can probably beat ww. other than that I think that 2h is much weaker, since your dps is actually quite a bit lower than dw because you dont have wotb, and cant keep up bash/frenzy stacks.
the reason I use frenzy-maniac over bash-punish is for two reasons, 1. frenzy generates fury faster, useful when going through white mobs or to get starting fury 2. bash's knockback is imo, extremely annoying 3. frenzy's single target dps is higher in a long fight, which makes it better than bash when you are out of fury for hota
as for sprint-marathon, my main problem with it is its not self sustainable, so you have to keep recommitting fury to keep it up. The extra speed is nice, but the extra damage from run like the wind is nice to have too

I KNOW that it's spammable with WW, that's exactly the point. Try any other build (HotA - furios charge?) and you can't. I meant it's spammable with the WW setup (namely just having Battlerage and WotB). Honestly you could probably get away with not even having a standard fury generator if you want to (for example a build like Overpower/HotA/WotB/Battlerage/WW/Sprint would work well).
Edit: The reason I keep WW in every build is because of positioning. 99% of the time you don't need it but that 1% of the time when you get trapped against mobs with shielding/wall/arcane and you can't life steal off them you'll need an escape or you'll die. Leap works fine as well but WW is more fun to use for me.

Not much can compete with the WW specs however i would say that this one does
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#ZeURkP!ZhW!ZbbYcZ
A 2 hander with 5 fury reduction on hota and the 5 piece bonus of the IK set provides enough fury for it while staying at high fury, which means hota almost always has upwards of 20% additional crit chance.
It should be possible to do something similar without the IK set but it may have some fury problems. Also there is some flexibility with runes. You do have to watch out for getting surrounding, you can kite with sprint and seismic slam. I would recommend it.

Since my throwing build is getting kind of stale and I've missed a patch or two, which are the predominant builds that don't require a shield right now? The problem is that I don't have great defensive stats, 0 LoH and only 2.8 LL.
Right now I'm farming the keys (1/4 so far), but after that I'd like to farm Act 3 predominantly.

Oh well, i'll have to jump on the "what should I buy next" train.

Most of the gear in question is from 1.04 or so, I was quite busy this autumn (BSc thesis etc) so I logged in a couple of days ago and started working on my barb.
It looks like the 'armory' updated my char profile recently, I dont see anything missing. At the moment im farming Act III on MP1. Till yesterday I was doing it on MP2 with a sword&board but it was quite booring (the dps wasn't bad at all, I have a 1200 dps Skysplitter, but the build was too tanky and slow). Saw the build im using right now 1-2 pages back and the single target dps really is amazing. My main problem right now is the survivability. My fire resist is quite low, im using a bad Andariel's Visage (i found it and decided to keep it and use it) so molten/fire chains just tear me apart if im not careful. Phaseshift-something beasts have insane physical damage so they can quickly take me down if I dont kill them (or the Succubi with the armor debuff) fast enough.
Current gear problems: Legs, chest and boots are quite bad, rings are mediocre but they work for now. The weapon is a gift from my cousin (well not exactly cousin but something like that) so until I get a Skorn I'll use that. Shoulders should be ok for now. Weapon - I was planning to buy myself a 2.5-3mil skorn (no lifesteal, 330+ str, ~180% crit dmg) but I think that I have other issues at hand. I obviously need some resists (especially fire). When I cover this problem i'll try to get some IAS, crit dmg and/or crit% on my items.
Oh, another serious problem: LoH items are really expensive (and i switched to 2H anyway), I still dont have enough DPS for a lifesteal build. The only thing thats healing me right now is the Rend. That's obviously a serious drawback for this build.
Suggestions?
Thanks!
Edit: At the moment im sitting on 2.5 mil gold, can make them 3mil till tomorrow. I would like to buy something soon as my farming isn't really stable now.

I'd like some help as well, Ive been playing mostly DH up until now so I dont really know what i need to ww barb properly.

You've already provided an accurate assessment of your own gear, so no need to repeat what you've laid out. Your resists seem sufficient, but you do need to up your vit and dps. Easiest way is through chest and leg pieces. Decent gear is dirt cheap these days, so shop for chest with 200+ vit and some sockets. Likewise for the pants.
A 1200dps skorn with 300str and 150 base crit dmg can be had for ~5m on the NA AH, so that would be something to aim for. LoH isn't effective for a 2h build, so try and grab some life steal on your belt. The life steal passive also works well in combination with the Rend lifesteal rune.

You nailed most of it. But here are some general thoughts (some you have mentioned).
1. More crit chance, crit damage, attack speed, strength 2. Lifesteal belt and if needed, bloodthirst passive. 3. Sell those shoulders and get similar rare ones with higher strength. Strength rolls up to 300 on shoulders so anything but tip top vile wards are typically a waste for barbs. 4. Get that skorn. 5. 12% movespeed boots
Your all res and hp are fine so try to keep those where they are at a minimum as you upgrade.
Are you wanting to play a ww barb?

Hi, thanks for the input.
WW is ok, as long as I will be playing with a 2H weapon. Thats my only wish, so to speak. I was really annoyed when I had to sword&board in Act II inferno. I know that normally DW would be better, but I just dont want to play like that.
So yeah, do you have a build in mind (2H WW)?
I'll try to farm some more gold and sell the shoulders overnight :D

You can 2H ww you'll just need to focus extra hard on attack speed on top of the usual stuff like lifesteal/loh, crit chance, crit damage, str, vit, etc. You can probably skip past crit damage for the time being and let your big 2h provide most of that. I haven't used 2h much myself but there are several who post in this thread that do so hopefully one of them can give you some specifics. GL!

Start by using Rend - Bloodlust instead of Ignore Pain. Now your'e just better! You could also experiment with BattleRage in place of leap, but some prefer the utility of leap or charge. I think Maniac is better than Sidearm for frenzy, but don't quote me.
For 30m you could buy a Skorn and replace your helm and be better off imo, but I use a shield still and I like it. Personally I'd look into getting a higher block% shield if you're gonna use a shield and getting some movespeed if you wanna farm faster.
More dps can be found by replacing a ring (more crit%/critdmg/attckspeed) or upgrading to a critdmg+socketed weapon. I also highly recommend getting 2.5% lifesteal atleast on your belt. 57k hp might be excessive, but at higher MPs I don't know what barbs are doing. Normally I'd say 50 is enough, 40 is min.

if you want to use 2h, I wouldnt recommend going ww. since ww relies very heavily on fast attacks to generate fury for wotb, if you do manage to get enough fury for that, it just means you are committing way more on attack speed and less on crit chance/damage compared to dual wield, as a result your overall dps will definitely be a lot lower than dw for similar level of fury generation. Instead, if you want to run 2h, I would recommend a combination of skills that doesnt particularly scale with attack speed. some combination of cleave-rupture, rend, furious charge, seismic slam, ignore pain, wotb-insanity, weapon throw are all good choices.

So Im currently finishing leveling my barbarian and since I dont know much about them I have a few questions.
1) What is the most popular and 'by the book' skill setup for the ww barb. 2) What stats should I aim for in terms of dps, as, ls, loh, all res, armour, hp to be able to do comfortably middle MP levels? 3) Are low end IK set pieces worth it, or is it better to just get some nice rares? I have an ok budget for that, but dont want to overspend for now as it will be only my alt char. Was thinking about getting belt and boots as come with ok initialial stats and 60 AR bonus seems nice. 4) For a ww barb dps on off-hand is not important, right? 6) On jewellery and gloves is it better to go for cc/as + stats or cc+crit dmg + stats?
Cheers!

Cheers! 1. bash-onslaught/instigation/clobber, ww-hurricane, sprint-run like the wind, wotb-thrive on chaos, battle rage-into the fray, warcry-impunity or overpower-killing spree/crushing advance. for passives ruthless, weapon master with axe or mace, bloodlust/unforgiving/armor passive.
2. currently I have 700 res, 6000 armor, 40k hp and I rarely die even at MP9 when solo. I would say get defensive stats around there and then focus on dps. try to avoid loh unless your dps is under 40k, and for ls one piece ls + bloodlust or 2 piece with ls should be ok.
3. 2 piece maybe, depends on how low, 5 piece definitely not worth it unless the pieces are extremely well rolled, since the effect is mostly for convenience, no point if you lose a lot of stats over it.
4. correct, if you are planning on going ww just ignore damage on your offhand and focus only on stats.
5. no 5? O.O
6. either one, if you dont need that as you can generally get more dps getting cd instead if you have to choose between them.

Just curious, does crowd control matter at all to barbs? I found a ring and don't know how to price it since no other ring with similar stats has that stat:
str vit life on hit 400 cc chance (5.5) crowd control 14 %

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll probably go for a ~4Mil Skorn (unless i manage to sell a weap for 2 mil or so).
This is my current build: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Nex-2285/hero/558980 (In case something gets messed up: Bash/Punish, Charge/Merc. Assault, OP/Crushing Advance, Rend/BL, Impunity, Battle Rage/Marauders Rage; Bloodthirst, superstition and Ruthless as passives)
I really, really, really like it for farming and its really fun. The single target DPS is kinda crap, but I managed to go back to MP2 Act III and I only die on really hard packs or if I mess up badly. The damage output with Rend and Overpower isn't great, bash doesn't help that much either but if there are 2-3 enemies on the field Charge is really great. Plus it gives me good maneuverability which is really needed at moments. I'll definitely stay with this build for now, hopefully i'll get myself a Skorn soon and this will give me some freedom
The problem is that I really have no Idea how to play in groups. Can anyone suggest a group-oriented build that is suitable for MP5-6 Keywarden -> Infernal Machine runs? I would prefer doing them with 2H (i should have around 80k dps with Skorn and the build I use for solo) when possible. Sword&Board is really booring (been using it for months..) but if I have to I guess I might stick to the shield when playing with friends.

I'm doing a WW 2h build with skorn. I have 54% crit unbuffed and something like 20% extra attack speed. I still can't keep WotB up for any longer periods of time, however for me the added damage from Skorn in comparison to my DW set more than makes up the lost running time and crit chance from Wrath.
Should be added that I found my Skorn while my DW set is a budget one.

Cleave(Rupture) - Extremely good for 2hand builds. Cleans out packs/trash fast and easily on MP5 for me
Rend(BL) - Main source of sustain & DPS.Trick is to Cleave twice Rend, if not critical, cleave one more time and rend...repeat till you see critical rend. for me normal rend does 40k+ damage per tick, while a critical rend does 190+-200k per tick. I Cleave once before refreshing rend is to let Rend tick once for checking if its a critical rend, and get some HP.
Ground Stomp(Wrenching) - Stuns are OP right now. Blizzard has removed the stun penalty against elites. With the wrenching rune, you suck all the enemies into one small area for Rend and cleave to work together. The stun is extremely useful against elites now.
Battle Rage(Marauder) - We're already using a 2hander, might as well boost up the damage.
Wrath of the berserker(Insanity 100% DMG) - Same reasoning as marauder battle rage. 2handers is about the big numbers, 100% dmg on my critical rend is like 600k dmg ticks.
Now you have 1 free skill slot, go for either Earthquake(the remove fury cost n cooldown) or Warcry(impunity). I normally take Earthquake because i have base 600resist. I do not need the extra resist to survive in MP5. Warcry is for when you do not have enough resist and needs it.
PASSIVES:- Weapon Mastery(10% crit from Skorn axe) - Needs no explaination Ruthless - needs no explaination Bloodlust/Superstition/Boon of Bul kathos - Bloodlust for the 3% life leech if you lack life steal...in my case i do not require it as with my belt and rend i do not need the sustain. -Superstition is just great for reducing 20% from magical dmg. Magical dmg is usually what kills in higher MP, not physical. -Boon is great if your taking the remove fury & reduce cooldown earthquake. With that passive, your earthquake can basically be used with every other pack increasing your farm rate. ONLY USE THIS PASSIVE IF YOUR TAKING BOTH EARTHQUAKE & WRATH OF THE BERSERKER.
Hopes that help. Basically my build is about synergy of Wrenching Ground stomp, rend and cleave...with Berserker as my i-win button against annoying affixes elites. Its still quite flexible depending on your gear as i listed above, with 1 free skill slot & 1 free passive for you to play with.
EDIT:- Adds how this build work.
Trash:- Run into middle of the trash and ground stomp. Sucks everything tightly nxt to you for easy Rend. Cleave and watch as everything explode due to Rupture.
Elites:- If im using the Earthquake, i would gather them next to me, drop earthquake and stun immediately. This will guarantee your earthquake is doing damage. NOTE:- Ground stomp does not suck elites in like trash. It will only stun them in place. If its a running monster, just ensure you have Rend(preferably critical rend) on the runners. Stun them as and when it comes off CD. For really annoying packs, feel free to go for THE BOMB. Wrath -> EQ -> Stomp -> Rend. In groups get one of your buddies to help stun to ensure the elites stay in the EQ. Watch faces melt.
Sometimes elites just do a lot of damage (Firechain/molten) comes to mind. Your HP is dipping, my recommendation is to GET THAT CRITICAL REND OFF. With the critical rend, lifesteal & rune itself, nothing should be able to kill you. For your info, i facetank ubers in MP8 just by ensuring my rend is critical. Feel free to run like a coward till you get your critical rend and watch your HP fill up instantly.
I hope this helps you.
