You have 5 damage dealing abilities, that's way too many you don't have the mana nor the situations to make use out of them all. If you want like an all around build aim for 1 single target, 1 aoe and maybe for 1 dot/other damage spell.

If you have more gear I find gargantuan more useful and see him die less often as he will receive more hits (your targets die faster). Act II Hell at the momemt and just melting through everything.

What stats you have on your weapon? What do all those other docs in here think about %-life per damage dealt? I find this quite usefull in hell (lot of damage there - cannot reg with spirit walk / Blood ritual alone).

Decent in hell, bad in inferno. Everything 1 shots you.

I think all you want is attack speed and dmg, maybe crit damage if you have enough on other pieces if you are dpsing.

Ive just hit level 60, starting inferno, and currently have 50k life and 10k damage unbuffed. Been running a vision quest zombie bears build, because it just smashes everything, but i dont really enjoy it, far too boring and i'd like to be able to use defensive cooldowns when i need them, not just at the start of a fight.

Been reading around a bit, and found this well written build which i will give a try tomorrow, its vastly different from what i've been playing but i'm keen to give it a try because VQ bear spamming gets very old.

Build is set around playing with my friend who is usually a DH though sometimes a Monk.

For boss fights I change harvest to fetish army if they don't have mobs, and change firebomb to poison dart, or spiders if I need to be moving a lot.

Damage before harvest is 1.1k, vitality is 5k, and my resistance is about 25% for my level, with perfect gems in a few items for xp gain and + intelligence. Usually, when I see elites/champions if they are dangerous I'll try to bring them either to choke point and snare as my friend DPS's with DH and my awesomo 3000 holds them in place. He is now starting to die if there is a lot of poison, but I still find him useful even if we have a tank, mostly because I cannot snare/hit anything any faster.

Is a two hander or 1 hander with shield/damage boost better? Hardcore views?

im a lv60 wd, just finished inferno. as far as witch doctor specs go i chose to go with something like http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#acUdQZ!bWV!aaZYba for the most part. you'll find that you need to give up on the nephalem buff in act 2 onwards until you overfarm the content. for my group we had to change skills depending on the elite packs we faced or bosses as well for that matter. for me i run with about 30k+ life 30kish dmg. i used to run with a vision quest build but in the end i decided that having cc or slow was too important in the later stages of inferno.

I honestly wish some of the runes and passives would be reworked. Spirit Vessel is pretty much required in inferno leaving you with only 2 choices *note: you could run without it but my impression of you is that you hate life.

Basically since pets are worthless past hell (and arguably in hell, with dogs being worthless the entire game). A lot of the passives have no point and in fact are needed to just make builds work, you don't have that much room for changing them to your personal preference and not breaking the build.

I think the main culprit is mana regen / mana cost tbh. Its awful without spiritual attunement or vision quest seriously limiting the choices you have for the builds that do work.

Hmm as far as I can tell, grasp of the dead with either unbreakable grasp or desperate grasp rune is absolutely essential. It splits up mobs (especially ranged ones) allowing you to deal with a few at a time, and also enough time for mana regen.

Zombie dogs suck so bad, as far as I can tell.

Also, poison darts with snake to the face rune is ridiculously good against bosses. NM Diablo spent at least half the time getting stunned. If you have 2-3 WDs, I bet any boss or unique will get absolutely crushed until the enrage timer kicks in...

This build is beautiful. I am successfully farming Act I - INFERNO with it although it took me some time to get used to it. After successfully landing a Soul harvest I simply one shot any pack of trash mobs with Acid Cloud (note that I have a 900 dps 2h weapon).

I made a few small changes to the initial build posted here. I am using the 3 poison darts instead of the flamind dart simply because it has higher dps (or at lest this is what the tips say: 3x60% > 160%). I am using the mana rune on Soul harvest instead of the healing one.

Secret of this build is to use the Spirit walk offensively not defensively and to keep your 4 CDs active at any time. Against some pack of champion mobs (those with teleport or vortex) you have to use Spirit walk/Soul harvest reactively after they teleport.

Why would you have rush of essence in that build where the only ability you get mana back is spirit walk and harvest, which are not costly in mana. If you switch our Gargantuan with haunt or spirit barrage, if would be a very efficient build.

I am having a hard time deciding what spell to use as my AOE spell. I try different stuff, but i always return to rain of toads. I have seen people using Dire bats, locust swarm, and Acid rain, but at least with those bats and acid rain i go OOM so fast that using them in a prolonged fight is pretty hard. I just got bears so maybe i give them a try, but they seem to have the same mana problem as bats and AR.

If you are with a party, I suggest Spirit Barrage with Phantasm for your left-click.

Kite when you must survive.

Have at least 4 spells on cooldown.
[ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] = 15 second cooldown, save mana when there is 4 seconds left on the cooldown. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ]
(repeat)
[ 4 ] = 60 second cooldown, Vision Quest substitute with right-click.
[ right - click ] = 120 second cooldown, Vision Quest primary.

Fun Fact: 36 Zombie Charger non-stop is the most I have ever done.

Acid rain has a larger AoE than rain of toads, and the acid pool is really good at dealing dps when there's either another hero or a gargantuan in front to tank. Dire bats deal AoE in a straight-ish line, more effective when you're kiting enemies as opposed to having something tank while you dish out the damage. Locust swarm is really short range, I don't like it. It's really up to you to pick which one suits your fighting style.

Can't solo the butcher. His aoe cone thingy onehits me. How much hp do you need?

I currently have ~15k hp and 25k dmg.

I really start disliking Witch Doctor. He needs to get close to do better damage than autoattack and for Soul Harvest. His survivability is the worst of the ranged people (Wizard can just tank everything, and Demon Hunter is invulnerable for 4x3 seconds); and both other classes don't need to get close. WD animations are long, so kiting gets less efficient. Using Zombie Bears (which admittedly do insane dps) is nearly always an all-in situation. Because once you start casting you are a) very close and b) stuck in the animation. Pets are useless.

Just don't know what to do anymore.

Try getting some health. I'm close to 40k on my Witchdoctor combined with the 2020 masteries makes surviving quite a bit easier (although I trade all this for about 10k dps). I'm not sure I'll be able to beat the enrage timer, but it's fairly easy to switch out some gear to more int. Using a faster weapon can mitigate some of the casting animation stuff as well.

Locust Swarm is also an AoE (it spreads quite nicely even without the spread rune) DoT spell that you can cast when you go in for your soul harvest. It's quite integral to my run around in circles while the mobs die to DoTs strategy (combined with Haunt).

15k hp is too low, you need 25k at least not to get one shotted, you can also use Horrify with +100% armor before he shoots to decrease his dmg by 25% or so. You don't need more than 20k dmg for him.
