My Wizard is still pretty bad but I really like RoF Sleet Storm, Blizzard and Frost Hydra Cold spec. I feel like Frozen Orb deals less damage, but maybe Sleet Storm isn't doable on Torment later on because you can't kite very well with it.

Let me understand how the swarm of +% damage work together. Specially which are added rather than multiplied.

- elemental damage on items
- skill damage on items
- damage increase from passives, familiar, or temporary debuffs on hits.

I am running with a lot of different +% damage passives atm, and I am trying to understand if each one actually gives the +10% damage it says, or if they get less effective.

I assume the three points above are multiplied, but I am not sure if all the passives and debuffs wok on the same +% damage, or if they have one each. thanks.

tldr: most damage buffs interact additively, which means that adding another 10% buff usually provides far less than a 10% increase in your damage.

I think you've changed some stuff up since you posted, but a couple suggestions:

Your boots would pair well with Unwavering Will. I'd put that in instead of Evoc, you really only have one skill with a cooldown.

To finish the "standing still" thought, use RoF Sleet Storm instead of blizzard.

Low hanging fruit would be a better hat with APOC. It really helps for any AP spammers. Getting one with Intel, APOC, and Crit Chance--should easy enough to at least get a drop with two and then just roll the third. The bonus would be with Vit/Socket and +max AP.

Made a wizard last weekend after hearing how good the class is. Any advice for skills? Or items I should farm? I basically just glanced over some top wizards at diabloprogress, but I don't really know much about the class or RoS.

Right now doing random T1 rifts/bounties, and trying to get a shattered core for devastator weapon (more +fire dmg)

i think the go-to fire build requires a mirror-ball (offhand) with two magic missiles. you will also need magefist (gloves). your amulet, which is very good, has the wrong element so needs replacing. shoulders should have armor instead of life regen. helm should have socket instead of loh. cindercoat needs three sockets, i would dump the AR.

for build, i dont know the current iteration, but basically magic missiles with conflagration and meteors.

SoJ would be a pretty huge upgrade if you get one with decent stats, but theres other things I might target first via gambling since rings have quite a high shard cost.

I'd aim to swap your Aughild 2piece onto bracers replacing the sanguinary to make room for an Andariels with % fire damage helm. Alternatively, you can keep the Aughild's spike and go for Strongarm bracers, which are amazing with Black hole.

An amulet with % fire damage would help a lot, even though you'd be giving up tal rasha 2/3 piece (unless you are lucky enough to get an Allegiance with %fire). If you do get some other legendary amulet though, it does free up your belt slot for a Witching Hour, Harrington, or even just a Fleeting Strap/Hellcat Waistguard.

I'm personally partial to Harrington, as it allows you to keep all the defensive affixes but still get a major offensive boost from the item (you have to give up all defense for a WH and Hellcat, and only get 1 defensive affix for Fleeting).

i don't know how much dmg the tal set meteors do, but the rest of the bonus don't really work well with a conflagrate build.

+skill dmg is additive with bonus from magic weapon etc. so it's not better than 500 int from gem slots on pants.

I am most surprised by almost all passives and skill buffs add with +skill damage on items. So my +30% disintegrate isn't at all worth 30% as I am using familiar, magic weapon, unwavering will and elemental exposure! :o So +arcane (elementals go by themselves) is actually worth more than +disintegrate, even for disintegrate.

The big exception is audacity I guess, that goes by itself. It's like a hidden buff to short range wizards.

btw isnt the radius for the chaos nexus small beams exactly 15 yards? hm =)

I'm pretty well brand new to the game and just running disintegrate (because it feels good to be a voidray), not 70 yet but I'd like to know what sorts of stuff I should eventually start looking for to continue spamming that. And I guess general advice would be great too.

usual gear + fit in resource cost reduction wherever possible without losing too much.
also, try to get at least some apoc on your gear, it helps a lot once you have good gear with 55+ cc.
oh, and try to get a disintegrate bonus on your boots. on the helmet, its also a nice to have stat, but socket, cc and int have priority. id then rather have 500 armor or 700 vit on the helm than 15% bonus to disint (which will stack additively with most other buffs and thus is far less valuable than it might seem..)

Yes, the fire damage will apply for any attacks, even cold damage ones.

whats end game gear for wizard? anyone have a link to a profile that is well developed?

vyr's seems decent if you are doing an arcane build.
tal rasha's final bonus seems silly since most people are focusing on one element, not all elements.

General consensus is RRoG, Aughild's Shoulder + Bracers, 2-3 piece Vyr's, Witching Hour, and Andy helm. I think the rest of the slots depend on your build. Tal Ammy, Armor, and Source is pretty good if you are willing to give up mirror ball.

My ideal setup would be:
RRoG
SoJ
Aughild Shoulder
Aughild Bracers
Vyr Pants
Vyr Gloves
Vyr Boots
Witching Hour
Andy Helm
Tal Armor
Tal Ammy
Tal Source
Weapon of your choice depending on the build.

You get a large amount of elite dmg / mitigation plus 2 full set bonus, which is pretty sick.
