hello together,
i was thinking about my current archon build. i can farm very easy in groups on mp8 (cm also mp10) but if i play solo, i just die to elite packs. they drop hp pretty fast, but if they connect to me i just die. so my question is, how much defensive stats do i need to play mp8 solo? for exaple i also have a mempo, +180 resi, + 5k life, -10k dps i could change my passives (glass canon / blur ...)
i play pretty much 100% in archon and i have ww just cause of my apoc. if it happens that i dont have archon rdy after it runs out i only need a few seconds to reset the cd.
so my question is, to which extend should i sacrifice my dps for def stats, or should i drop in mp? (and which dps is really neeed for mp5/mp8.. as archon wizard?) my buffed dps is 319k.

Get life steal on your weapon.
I happened to leave my wiz in archon gear, so have a look at mine: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/SlkCascade-2516/hero/22556342 The LS was what allowed me to, playing solo, go from struggling and frequently dying in MP3 to comfortably face-tank almost anything MP5.

sadly i am not rich enough (~7M) to just buy a new weapon  so you think the 1,5% Lifeleech on magic weapon + LoH is not enough? If i have enough resi / life i maybe should just save gold for a new weapon.
what dps (buffed) is required to play mp8 (solo/grp) as archon wizard in your opinion?

No, with only blood magic you will have to kite a lot at MP4-5 and higher, at least in solo. I haven't played much groups with archon tbh. Even if you play group and have other people tank for you, don't you die instantly against reflect damage? And you must still have problems vs arcane sentries etc? 2.5% life leech or more (plus blood magic if you want) will allow you to just sit through all of that and dps all you want, and will increase your actual damage output by a lot (even if you have to drop your sheet dps to get the LS).
I don't think attack speed and LoH is the way to go with archon, as you can get dps much cheaper if you go for cc, cd and +damage instead. I haven't played archon with LoH myself though, so maybe it works to some extent, not sure. But I was under the impression that archon doesn't tick that fast, and not even sure if it ticks faster by ias actually.
I don't play archon above MP5 (have a cm/ww set for higher mp), and I think we have about the same unbuffed dps (think I have somewhere like 210-220k or so) so I can't really help you. imo, archon on high MPs doesn't make much sense, but to each his own.
Anyway, I would suggest a LS weapon as next buy (even if you have to go down a little in dps), then you can much easier up your dps by dropping LoH and ias for more cc, cd and +dam. Or get cm/ww gear.

In my experience, loh is trash for an archon wiz. Either get a good ls weapon or a cheap one to swap in against rd elites.

thank you very much for your answers. you helped me a lot. i will definitely look for a LS weapon as a next item to farm ~mp5 with archon. i also didnt knew that archon is not that good at higher mp. i have an cmww gear too, which i should use then if i play mp8. (no problem there with cmww)

Well, if you feel that you contribute to the group with archon at high, by all means, go for it. I would imagine that your archon is down a lot of the time, and you having to hold back due to reflect and/or arcane sentries, kiting etc. While a cm/ww wiz will contribute by freezing and holding the mobs in place for others to dps, as well as dishing out a lot of dps after a second or two of windup.
But if you play with strong group, having enough dps (and a good region) to kill mobs fast enough to sustain your archon, and maybe another cm/ww to freeze so you don't have to kite as much, then I could see you dealing a lot of dps with archon also at higher MPs. I frequently run into archon wizs when I play MP10 pubs, although I am not sure how much they actually contribute. More than one have been bragging about his high sheet-dps though (compared to none of the more frequent cm/ww wizards).

I've just tried an Act 1 run through Festering and Fields with SNS and got my key. It was generally surprisingly doable.
My primary deaths came from the simple Wood Wraiths and their poison flowers. Damn they hurt and almost insta kills me! Other than that I die mainly due to my own errors like lack of proper positioning and attention.
I know that switching to Jousting Mail should give a lot more survivability but then I'll have to get a 9% IAS ring first.
But what I really feel like I'm lacking is say 50k DPS or so to be much faster and more efficient in my runs if I want to do MP10. Otherwise it just takes too long..
So any tips about how I'll keep most of my stats while boosting DPS quite a bit?

Well, it is tempting to tell you to get those jousting mail pants, a ring with ias and LoH, and then get a proper trifecta ammy. But damn, you got nice defensive stats on that ammy and the non-ias ring! Not sure the extra def from jousting mail will make up for the lost def if the jewelery.
What you can do easily though, is to up your int stats a bit. I think you can get well above 250 int on iceclimbers for example, if you drop the pickup radius (who cares anyways?). Otherwise look around on all your slots, and see if you can get similar things but with higher int.
Otherwise I think you are pretty low on cd, and with the high cc of this build, you will jump in dos by adding cd. Maybe trifecta gloves? Crafting gloves my be worth it (I may be spoilt by the ones I got though. ).
I don't think you need 3 slots of apoc when you dont run meteor. 18 of the wand and helm should do, and you can go up in damage quite a lot on the source. (or get vit, and get more dps from jewelery by dropping vit). Try running with a source without apoc, and see how it feels energy-wise.
I also struggle with the silly trees and their poison. I feel that it works better by kiting them slowly (it takes some time for the flowers to pop, so "kite" out fo them before that), or teleport over to the far side of teh tree, where there are no flowers.
oh, and another choice, as you have the source with apoc, would be a mempo with cc. The ias and no loh fits with changing pants as well (as jousting has loh, but no ias). This switch (jousting + mempo) may actually be the best option.

Wizard 2.0 = do w/e build you want YOLO style, a lot of build works nicely given that you understand the synergy between the different damage types and passives. This is what I am currently using: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#aPXYOS!ZWT.!ZbaccY My gear: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/digmouse-1608/hero/35971507 You don't need any specific gear to make this work since this build solely relies on Arcane Dynamo, Cold Blooded and Frost Nova-Bone Chill to deal massive ice meteor damage, a little ApoC and high crit helps but not entirely necessary, if you can find one or two pieces of gear that increases frost damage like my bracer it's even better.

Doesn't Life On Hit work anymore??
My old CM/WW wiz had 1.200 LOH and even if I was close to dying a few twisters and spells later and I'd be back up at full HP.
Thought it's per hit and I seem to be hitting a lot of stuff real fast with my current electro build. So naturally I'd assume my HP would be jumping a lot more than it is.
Am I missing something after 2.0.1??

I am having similar problems with APOC... :/ Running my cm/ww gear with 20 apoc and living lightning (WW didn't seem like such a great idea without permafreeze, how does that work for you?), but really don't see my AP jump up. So now I am using these silly +5 AP for signature spells etc. Am I doing something wrong? Has something changed?

I've been using a few different builds as of late because monk sadly isn't that good without godly gear.

Even though I can do it quite quickly with ~300k sheet DPS, haven't checked to see if it's faster than running mira. TP is there both for escaping bad situations and for skipping elites because dealing with a 70m HP mobs just isn't worthwhile.

Hitting mira for upwards of 20M instant is pretty fun, unless you're carrying the whole group, I think this is probaby better than 22% bonus archon damage.
Frozen orb is a pretty good skill.

I believe you want the skill closer to 1 for guarentee procs due to trigger rate.

just use electrocute - lightning blast in conjunction with paralysis and prodigy; frozen orb, familiar - icicle and have to loh. the rest is up to your dps. a nice trick is also to use the last rune on mirror images that makes them cast spells for damage. pair this with the stun bubble and frozen orb and you have a deadly skill combination.
