Well, as I don't have an uber toon, it happens every now and then that I lose archon early on due to a long distance between mob groups, or maybe groups with few guys. I also die every now and then (not least reflect damage...). At that point I use wicked wind (with diamond skin) and cm to reset the timer faster. I think most archon builds have similar solutions. I have seen living lightning as well. So cm is both for the archon abilities, and to reset archon faster in case you die or don't find mobs.

well i really have trouble believing the top heroscore wizards on diabloprogress are dying at a difficulty level they are farming at but maybe im wrong lol

depends on how much +xp stuff you try to carry at the same time

and its not only about them dying but also killing stuff with +xp gear. although for archon at some point you don't need cm anymore because you have it up when you need it

guys, just look at your skills... i dont know why it seems so unclear

- archon cd is two minutes
- armor spells last two minutes
- galvanizing ward adds another two minutes
- evocation is -15% CD, making the archon cooldown 102 seconds

therefore, we can draw these conclusions:
- even without CM, galvanizing ward, or evocation, archon cooldown will always be up (or a couple seconds from up) when you need to refresh your armor spell
- the benefit of CM is that if you manage to get in a weird situation and lose archon, you can easily refresh it fairly quickly instead of derping around for 30+ seconds. while archon does reduce its own cooldown, it's not a significant amount, probably comparable to using evocation
- the benefit of evocation is that you can reset your armor/archon a bit before your armor is done
- the benefit of galvanizing ward is primarily convenience, as there may be times where two minutes have passed since you turned on archon but you're not at a part of the run where you can easily build up a ton of time (rare but also a bit of a quality of life thing)

For the very top players, I guess it is about getting in as many teleports as possible, and then cm helps a bit, specially if you have a high attack speed. Maybe you can go from 77MXP/h to 80MXP/h or something... Maybe it is also a matter of not having any other passives that they really need... If you already have the dps and ehp you need, what other passive would you take?

Also, no matter how high you rank, no one is immune to a piece with few monsters just when you refreshed your archon. Maybe they know exacty where they can and cannot refresh though, what do I know?

yeah i mean i know when to refresh so they definitely do

i really just don't get it, it seems like it'd be better to take blur or evocation than cm

maybe they are playing in groups at high mp.. i dunno lol its weird
cuz i do see a lot of them with pinpoint barrier

its been made known to blizz in tuhe bug report, they might look into it someday, probably when they adress the way archon gains timespan through kills which they said they would so its more multiplayter friendly.

btw here is what ive been hoarding for when pvp hits, the build itself might change but i like the idea of the gear. 21% reduced damage from elites and 40% increased damage to elites.

Hey I picked up my Oculus with the same thinking in mind. It turns out, however, that it's only the duration that is increased -- just like it says -- and not the damage. I tried it out now on Asmodean, fact of the matter is that the damage is actually the same per second and that hence if you have 100000k over 6 seconds you'll do about 260000k damage. If you have 4 seconds higher blizzard damage on your oculus you actually do 260000+4/6*260000 or something similar. While the text sais what you say it's as always with "Blizzard" wrong thankfully enough

Really???? Ok that's amazing, thanks so much for sharing the test. I was just judging off of regular elites and mobs in MP0 so i guess it was deceiving, but that's really good to know that it actually extends the damage and not just the duration like it says.

kiwi, with setup i posted im at 90.5 damage reduction using pa, getting 1400 more armour and 80 more ar is not gona push the damage reduction that much higher at a big loss of dps, already hitting diminishing returns at those mitigation levels (5.3k armour 920 ar). where as elite damage reduction will give about the same defense and not loose dps.

the ehp of the setup i posted is 480k or so with pa and 605K vs elites (players), if i switched the wailing host for a litany that 7% more damage reduction is 100k more ehp, so that is 705k ehp. i dont think a shield would put me much ahead of that and dps hit would be massive.

i think im sticking with chants set. but i will go to d3up and check my stats switching th source for a shield in case im wrong, but i dont think im gona like the trade off.

edit: did some numbers using a 1400 armour 80 ar 200 int 10cc shield, jumped my damage reduction to 92.7 using pa with a 45k dps hit. so that would be 630k ehp and 730k ehp vs elites. So its not worth it imho, in my case at least. i could be at a very similar ehp values with a minimal dps loss just switching from wailing host to litany. i could also use the litany with the shield which would make a 100k ehp difference. so as seen the shield is a 130k ehp boost in exchange for 45k dps where as 7% elite damage reduction is a 100k ehp gain with no dps reduction.... i think i know what im choosing, but it really is balancing ur toon for your specific needs.

edit 2: shit just remembered that you can roll elite damage reduction on shields, so yeah a shield might be a good tradeoff if you add it in. So i guess my previous rant is sort of useless, it will just be a matter if i need the 130k ehp boost more than the 45k dps or if those mitigation levels are enough and its better to push dps from there on, as u still gotta kill the other guy too.

yeah you definitely want a weapon with higher dps on it
for 500k you can up your dps a lotttt

and then you should probably start playing archon

except shields are hard as fuck to get your hands on, i've been looking for a solid one a while now. kiwi is taking all of them off the market so we cant compete

looking for a badboy with 250+ int, +armor, 65+ res all, 8+ CC, and +life regen. Dont care about the block % that much...
