You'll also get SC achievements when completing them in HC. Err.... if it's consistent with Diablo 2 (which is probably closer than "Blizzard games") then that won't be the case. For example, completing the most important gear/ stat point quests in D2 on the harder difficulties did absolutely nothing to the normal mode ones. You still had to beat the Den of Evil, complete the Larzuk quest, Izual, Charsi imbue, etc. in every difficulty. Heck, you didn't even get Cain to travel through the difficulties with you. Every difficulty was completely independent of one another. That may not be the same in D3, but that's what you had to do in D2.
Achievements =/= quests. Achievements weren't implemented in Diablo 2. You get achievement credit in SC2 for all difficulties below the one you're playing.
The reason is quite simple: quests provide tangible in-game rewards (exp/gold/items/stats), whereas achievements are simply account-linked superfluous bragging rights.

Yeah, you can't judge this based on D2 because there were never achievements there. I assume the achievements are a bnet 2.0 thing, so they'll probably behave like SC2 achievements. It's just going to be harder to test whether that's the case because you can't jump into the higher difficulties to get the achievement without progressing through normal, so you'll probably have to consciously NOT complete some difficulty-reliant achievement to test this out.

A lot of people (myself included) lost achievements thanks to the butter-smooth release, so I don't have credit for killing SK among other things. Assuming Blizzard didn't fix this it will be pretty easy to test.
There are also a lot of missable events too, like Last Stand of the Ancients.

Hey guys, I know Starcraft II had a Facebook Friend Finder that helped me get onboard with my friends quickly. I don't know how to access this feature in D3 or if it even exists. Anyone know what the deal with this is? I've asked this like 3 times now and still haven't gotten a response.
Thanks for the help guys.

It's the same RealID friends list - so all your friends you added in SC2 via Facebook are already on your D3 friends list.

So I finally decided to buy D3 since all my friends have it, but I've never played D1/D2 and never followed the scene at all. The only similar game I've played was a little bit of Magicka but that's it.
Any basic tips that I should know? :D
edit: A friend mentioned that I should 'main' on the US server because that's where the AH is most popular even though I'm in the UK. Is this true and worth it?

Is this true and worth it? I don't think there will be a significant difference for the AH. Also, I think you'll prefer the lower ping of the EU server. The main factor might just be playing where your friends are playing, so if there's all on Americas you might want to do that too.

Is there a way to toggle a Diablo 2 style map? (the one where its semi transparent and follows your character... hopefully that is descriptive enough)

I dunno if it's been mentioned yet, but just so you all know if you salvage an item with a gem socketed in it, you get the gem back at no cost. You don't need to remove the gem at the jeweler to salvage things.

For barbarian... 1-handed weapon + shield, two 1-handed weapons, or one 2-handed weapon?

Then it depends on your build. Dual wield gives more fury but does less damage on your fury spenders. Shield gives survivability if you need it.

How do you use the gem/blacksmith pages?

You use them when you upgrade your BG/jewelry level, they are also needed when crafting certain gear.

I haven't played the game yet, but I have played D2 before. Just wondering how much customization a character in D3 can go through? I heard that D3 doesn't let you assign stat points. That was a big thing in D2, you could assign your stat points and skill points, and really customize your character so that it's very different from an opponent's.
Are items/runes the only thing driving the D3 characters apart from each other? I want to be able to pour in my creativity into creating my character...

Do you guys that play a wizard prefer 2H or 1H + source ?
I did normal mode with 1H but after finding a strong 2H in nightmare I realized that the way AP regens seems to favor slow weapons...
With a 1speed weapon I can channel some spells indefinetly always ending with more AP than I begun with. Spells like Ray of Frost and Arcane Barrage. I ended being able to make builds with no signature spell without trying to stack much +AP regen.
My guess is that maybe 1H can get better if you use passives that make use of signature spell (prodigy and dynamo). But for some reason prodigy seems broken for Electrocute and doesnt seem to always generate AP.
Does someone has thoughts to share on this ?

If in an auction house there's an item for sale with a socketed gem in it, the gem isn't included in the trade right? Because its stats count towards my search results ...

I am pretty sure the socket will be filled.
