Drag the spells out and you will get the primary attack (which is your weapon attack).

Is anyone else really miffed about the party size being reduced from 8 to 4. It makes playing with all of your friends a lot less fun, when you have to split off into 2 groups?
|
Splitting into two groups doesn't make it less fun, it actually makes it more fun when people have actual roles and things are actually progressing at a fast pace. If you're a leecher or slowpoke than I guess it would be less fun since you won't be getting carried anymore.
Having a party size of eight would be stupid. It would be an absolute clusterfuck on the screen, the majority of the people are going to lag / crash and end up being useless. Mobs scale up in dmg / health so engagements would be impossible or take a very long time if someone has to go afk or is in town looking at stuff.

Wizard Question
is an item that has "+2-4 arcane damage" effect a arcane spell?
or it just add additional 2-4 damage to wand atk

Well when you attack with wand, it adds the damage (like with any weapon). But also, spell damage is based on weapons so it is yes and no.

Just completed the beta with a wiz and i got a bunch of questions to ask here. Hopefully you guys can help me out
Is there a way to see how much damage my spells actually do? Also I notice that your weapon dps increase the damage of your spells? And if thats true, whats the point in using wands whens swords/axes are usually better. I've picked up a few eagle orbs as well and I find their stats and properties very poor. I find using a shield far more superior since they actually provide a large amount of armor and block.
Overall the game was pretty nice and fun. Crafting system is a good idea IMO so now I can actually do something with my gold.

Turn on advanced tooltips.
At the early game, it doesn't really matter what you use. As the game progresses, the staves / wands will be better suited for you due to its stats.

Keep in mind that weapon speed also influences casting time, as with weapon damage influences spell damage. Also, we are not able to get a good assortment of items, especially class specific items. They will be more important later on for class specific attributes (and I think +skills are supposed to be in the game, or at least that is what I heard).
I do not know how to calculate the damage output beyond that of taking your dps and taking the skill tool-tip, than calculating it.

Turn on advanced tooltips to see how much damage the skills do. The raw DPS your spells do assumes you are standing still and spamming the skill as fast as you can. Like Nilrem mentioned casting rate is important as well, so you get to choose if you want big bursts of damage with something like two handed weapons or one handed weapons with a constant barrage of lower damage spells. Arcange power will be an issue as well, with skill spammage resulting in a depleted pool pretty quickly.
Also mentioned by Nilrem there will be +skills items, or rather +%damage to skill X items (from what I've seen) and I can imagine there will be a greater chance for Wands having stuff to Wizard skills.
The amount of affixes you have in the beta is very small, so it's too early to say that shields are straight up better than orbs.
EDIT: I will take this chance and bump my question from some time ago, does anyone know if the elemental type from a +X elemental damage stat on a weapon carries over? I know the damage carries over, but I don't know about the elemental type. No one else seems to know either :S

Does anyone know what percentage of Act I is contained in the beta?

Q: in D3 beta, do hardcore skeleton kings runs have more chance for rares drop? or equal to normal difficulity

Equal. Hardcore is a copy of normal, except when you die the character is dead forever.

Ha! Took me a while to find that. I dont see why they dont have that on automatically. Seems so pointless to have it off.

Anyone else a bit worried about the "% based on attack dmg" on spells for the casters?
Why would I want to use a wand+off-hand item (lower base attack damage), if a sword (higher base attack damage) or whatever gives my spells more damage?
In the beta I found myself running around with whatever highest pure attack damage weapon I found. Same on my Monk really. Attack speed is also relevant (for Wizard at least). Faster attack speed = faster cast rate on the primary Wizard spells.
Edit: Saw that this has been discussed earlier. I'm still a bit worried though.

Well it worked very well in diablo and diablo 2. What about when you have five friends that have a lan party planned the weekend of release. There is one person who is the odd man out. Who is blizzard to decide for me and my friends what is fun or not? If we want to and my computer can handle why disallow 8 man groups.

People had the same worries when WoW items were simplified to general stats that applied to a variety of classes and specs instead of the more specialized distribution the game had earlier; it worked out very well and made itemization much more easier, accessible and fun. Spell damage based on weapon quality might seem a bit off initially but in the end you'll probably wear class-specific items anyway or customize your character's performance with gems and attribute stacking.

Edit: Saw that this has been discussed earlier. I'm still a bit worried though. Not worried at all. Class specific items generate "class only" stats which aim specifically as prime stats for that class. Back when Blizzard revealed stats on items there were wizard only stats that literally doubled the damage on high end wands. Although the items are not set for sure, it showed Blizzard's intentions with dealing with exactly what you are concerned with. Orbs also have the ability to add damage whereas shields do not have that ability. If you want more armor then sure, go for a shield, but if you want more damage then orbs have more utility there. And above all else wands and orbs can spawn +wizard skills which is the only way to increase skill levels. Early on this kind of stuff doesn't matter because you are going to be leveling and swapping out items so fast but in the later game it will balance out.

It didn't work at all in Diablo II, eight player parties were so uncommon in the game. The game wasn't even balanced for eight.
Allowing for eight players in Diablo III is going to result in eight player games being too easy or overtuned. Just look at WoW as an example, raids were overtuned and than Blizzard figured out that tuning for a raid of 25 people with common sense is dumb and nerfed them to oblivion so that it could be completed with less than 25 players.
Your argument doesn't work because it applies to every cap. If there was a eight player cap, the nine player group would complain. If there was a ten player cap, the group with eleven would complain. If you can't rotate or divide into groups than that's unfortunate.

Is it possible to look at an item when not picked up? Sometimes my inventory is full, but I maybe want to replace an item in my inventory if the new one is better.
