Indeed, American accent is just fine for me as I am used to it and can understand it. Everything I have trouble understanding (like strong Indian, Chinese or French accents) I would not like to have as a caster. Perfectly reasonable imo. Also its not just the accent which makes it troubling to understand her. Her pronounciation is just not very clear, she sometimes forgets syllabels when speaking fast and so on. Your implication of racism here seems just like a crude attempt to silence critcism.
That said, Kelly will probably act upon this critcism and improve her pronounciation.
You can understand her? Great. You're one of the few.
I don't think so. My English isn't all that great. I just don't have a problem at all with someone who doesn't have an American/British accent casting a game. Take for example the Carmac casts from IEM Kiev. They were great - both Rotterdam and Carmac. But they have both kind of an accent. So what nobody cared that time. Now it's this huge deal for some people in here BEFORE gsl march even started.
You seriously can understand this?
LOL thats funny. i didnt understand anything.
at first i didnt really care at all about this announcement but all this drama sucked me in. good luck to her though i hope she does well (although im afraid she'll struggle)
"However, due to many constraints that we were faced with including but not limited to time, geographical location, schedule conflicts and personal issues of other applicants, we could not help but choose an applicant who satisfied all the conditions and also had the talent for casting.
This announcement does not mean that the search for the best commentators/casters for GSL Code A is over. With that being said, we at GOMtv would like to let you know that we will keep on improving to better serve our customers and the community and to contribute to the further development of eSports."
lol look at that.. I honestly think they didn't get many high level commentators to apply for the job. It's a huge deal moving to another country for a job and so on. Most commentators are probably also studying etc.

I feel that most of the community feels this way and now face a dilemma.
I don't want to watch the Code A matches, half because of the obvious reasoning and the other half because I feel I should demonstrate to GOMtv that they DID mess up.
I just contributed to her salary...
Out of EVERYONE willing to cast... WHY.

notice he posted those...well..for no reason other than to just flame. and maybe get his post count up.
...andrewwiggins just stirring shit up, pretty much disagreeing with people who are saying to give Kelly a CHance. With absolutely minimal knowledge and overly inflated sense of entitlement.

Or better yet during an MMA or Boxing fight on Pay-Per-View, something you need to pay for like many people, including myself, do for GSL. This reminded me of a few major universities refunding students tuition if their professors accent was too thick for them to understand, but I doubt GOM would do anything like that.
This.
I'm sick and tired of arguing with people who think that Kelly is a decent caster at all and that we should just get used to it because that's the way it is.
I have to go to ALOT of trouble to understand her at all.
And there's no way she is the best caster in all of SEA. Absolutely not.

On the bright side, this is only for code A and really, how many games do you normally watch on that circuit? Me personally its between 5-10 tops.
Have you seen the line up for this Code A? It is going to be epic.
Well. WAS going to be epic. not so much now... =(
I just can't believe GOM thinks that just because she's a girl, the community will love her/warm up to her and disregard her total lack of ability to cast in understandable english! O_O
Does GOM really think SC2 fans are that one dimensional??

GOM has made their decision, for now at least, you all need to suck it up and stop whining.
Can someone ban this guy please?
Where did you read that people were going to stop watching Code A because of Kelly? Hmm? Where did you read here that anyone here HATES starcraft? Eh?
No I didn't think so.
People said they're going to HATE watching Code A with Kelly. And if possible they will avoid it by watching a restream recast, or finding the original Korean stream or something.
Read the thread before you post.

FINEEE. I'll give her a go! -___-
But GOM better have a mad backup plan for the day after day 1 of Code A games...because if she's exactly like she is in her youtube vids, and nothing's changed...
1. well, i really don't have anything to say to this. lol i really don't know how to phrase all this. Because YOU have a lot of trouble listening to her the first time, you're not even going to give her a chance to improve herself. That's pretty douche-y Second part; It's not a question of wether she's the best caster, but she's the best one willing to put in the commitment to travel to Korea. Also, 'best' is an OPINION. I might think PsyStarcraft is the best caster while others will say day9.
2. Wtf man, if you hate her casting that much when the games roll around put her on mute. No one's going to care. if not go watch the korean stream. Or stream it yourself. As good as Tastosis is, I rather they want to cast it then them doing it halfheartedly. second part; Who are you to think you know why Gom chose KellyMilkies JUST BECAUSE she's a girl? It may have been one of the reason, but it WOULD NOT have been the only reason. If they just wanted a girl to cast, they could've just hired any model/caster in kroea and save no cost. No, they're flying some one in JUST to cast for us.
3. You should follow your own advice here.
4."FINEEEE. I'll give her a go! -___-" --> wat. the. fuck. over inflated sense of importance much? I personally don't care wether you watch her or not. I'm sure no one else here does. "but GOM better have a mad backup plan for the day after day 1 of code A games..." --> Really? you're only going to give the girl one day to improve? Well how would you like it if on the day you're born someone comes in and say "kk, we're going to see if you deserve to live" (bit extreme..but trying to get point across).
What shit is going to hit the fan? Most people here are perfectly happy to give KellyMilkies at least a few weeks, many even a whole season to improve.
Those were just some of the posters i've noticed posting numerous times..
Sorry, had to vent, posters like andrewwiggins just touched a nerve somewhere...
Hm. For someone who writes alot, you don't really address anyone's concerns. You're as much of a flamer as anyone here buddy.
Absolutely nothing of what you said will help Kelly suddenly speak english better.
If I decide to pay for GOM streaming, then I obviously feel entitled to UNDERSTAND what I'm watching. Am I wrong?
And yes. One day is all she deserves. Because if in that first day, she still casts like she did in that DOTA tournament that I just streamed off youtube, then HOW exactly do you figure she'll suddenly improve to perfectly understandable english? Hmmm?
And seriously. What's with the analogy ... someone asking whether i deserve to live or die? Are you serious? Wtf is that about.
Sorry but, posters like you don't really think before you write. People have legitimate concerns about being able to understand and enjoy what's looking to be one of the best Code A match lineups since the beginning of the GSL. And you're telling me.. what.
To be grateful that they didn't hire a model from Korea to be caster?
I don't even understand you at all... O_O
EDIT: Before you call people out for stirring shit up, really think about whether maybe this is actually something important to them. That maybe, just maaaybe, they care about the e-sports scene and e-sports image. That just maybe, they want Starcraft 2 to succeed on an international scale. That just MAYBE ... they're looking out for the game that they've loved since they were kids.

Listen to this. It does not matter how few other people applied for the job. She doesn't speak English and thus does not fulfill the first and most important requirement of all. I simply can't wrap my head around why the hell she was even considered at all instead of discarded immediately. I just can't understand it.
Worse possible choice. I'm not going to watch code A for sure. Need to coinsider if I schould buy season ticket this time, not only because I'll watch only code S and 10$ is not good price anymore. There is a lot good tournament aside of korea anyway.
This is ironically good news since there will be tastosis in code A games. I wouldn't be surprised if Kelly does improve when working with a talented pair like Dan&Nick.
LOL i watched that SMM video. I am singaporean and i do not understand half of what she is saying. I think this speaks volumes... i will miss tastosis. Its so sad that when code A finally has many great players, the caster deproves so much. WHERE IS TORCH!!!!!!!!!! I think the casters should be torch and john :D

Or perhaps you can see how she sounds in a real studio with professionals around her instead of her screaming in a 5 dollar microphone and using lousy recording software. It might be a bit different.

Bad attention.

That first sentence even bothers me because it sounds like a cop-out. With that said, you guys shouldn't have to explain yourselves in a press release. It comes off as if you are looking for sympathy when instead you should stick by your decision and say something like we know that she will grow on the audience and as you said, "she has the willingness to learn," to paraphrase etc.
