One thing people are forgetting is that players cant vote down maps this GSL so it makes it more likely you will get rush allins on maps that would normally be voted down by a race for that very reason.
Also I dont remember any surge of sympathy for the "better players" when Rain beat Genius and Squirtle doing the exact same thing. But of course they are protoss and are "bad".

LOL. Right. It's the only reason he won. Even Artosis and Tasteless were quick to point out that he only won the games he cheesed or did an all-in. What a joke. This semi-finals game will be less than interesting to say the least. What a shame, was looking forward to see more high quality games but I guess there's always Jinro to look to.

Q. Your simcity defense was like an art in the fourth match. A. I used to do a play like this a lot during the beta. I alone used to do double Nexus, so I am used to being attacked. So, such simcity would happen naturally. This match made me remember the days of the beta.
What a badass - attacking Hongun only succeeds in making him feel nostalgic .

He's not Genius, but HongUnPrime is gonna have to step his game up represent Brotoss!

Building time for 2 barracks is min 100 seconds, building time for DT is min 300 seconds. How it ends is before the dark shrine even begins construction.

Clutch win, HongUn. Thank you for helping with my liquibet.
The Rain/Nestea match is still mindboggling to me though.

I can't believe no one commented yet on how Rain said that he did so much cheese because he had no time to practice. I would have done the exact same thing. He even says that he's going to do more macro in the semis, and that's not something you can lie about and get away with lol.

The better player overall lost that series, but upsets happen in any competition. Nestea made a huge blunder in game 5 by not sending his drones and zerglings earlier to kill the second bunker and that cost him the game. As much as I can shake my head at Rain doing these all ins I think anyone of us would do them if we thought it was our best chance at winning 87k. If you say otherwise youre probably lying or loaded rich lol

Hongun ftw, he's so good and entertaining to watch plus he's not an idiot like genius. MC is really awesome too though. I like the protoss representation this far into gsl.

Lol @ TSL_Rains answers. Haha wow the hypocrisy in his answers makes me laugh + rage at the same time. He says terran cheese is map Dependant and then all ins on shakuras, which has the longest rush distance in the game (cross spawns). lol. Terran needs a Nerf to its all in's, mules and 100% salvage on bunkers, because they have almost no penalty for all ining, bunkers get salvaged and mules allow terrans not to auto loose in all ins.

I'm so glad I didn't wake up early to see these series. Imagine if every starleague series was 60% cheese and all-ins. (Yes, JD 4-pooled twice in the last finals, I said every series, not just the finals)
Even though I despised Rain's cowardly (he even basically admitted he didn't practice, so resorted to what would give him an easy win because of map reasons) play, Fruitdealer broke my heart even more. FD reminded me of Rain during his matches...except zerg doesn't have super hardcore 1-basing with no consequences. Just a disappointing day in general.

Whether you want to call aggressive early bio vs Z cheese or not doesn't matter, the fact is it too frequently results in SHORT BORING games. Imagine watching 10 boxing matches where almost all of them are decided in the first punch, you won't even have enough time to get drunk. It's fine if some end that way but most people have limited tolerance for such short games.
Also, 120 seconds to build a carrier?! INCONCEIVABLE!!

I enjoyed the games anyway. Thanks for the interviews!
Personally I think Tastosis were off their game and that added to some of the "perceived" boredom. There really was a lot of exciting, intense play...
|
Short boring games? Dragged out games can be boring too... just waiting and macro and waiting and more macro. SCII is not just about macro games people. It's also about the micro intensive games. All-ins and timing pushes are very micro intensive. Why are you complaining about these players? They do what it takes to win with THEIR PLAYSTYLE. Stop bashing and get with it... I mean, most of you guys aren't even GSL level... why trash talk the players who are? Jinro plays a more macro-oriented style, good for him. Rain's rushing style is great as well.

Rain didn't cheese. He used a safe and established timing attack against a known Zerg opening. Timing attacks are hilariously strong in this game, get over the "cheese" fallback.
You don't call using an uppercut against a predictable jump-in "cheese" in a fighting game, even though it's a "risky" move that leaves you "open to punishment", because it's known to work against jump-ins most of the time and is therefore a proper response.
If you don't like timing attacks, that's a different story altogether, but unfortunately they are extremely difficult to stop in SC2 with anything other than brute force.
"Safe and established"... dude get over the whole Terran need to defend risky and ultimatly boring and/or bad play. It will win you games against the best of the world, take it you are one of them, but it is still not because skill or because it is valid. A good player can do macro games, Rain said it himself he would not be able to face Nestea in a real fight henche he did risky and bad cheese play, "Not risky" my ass: Go check the finals of GSL 2 Game 7. Properly defended the SCV "timing push" is a dead end full of burly men and rape.
Why are people defending his build when he himself (Rain that is) isn't? He is obviously a bit ashamed at his performance and feels the need to justify it. It won him the games, no one can argue that, but it wasn't good overall play. The only reason he can pull it off is because he himself isn't a bad player and Nestea actually being stupid enough to do some mistakes of his own; Nestea was not perfect.
I wish more Random players would speak instead of terran/zerg fanboys.

HongUn wants to show entertaining games. Rain wants to show macro games. Is it possible that we might get both? I certainly hope so.
|
He has no reason to be ashamed, he did a good push and all-in that worked against the GSL2 champion. He should be proud, but he is too modest.

Haha i think the forums have TSL_Rain as the most hated player of late. This interview at least sheds some light on the reason for his all-in approach.. i personally think fuck it - if your opponent can't hold off an all-in then why wouldn't you try it?
Maybe he will mix it up in the semis - but all the power to him!

When I was watching HongUnPrime match live I felt much differently about the player than in retrospect. I think HongUn's attitude toward the game and the sport is refreshing and I wish the best for him in his match against TSL_Rain.
