Thanks for the interview!

I'm glad Boxer mentioned how difficult it is for the players to have Blizz release huge balance patches right before a big event (such as the GSL ro64). I think he's just asking for patches to either be released/announced earlier so there's time to playtest, or if the patches weren't so game-changing.

They deliberately timed the release after the qualifiers but before the GSL RO64 because that was considered to be the least disruptive time they could do it. Blizzard also said they plan to have tournament servers that can be locked to a certain patch for the duration of an event so it will be less of a problem in the future.

Q: In SC2, you're also performing very well, what's the biggest advantage BW gamers get from transitioning to SC2?
Boxer: In War3, the workers can stop, but in BW, the workers pertty much don't stop, so the advantage is great.

I feel like I'm missing something here. What does he mean the workers can stop? Anyone?

Q: Fruitdealer, people have said you don't have a lot of passion and that your games are always with one method and the same opening.
Fruitdealer: It's hard to have passion while playing Zerg, actually. In defending, Zergs rarely do anything unusual. I've thought about it a lot, but anything nonstandard is simply too difficult to carry out. The talk about my out-of-game passion is probably because of my personality issues. If I do any ceremonies but end up losing, I'll be really ashamed of myself. Since I know there needs to be some passion, once I improve some more I'll consider adding ceremonies. But if I turn the tables in a losing situation, I'll definitely release all my passion.

????
Can't he just do his ceremonies after winning like everyone else?

The Wc3 thing might be that the workers slow down if you don't constantly make them move to mine( they sometimes move at "slow" instead of "average") where some people can get more gold early in the game if they have sufficient micro to do it
Or it could be that they only need 5 workers on a mine at any one time or something...

That would be great if but he might not always win though

Thanks for all the work translating this interview. How can you dislike Check? I think I'm even a bigger Check fan now knowing that he at least cares enough to email dayvie instead of whining on forums.

Q: Strategies can all be read online, so does that have an impact on practice? Do you hope Blizzard will improve on that? [T/N unsure]
Boxer: There's been talk that Blizzard has been working hard all along to fix this issue. Since they're working to resolve it, we can only wait. There's another point regarding control which is unsatisfying. Often, using a smurf online is for the purpose of not letting others know who you are, so as a result control methods have been discovered. The game system being too good is also a problem; it should be switched to a worse one. (haha) [T/N this whole response is full of things I'm not clear on]

They're talking specifically about the fact that build orders are viewable on battlenet, saying that you need to use a smurf account otherwise people can see the strats you've been working on.

Thanks a lot for the translation of this awesome interview.

EDIT: Looks like someone beat me to it, this has already been said.

Hm I'm still wondering when (and if...?) Fruitdealer will receive his money, he's been asked how he is going to spend it quite frequently, but he still hasn't received it...is it normal that it takes that long for the prize pool to be ..send.. to the winners, or is there something fishy going on? :O

Coming from the CSS scene where payments can easily take 6months+ and very often closer to a year for some tournaments, I can't see him having anything to worry about and I very highly doubt anything fishy is going on. Just takes a bit of time for things to be organized properly

This indeed seems to be the norm in the industry. I do not have a FPS background but a certain company still owes me money after ~2+ years after the tournament.
