will probably upgrade my PSU, memory, and windows 7, but is anything else necessary? Does my mobo even support i7?

Unless you want to run the game on max settings that should be pretty good...and no, different socket, you'd need a different mobo.

Actually just speculating form the builds in presentations that run off 8800gtx's when the first part came out on a def lga775 mobo there is a good chance he can run it at max depending on his screen res. The cpu is a little weak but shouldn't be a problem at 1680x1050 and the gpu has plenty of power

It's odd because the G31 isn't that old of a chipset so the board should easily be pcie1.1 and most graphics cards that are pcie2.0 can run without a glitch on pcie 1.1 it just adjusts it self to the bandwidth not that the 4770 would need it really. So i mean there is something of a disagreement between your mobo and gpu.

Cpu: AMD PhenomII X2 550 (3ghz)
Mobo: ASUS M4A78 AMD Socket AM3
Memory: 4 gb
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4770 512 mb

Will this be enough to run the game smoothly (ofcourse not on max settings) and I'm wondering if I can stream my sc2 matches without too much lagg..

In my bios I can set my PCI-E slot to use 1.0 or 1.0a.

Considering getting the steelseries 7g keyboard... Currently i have the logitech illuminated keyboard, and a few microsoft natural keyboards. This is definately something i'm working on..

ALSO: I've been holding off on actually going SLI until i know if SC2 will support it. Do we have any idea if it will?

SLI support comes from the video card drivers, Nvidia supports all popular games very quickly, usually by release. You shouldn't have anything to worry about. Though I googled your monitor, its 1680 x 1050? with a gtx 285 I don't think SLI will be of any use to you for SC2, you should max it out fine.

it was my understand that some features of SLI are done through the driver by default, but to get signficant increases in FPS, you need the game to support it.

For example, wow does not support SLI, but COD4 or Source does. I've read threads on the battle.net forums asking about Wow Support for SLI and they (blizzard tech reps) basically said it would require a rewrite of the engine, and that SLI wasnt included with the WOW engine because SLI was a neophyte technology at the time wow was developed.

You should be good in any modern games. Arma 2 didn't support it, but I'm pretty sure theres a fix for that. Besides, Arma 2 isn't exactly a very mainstream game.

i guess... still, i plan to play starcraft 2 primarily once beta starts, and i dont see a need to spend money on another gtx 285 (probably about 250$ now) if the game doesnt benefit significantly from it.

Even though i'm running 1680x1050, the monitor goes up to 120fps, and i'm pretty sure that larger battles could experience slowdown with full detail etc -- so i dont feel that the extra horsepower afforded with SLI would be wasted. I'd rather give the machine the breathing room that SLI could provide IF it is supported by the software.

I looked into the software support SLI (done in drivers) and this is not as beneficial as hardware (bridge) mode. I guess the software mode is good for games which dont support SLI directly, but for games that do, hardware mode yields better FPS gains.

Hmmm.. my rig is kind of old. Dunno if it will work.

Intel Pentium 4 2.80GHz
NVidia GeForce 6200
1280MB RAM
80 + 500 GB HD

My graphics card is pretty bad and my motherboard only has PCI slots so I can't upgrade it. I'll be getting a new laptop next school year so I won't be getting a new motherboard or anything.

Don't expect to run squat. I'll repeat it again and again but getting a netbook ($299) which can handle anything laptop related (surfing the internet etc up to photoshop) + a nice gaming computer is SO MUCH BETTER than just getting an expensive laptop. They all suck ass and will all have problems - a computer you built yourself will be much better for the money and will be far more capable than any shitty laptop you can get.

Quick question: Would you say a Nvidia GTS 250 is enough to run SC2 on normal settings comfortably and quietly? Im building a new computer but Im kinda stumped on the graphics card because while SC2 does look like its gonna need a high quality graphics card, I know its prolly more CPU intensive and Blizzard has always tries to prevent such high system reqs on its games.

I think from now on, every time we see someone sporting i7s asking whether they can play sc2 someone should quote that 20k build Ghermination made and tell them they need to upgrade to that.

You dished out over $1k in quite recent times, chances are that you are going to be able to play sc2. People have already posted many times guesses of the requirements of the game, and those are far from cutting edge.

You might be able to play but i'm not sure.

You know 9Gb DDR3 isn't a lot also the i7-920 isn't great ...

Um I'm pretty sure I won't be bringing a desktop computer to college, so a laptop is my only choice.

Hey guys, just some hours ago Apple released their new hardware models with a new iMac and a new classical MacBook.
The specs of the lowest version are:
2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB DDR3 memory
250GB hard drive1
8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics

what do you think about this specs? way too low right? graphic card and memory are not good enough. you can upgrade the memory to 4GB though.
