Anyways, I miss PGT. I rather enjoyed it.
Well... yes, there is a lot more of direct copy from PGT but, there are a lot of new stuff too. Admins and other trolls made a new pack of letter for ranks and people gave their opinion. As you can guess, everyone loves the old PGT style, and thats why it was never changed. Forum points system is almost similar, flags at server are similar, but the most part of copy are visible.
Admin panel, players profile, complaint manager, etc, isn´t similar at all.

It seemed to be advertised as "the new PGT" and everyone I talked to was like "Oh yeah, it's great. It's not as good as PGT because of the lag (Abyss had weird lag when it first came out), but it's about the same."
I think they were aiming for the PGT look-alike, as a lot of people were in serious pain of the lack of PGT, and that all of the alternative ladders were crap at the time, and when they logged onto Abyss they felt right at home seeing the rank icons and the same point system

PGT was great, better than iccup atm
thats the thing, atm things change k

Don't see what the big deal about the copying is. I mean, it would be one thing if they were competing and then jacked it. But community needed a replacement for its best ladder, so they took the best elements and rolled with it.

I don't think he meant it in a bad way anyway. He said he was "VERY VERY VERY Glad". Don't get offended...to copy something does rarely mean something bad. There never was a need to re-invent the wheel.

What did they copy... lol, even the front page layout is EXACTLY the same and it was advertised as the next pgt, they basically copied everything.

The foreign BW scene was set back so much by Pat's childish action. It was a stupid, petty, selfish thing to do, and it's hard for me to forgive him for that. He may have done a great deal of volunteer work, which is commendable, but when you're in such a position where so many people depend on you, you assume a certain set of responsibilities. Just like how it would be stupid, petty, and selfish if Manifesto7 just decided to shut down TL today because he didn't feel like running it anymore. At the very least Pat had an obligation to find someone else to run PGT if he had any concern for the community.

why would anyone feel sorry for PGT when you have it now in ICC. you can only feel nostalgic for your old friends, old better days, old everything. PGT was just a ladder.
I knew sooner or later a ladder like PGT would come back and everyone will play it. many shitty ladders appeared, and everyone said "dont say we want PGT coz pgt is gone". Then Abyss came and gave us the new PGT. -.-

Responsibilities my ass. When a mother gives birth, that's a responsibility, but when a man creates a site for the community to enjoy, that's different. But if indeed you do equate the birth of a child to creating PGTour, then Pat is your fucking mother, now give some respect for all the shit chr1s, gybs, tilaser, and pat went through for your birth.
it's not like he got bored and just went..."nah not today" it was most likely frustration. I would also think running a ladder is different from a forum with even more dedicated volunteers who have something more fun and exciting such as the korean pro-scene than for players outside the community who often are more bad mannered than they are good.

I dont mind if iccup copied some features. Many failed ladder-projects showed, that everyone wanted PGT or something like it. So the iccup team did the only correct thing for the BW community. they gave us a ladder that feels a bit like PGT in the god old days! Thanks PAT for the great time with PGT and thanks to iccup for giving us a great ladder atm!

Just here its kinda different, work and responsibility is shared. Mani could not shut down this page, you need Joy or Vic for that. Or if PoP is mean he probably could do that too ^^. This will never happen

It's not like PGTour didn't borrow ideas from other ladders.. They at least thought of an original name, instead of changing the first word of WGTour.

I won't even sarcastically thank Pat. PGT was probably one of the best, if not the best thing to happen to the foreign BW community, and then when something goes awry, he just disappears. No explanation, no apology, no nothing.

Every website on the internet was inspired by others. The same thing goes for every type of art form. If we're talking about technical only though, it's a ladder so of course it's going to use the same kind of statistics and else...
Pat was really selfish by not letting anyone else put it back up on their own money though (if he absolutely couldn't keep running it himself), so I don't give a shit what he has to say personally. We all really needed that back then and he ditched out. He gets no props. There's tons of volunteer work that goes on behind the scenes of all top sites in every niche, and most of the folks get no credit. So he definitely doesn't deserve any.

I second that, for the most part.

you fags who bitch about pat have absolutely zero appreciation on how much work and time he had to put up.

PR's contributed quite a lot but others commenting in this thread can't hold a flame to the contributions pat made. people like GI and skew should realize they are dwarfs on the BW scene compared to pat and should maybe think twice about dissing one of the gods of foreign SC
that's one thing that will always be in the sc community though, a lot of unappreciative pricks who never comprehend even a fraction of the colossal sacrifices being made to keep our community running at any given time.

anyways its nice to get that interview and 'close the book', so to speak, on the issue. thanks for posting it cheloman.

It's not the fact that Pat didn't contribute a lot, that's why I said I agree with Skew for the most part of what he said, since he focused on Pat leaving and stuff, not about his skill.
I'm on the same boat with Skew when it comes to his feelings on Pat leaving like he did.
I obviously am aware of what Pat did for the community, which was a lot, and I would never say he didn't contribute a lot, cuz I think he did.
So in conclusion, did Pat contribute a lot? yes. Was he wrong in leaving the way he did? yes. Did he admit to leaving faster than he should have, but it's just how he is when he decides on things? yes.

so... then he should get props. everyone makes mistakes, and someone with pat's credit is certainly entitled to make some.
