And so, how do i play iccup, does it need the launcher still?
its telling me it can't download in the folder i put SC in, and access is denied so i may need to reinstall. I only get the notification of new path when i connect to east server :/
aw man campaigns work again and all but no background music i want my terran disco music... if anyone can upload the big real install.exe(700mb~) (COUGH GTR) I would be very happy, im sure others would be as well
It downloads the update, then tells me "waiting for the application to close" even though it's closed. Then it tells me to close it, but I can't, because it's already closed. Then I click "try again." Repeat.

lol wut.
if you don't need it you can still obviously keep CD in lol how does this patch for some people's convenience affect your decision to play starcraft (quit?) lol
MAKE SURE YOU DID STEP ONE IN THE PATCH.TXT thingy located in your starcraft folder.
Without this you will only see Broodwar.mpq after renaming it although it will really be hidden as: Broodwar.mpq.exe, once you've done step one you will see.
If you did step one first then you won't see any of this like i did when i lost my virginity to patch 1.15.2
As awesome as this is the file they want you to copy over is ~560 Mb. I think i'll just stick with the 2.8 Mb iso like anch mentioned. Huge props to blizzard anyway.
-edit- If you mount the iso you can open the mounted cd and use the install.exe from there instead of the large one from the real cd. You still won't have the missions or some music, but at least you don't have to mount the iso anymore.
wait wth for me its still 1.15.1 T.T sooo 1.15.2 is coming later or something? cuz when i went on b.net it doesnt seem like it went to dl the new patch Edit: it only seems to be working for East
if you guys wanna patch it down go to www.broodwar.de then u go to download section at the left then you click filebase then go to patches and u will see 1.15.1 its a 24mb size i believe USWest is gonna get the patch at 12am

No fucking kidding.. I was dumb to just download it and try.... now I guess ill spend some time trying to figure out if it is somthing wrong or whatever... but ones things for sure, I'm not putting in passwords for stuff I care about till i scan my comp.. dont want to be key logged.
Srsly, why would Blizzard get rid of the slight copyright protection they have... Unless the patch also has some big nohack stuff underneath or something.

blizzard is also going to release a no-cd patch for wc3. check battle.net forum for your information
I got the patch and the no cd thing works beautifully though it's not really a necessity. I hope they fix other things and really its hot hard to revert back to previous versions.

Dunno... just can't seem to be able to delete the file. Ran some rootkit/trojan test thingamajig that must be ran in safe mode, and it detected nothing.... scanned the file with AVG, says nothing wrong with it... but I just cannot delete it.. which is the most suspescious thing.
You can play ICCup on 1.15.2 from what I know. Just change all of your extensions now because you can't use a no-CD loader. You need to redirect everything right to your starcraft folder. I haven't tried this yet. I'm outta work at 10 AM I'll fool around with it then if no one else has...
Download and run a program called "killbox", do a search for it you can probably find it on download.com/softpedia. Once inside the program point it towards the "install.exe" you downloaded and check "remove on restart" then restart.
Im not sure if this removes all traces of the program, it could have downloaded more, installed other places, be sure to run some (multiple) virus scans using different programs. Try the f-secure online scan and the panda av online scan.
Ouchey ouch ouch guys. I guess lesson learn, don't download suspicious small exe files from some unknown guy in a forum. What a hassle you have to use killbox and god knows what else.

wtf guys? i used this "fake" install.exe since 2 years, but ok its a fake... ROFL
PS: i would post the smaller BroodWar.mpq (481kb bw must patched it) and 1.15.2 files, but its not welcome here. PPS: all with less than 1000posts are strangers here!
shit, i lost my BW CD ages ago as i was using the NO-CD iccup launcher. i was playing on west with 1.15.1 ...then went to east, downloaded the new patch, logged off, now im screwed cuz the launcher doesnt recognize the new patch and bw wont let me install 1.15.1 over 1.15.2. anything i can do?

if u know how to compare an md5, u will see that im right >
I dont think an 04 member would randomly post an install.exe .rar within 30 minutes of the new patch to infect millions of TL users with a secret virus//trojan. You guys don't think that's a little ridiculous on your part? I used it and it works fine...
Guys if you're having problems with application version and you're using advloader, turn off advloader. I had problems logging on before but just tried after turning off advloader and I logged on just fine.
scan all files with an antivirus program, cause im a stranger here...
Can some mod delete this guys posts in this thread? He previously posted the link to an exe file that couldn't be deleted.
...
I downloaded that guy's files, they work perfectly fine. I don't know about the install.exe, but I seriously doubt a member that signed up in 2004 would try to put viruses on here.
These files work fine, there's no need to delete them IMO.

You have noticed the amount of games being downloadable these days? None of them require a CD of course.
Maybe they understand that after the initial sale of the game only multiplayer content locked to an account or similar will make them money, not incredibly-easy-to-pass cd checks.
It is probably in blizzard's best interest to allow as MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE to play starcraft, so they will get pumped for SCII. SC is probably no longer making them much money, but if they let a lot of ppl play it, maybe more ppl will be interested in SCII. (my theory)
I got on the Blizzard Tech Support channel and tried asking them questions for the guys who can't patch to 1.15.2, but after seeing this:
[13:59:42.900] <JonD.Support@Blizzard> xhuffx@USWest: There is not an option to whisper an entire friends list at once. I recommend going in to the same chat room if you want to speak with all of them.
I began losing faith...
Anyways, they ignored my question and now they're closed for two hours, so I dunno what to tell you guys.

Registry error loading key 'Starcraft\InstallPath' The system cannot find the file specified.

what to do ?
Your starcraft is not installed correctly. Your choices are: 1. Reinstall it 2. Use a program to correct it, Chaoslauncher and BWL4 have a setting for the SC-Path 3. Use regedit and fix it manually
Welp, just had to reinstall because there was some obscure problem that I wasn't gonna fix. This patch strikes me as utterly useless - if you have the CDs, you could just as well make ISOs, mount them and have a no CD that way (which is what I'm gonna keep doing).
Anyway, does Chaoslauncher work with this version? Does ADVLoader? I'm guessing yes to the former and no to the latter.

ADV gave me application version when I tried last night. : (

Well, considering that you need to copy a ~550MB file to the SC directory for this to work you're not exactly gaining that much
A nice little update, even if not absolutely necessary due to the existing ways to launch the game without a CD. At least this is officially supported now. Should make small lan games with one CD a bit easier to set up as well. Haven't tried it myself but I recall reading that you had to swap the CD from one machine to another before starting if you weren't using any other tools or an ISO.
I have something in the background ruining my starcraft when it gets to the multi player screen... but i dont know what it is. does anyone have the similar situation as mine?
i have somewhat messy starcraft folder, its installed right im pretty sure. Also, what do you mean use regedit to fix it? plz elaborate on the solutions a bit plz

Uh no. You still need a handy dandy CD Key to install the program. You also originally needed a CD to go about this process. The fact that there are so many ISO's that worked just fine made this patch even more irrelevant...
It was a waste of their time TBH, and in fact was a step in the wrong direction.
On January 17 2008 05:08 Quesadilla wrote: I've been using an ISO for a while, but this is an easy way to free up 700MB and also keep stuff loading super quick. Props to Blizz
this patch doesn't free much disk space, because the install.exe is the dominant part of ISO file, no matter you use a small compact ISO or the original one.
But anyway, this is an official move, ending the era when we trying "hard" to get rid of the CD to play bw, so it means something
Now it works.. i can get on iccup just fine but when I log on to bnet it denies me saying "your cd key has been deactivated please contact blizzard support" has bnet found my hacks? Jesus I hope not. They are so damn mysterious not even I knew about them...
Ok...i see the INSTALLE.EXE file...but it is 500mb...is it the same for everyone?? i have a no cd patch/crack/hack...i will probably need to reinstall, but can i just clarify with everyone that it is the 500mb install.exe file that you need to copy and paste into the folder???
oh and someone posted a link to forums in bwhacks.com but bwhacks doesnt work for me. Has something happened??
if you are using iccup launcher or mini-bw, i believe there is a install.exe in ur folder already, just rename it like how blizzard said and you are good.

I had the same problem. The only way it went away was if I deleted the Starcraft folder after running the uninstall kit from add/remove programs. The game gets confused by random files from adv loader, no-cd loader and whatever BW-related program you might have installed sometime in the past. You may want to save replays and maps separately and copy them after the reinstall.

Minimum SC?
just meant: for normal starcraft every file youll remove from this mpq will lead to errors. so this should be minimum no-cd for an ordiary Starcraft install. Even if you have a mini-starcraft you will need an StarCraft.mpq or BroodWar.mpq with those files in the "rez" directory because otherwise the program will complain about the missing cd (glucmpgn.bin and gluexpcmpgn.bin just have to exist dont have to have content)

1. Download http://www.speedshare.org/UdHffQPpcR 2. extract in a new directory 3. copy in the StarDat.mpq and BrooDat.mpq from your previous install 4. you now have a clean, nice, small installation of SC/BW/1.15.2 5. try not to destroy it again!!!
Thanks a LOT for the help. I received multiple PM's from helpful tl.net posters and its really refreshing to see people so eager to help <3
I had it taken care of. One of my buddies gave me a key and its all good. Apparently I kept not unchecking the box that says "would you like to send a full cpu report to blizzard?" or w/e. Evidently they dont like something on my computer haha! They locked up 3 keys after a morning of reinstalling this damn game! Ah well, I finally wisened up and unchecked the box.. all clear now Thanks though!

you ust gotta throw in your maps in the new ffolder as well
God YES ! I was just about to download another daemon tools or some shit just because my cd drive was running noisy on my laptop ! This comes just right in time, i'm so f*king happy now ! GG Blizzard ! :D This is like the first good patch we've ever got for ages !
So did Blizzard do more than what was put in the patch log?
No, there's fucking hacks out already, and the rumor is a minhack will be out soon
Pretty Much every new patch does more than it says in the patch log. Fixing minor glitches and changing minor things. I don't know why they don't list them.
Patches always negate hacks but like he said it only takes a few days before those hackers modify their old ones to fit the new patches.
Hate to ressurect whats quite an old thread now, but i came back to get the small .mpq again and the speedshare link is broken. Anyone mind re-uploading it =0
this is an old question, but the solutions ive been finding arent working for me. i have trouble getting antihack to work, as some of the people on IRC mite know.
ive downloaded it, the latest version, and ive pressed launch bw. It didnt work.
Then, i renamed the install.exe to broodwar.mpq and then tried it. It still didn't work.
Blizzard put up a new update yesterday. Iccup hasn't come up with a new launcher compatible to the version 1.16 yet, so just wait until they get it out and you'll be fine.
