Group Stage All participants will be placed into groups based on seeding. Seeding will be done based on previous tournament results as well as a number of other factors, such as results in NYC BW LAN #1, claimed MMR in BW:RM, ICCup, Fish, personal impressions of players' skill level, so on and so forth.
There will be up to 4 players per group. The groups and consequent tournament will follow the MSL format, which can be referenced here:
2-0: First seed -> Seed 1 Gosu Tour 2-1: Second seed -> Seed 2 Gosu Tour 1-2: Third Seed -> Seed 1 Chobo Tour 0-2: Fourth Seed -> Seed 2 Chobo Tour
If there are less than 4 players in your group, the format will be Round Robin and any tie-breakers and seeding will be determined on-site following a similar logic to the proposed format of NYC LAN #1's "under-32" format. Reference link.
From that point on, the Gosu and Chobo tours will run separately, following a single-elimination format.
Group stages are Bo1, the tournament proper is Bo3, with the Grand Finals of each tour being Bo5. Thus, each player has two vetoes in the main bracket, and one veto in the Grand Finals.
Maps for the group stage are as follows:
Game 1: Fighting Spirit Game 2. Sylphid Game 3" Circuit Breaker
1. ICCup Ladder Rules where applicable. 2. If an administrator asks you to pause a game, you must pause. 3. If you disconnect from a game due to your hours running out, you forfeit the series. 4. If you disconnect/game crashes/whatever due to some other issue that is outside of your control: a. If both players agree the game was even: rematch. b. If both players agree one person had a significant advantage, win is awarded to that player. c. If no agreement can be made, you may request admin review. 5. Keep your computer area clean. Multiple trash bins line the hallway areas. There is sanitizer and paper towels at the front desk. Don't get greasy food on their stuff. We are trying to maintain a good impression and if all goes well, use this venue in the future. 6. Administrator decisions are final. 7. Don't be a dick.
Best Internet Cafe - Baishi* 36-31 Prince St. Flushing, NY, 11354 Google Maps link *Subject to change; other venues will be scouted in the area in the coming weeks.
Yes. 2) How many computers per room, how many rooms, how much each costs, etc.?
~60 total. 40 in the general area. 15 in the high-end area. 4 in each of two private rooms.
Memberships are the recommended option for players. The way this works is, you buy a $20 membership, which gives you $23 of credit for use at the venue (they throw in $3 extra). Being a member means that you pay less per hour for computers. The prices are:
General area: $4/hour, $2/hour with membership (11 hours credit) Watercooled area: $6/hour, $4/hour with membership (5 hours credit) Private area: $10/hour, $6/hour with membership (3 hours credit)
The added perk of membership is that if we return to this venue in the future, you will already have it and can just add money to your account as necessary. If you are not planning on entering the tournament, or don’t anticipate staying long, you can forego this option, but it is heavily recommended for tournament participants to get a membership.
We will be negotiating a package deal with the venue once we have a complete head count, in an attempt to make the price distribution more even for everyone regardless of which computers they use in which area. 3) How much space can we imaginably reserve?
As much as we need, with high-end and private areas being reserved first (most likely).
4) Will there be a stream?
Yes.
5) Can we bring a CRT + consoles?
Not enough room/outlets for this.
6) a. Are there any lounge/chilling areas?
Yes, relatively small though. The general and high end areas are relatively open-air, and there is room to stand behind players to obs FPV.
b. Extra chairs available or in close proximity?
Only a few - need to source more chairs.
7) Is there a big screen TV we can stream to?
Yes, in the entrance area, where there is some standing room.
Their site seems to be buggy/I can't figure out how to check availability. Perhaps you may need to call them.

There are of course many options that are within reach by pub trans. If you have any further questions about the area you can feel free to PM me.
This is an internet cafe, so you do not need to BYOC.
*** Arrival Time ***
Saturday, Oct 19 4:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Arrive early! If you are not at a computer by 1:00 PM, you will not play in the tournament.
12:00 PM: Latest recommended arrival time for all tournament participants. 12:45-1:00 PM: Late additions (late sign-up, walk-in, etc.) to the tournament will be assigned computers if space allows. 1:00 PM: All tournament participants must be logged on and ready to play. ~1:00 PM: Beginning of first round. ~4:00 PM: Food will be ordered, estimated to arrive by 5:00 PM. ~8:30 PM +: Tournament ends. @Tournament end: Awards ceremony, interviews, debriefing, logistics to KBBQ.
2. Bus: 15-25 minutes, including time walking to the bus stop. Q12, Q13, and Q25 busses all work, and seem to run every 20 minutes or so.
3. Uber: 10-25 minutes. You can arrange for a shared ride with other people at the venue. The recommended way of doing so is ordering UberX for ~4 people, or UberXL for 5-6 people. It will go on one person's account, and the rest can chip in with cash or buying a drink at Picnic Garden
4. Walking: ~30 minutes.
Please either post here or PM me if you wish to go so that we can make a reservation.
Please fill out the PM informing me that you wish to donate to this event and I will provide you with a link.
Matcherino takes a cut and their bracket services are not useful for an in-person event of this nature. PayPal business also takes a cut. This is the best solution. In "Additional Information" you will find examples of previous events like this that I have run and participated in.
Note: You can also donate in-person if you are attending the event!
All donations are greatly appreciated!!!
*** Additional Information ***
This event is being organized by SuGo, Tim, and myself, with preemptive on-site assistance provided by Overtime.
The NYC BW LAN community has a rich history, which you can easily find by searching for "NYC" in the search bar on TL. We have a FaceBook group. I have organized and helped run tournaments in this area in the past, such as this one. There were manyotherevents in Manhattan and Flushing in the past as well. We are hoping to reignite the passion for LAN BW in the NYC area, so we hope that you will come and play!
Based on the feedback we have received via post-event questionnaires, the event was successful. We hope to improve upon our extant model and deliver an even better tournament experience this time around, and in the future.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask in the comments.
*** Sign-ups ***
Early sign-ups are now closed. However, you are more than welcome to sign up at any time prior to the tournament in order to give yourself a higher priority in filling any potentially empty computer spots that we have reserved.
Official Announcement #8! We are again blessed and thankful to...
A secret organization named...
"Revival of Brood War"
Which has generously donated $500!
Out of this sum, 80%, or $400 will be added to the prize pool, bringing us to a total of...
$1816.01 + buy-ins for the prize pool!
Just as before with eSports.fund, the $100 will be going towards expense coverage - and any unspent funds will be distributed to the winners. We now have more funds set aside for expenses than for the previous tournament, but as this is our second time around, we expect to spend less - and thus put more into players' hands!
We are very thankful to Revival of Brood War and all of our generous donors and sponsors!
---
A more minor announcement is that I will unfortunately no longer be attending the event. I will be handing over all of the funds, contact information, and assets that I have collected over the past half-year over the course of the next few weeks as we migrate my responsibilities to Tim and SuGo, both of whom are prepared to continue organizing this event. I want to thank all of you that have made this experience enjoyable, everyone who supported us as an organization and me personally in your messages, and everyone who, regardless of minor drama or disagreements, behaved in a way that exemplifies what our community could be. Thank you all.
This is my last announcement! Stay tuned for a new thread for the tournament, coming soon!
We have received a donation from SethN, an NYC LAN #1 participant and longtime BW player, my former teammate on the Rutgers BW team! I would like to extend an enormous thank you to him for donating $500 to the prize pool!
This brings us to a total of $1416.01 + buy-ins!
We have now officially exceeded the base funding from NYC LAN #1! I can't be more thankful and proud of our community for coming together to make this tournament as hype as possible. What we anticipated six months ago to be a small get-together has blown all of our wildest expectations time and again. We have now closed pre-sign up and have informed the venue about how many computers we will be reserving. You are still more than welcome to sign up, but you may not be guaranteed a computer space on the tournament. However, the order in which you sign up will give you a higher priority for available computer space depending on who signs up first.
We have received a donation from yellowFoxbat, an NYC LAN #1 participant and LMaster Beginner StarCraft Discord veteran! I would like to extend an enormous thank you to him for donating $150 to the prize pool! Mr. Foxbat had a few shout-outs that he would like to share
"Shout out to LMaster Beginner's StarCraft Club (click for invite link). We have advice on becoming better at BW, fun degenerate game modes, practice partners, grudge matches, and dumb shitposts. Honorable mentions to abstract daddy, Tim, gurthang, overtime, armada, faust, and sugo, all from LMBSCD who I met in person at the last NYC LAN."
We are now (again) officially sponsored by eSport.fund!
Thanks in large part to the hard work, dedication, and love for Brood War of Rus_Brain, we have come to an easy and pleasant agreement of terms with eSport.fund and have secured this sponsorship for our prize pool. We are proud to add their logo to our banner. $300 of their contribution will be going towards the prize pool, while the remainder ($82.10 after surcharges) will be going to expenses. However! If, by the day of the tournament, there is a remainder from the expenses allotment, it will be going directly into the tournament's prize pool
With eSport.fund's $382.10, we have a grand total of...
$766.01 + buy-ins in the prize pool!
Let's hear it for Rus_Brain and eSport.fund!

Also: I have extended the deadline for signing up for the tournament. After talking with the manager, we have determined that we don't need to determine a final head count quite so early - as such, we will be extending the sign-up deadline for guaranteed computer spots to September 19th. I'm looking forward to seeing more new faces sign up, and of course the return of last tour's players!
Maps for the group stage have been decided! They are as follows:
Game 1: Fighting Spirit Game 2. Sylphid Game 3: Circuit Breaker
What this means is the four player groups will look something like this:
Player 1 <Fighting Spirit> Player 2 Player 3 <Fighting Spirit> Player 4 Player 1 <Sylphid> Player 4 Player 3 <Sylphid> Player 2 Player 3 <Circuit Breaker> Player 4
Player 1 advances 2-0 as Seed 1 to Gosu Tour. Player 4 advances 2-1 as Seed 2 to Gosu Tour. Player 3 advances 1-2 as Seed 1 to Chobo Tour. Player 2 advances 0-2 as Seed 2 to Chobo Tour.

You can find parking within a few blocks free of charge on weekends as far as I know, but it will be a few blocks' walk back to the venue from there. I was setting up with Overtime and we walked about 5-10 minutes to his car which I believe did not require any sort of parking permit or payment on a Saturday.
TL;DR: You can find free parking if you're willing to walk a little bit.

Who is the most important person in an organization - CEO, CFO, or PR Manager?
If you picked one, wrong answer, because the answer is all of them combined

ummm can someone explain the format a little bit more detailed? group stage is double-elimination. this is easy to understand. but two separated tours (gosu and chobo) after that? i m so confused.

Yes, two separate tours that will be single elimination bracket format. Like Ro16 MSL.

so what if gosu players lose on purpose in the group stage in order to have a better chance to win chobo tour title?

Then they are assholes and we ban them if we determine that they threw the game. I don't expect it to be an issue though.

Yes thanks again to all the administrators of this event, it's really great there are still LAN's going on.
EDIT : Just out of curiosity, why isn't Ty2 permitted to play? No offense but it cannot be due to him having too high of a skill level, I feel like SuGo / Nyoken are much better players no offense, so what is the reason behind this?

The situation will not be discussed further in this thread.

Haha I've played on Clay Fields in a number of tournaments including hosting it in one of the leagues I ran. I'm going into this LAN with an advantage.
Theres a ton of VODS and replays of games on Clay Fields in this thread: Card Cup #2
The majority of the games were played on Clay Fields, (Game1,2,4, and 5 in every series) so just click on any video and you will find some games. Its all labelled up there in the thread.

no, i'm not jelly why ppl always go there?
\i just think it's pretty ridicolous that one of the biggest BW LANs ever, and in 2019 AND the one that literally pays people from around the world to get there (guys from NA too, and he didn't have to do it at all.. he just cares and loves BW) can't raise 5000k $ in couple of months and some random ass NY LAN for, let's be honest, mediocre players raised almost 2k$ in couple of weeks
I just find this hilariously ridiculous.
And yeah, it would be cool if you guys chipped in for the whole community too. I'm not saying you have to, but it would be a cool move and good for the foreign BW overall. Meanwhile NY LAN is only good for NA people that can actually afford to go there or live close enough that's all i'm saying. Don't get your panties in a bunch, bro

Have fun
What's ridiculous is that you're essentially badmouthing another event that is taking place. All events are good for the community. The two have different audiences, and the two have different meanings.
People are donating to this because it's what they want to donate to. People may like this NY LAN more than they like Corrupted Cup, and that's their opinion. I also like NY LAN more than Corrupted Cup - and so I'll support it. I assume that's the same for many others and how we've reached 2k in donations. This NYC LAN is important to people in this specific community. And even if they're "mediocre" players, so what? Lesser skilled players aren't allowed to donate and have their own fun? Be more open minded.
Anyways, there's no point to compare it - both are good tournaments and both do justice for our community. The comments you're making create a divide. Let's just be happy that tournaments are getting greater than 1k prize pools. That is the step the entire community would like to see, I'm sure.
Also, since you want to be so blunt, It should be NO surprise to you that people in NA generally have higher salaries and a higher cost of living than most European countries. Economically speaking, raising 2k here isn't the same as Europeans raising 2k. Just like raising 2k here would not be the same as raising 2k in South America. If you want to get technical, the socioeconomic perspective ties into what you see as the donation pool and how quickly we're able to do it. You should go study general salaries by region, cost of living, and then you may better understand this whole concept, instead of coming here saying it's ridiculous that people in the NYC area raised this money (this prize pool isn't even equivalent to the average 1 month rent in NYC). None of this is "hilariously ridiculous" as you put it.
People will donate where THEY want to donate. It's their money, not yours. And it's not your decision to say where people put their money. If you like Corrupted Cup so much, go support it. I think that's great if you want to do it.
So, shall we go back to talking about the NYC LAN instead of bickering about prize pools and comparing it to other tournaments?

lol.. such a weird scene...
Offline tournaments have always been more important than online ones in BW
Jokes aside, I don't view this tournament as "random" - we've done this on and off for over 10 years.
Biggest LAN tournament since WCG 2010 still needs around 1000$ so we can have it next year too.. and I'm talking about Corrupted Cup ofc
So what is your suggestion? That we give them the money we raised? Stop whining and get real lol. You just jelly.

Fun fact: eSport.fund actually donated to the NA Lan prizepool!
@M3t4PhYzX, If all weighted community impact and donated Corrupted Cup only, the BW community would have been nothing more but a religious sect. To the contrary, making possible the sunrise elsewhere is a sign of a mature community.
This is perhaps premature as I am not aware of the current status or decision from the secret organization named "Revival of Brood War", but I can openly say that they have exceeded their fundraising goal for NYC LAN (their goal was $500, they exceeded it in a single day). They came to me asking me what I suggest we do with the excess funds - add them to the current tournament? Save them for the next NYC LAN tournament?
My suggestion: donate it to Corrupted Cup. I provided them with information about the tournament, including a link to the thread, the Liquipedia page, the Matcherino page, and the introductory video on YouTube. I provided them with positive feedback about my experience in dealing with eSport.fund and Rus_Brain, as well as an elaboration as to why I think this is a worthwhile venture to donate to.
So, Mr. M3t4PhYzX, please be a little more mindful before aggressively voicing negative opinions based on limited information and potentially biased perspectives

I'm takin 2 scoops of PWO in the parking garage! But anyway you gentlemen have done an amazing job organizing things so allocate the damn funds where you see fit. I'm showin up at my best either way. #respect
I have just gotten confirmation that the secret organization known as "Revival of Brood War" will be donating the excess funds (over $200!) to Corrupted Cup
EDIT: The secret organization known as "Revival of Brood War" donated the excess funds from NYC LAN (almost $300!) to Corrupted Cup Three cheers!
Hey, Jealous. I just want to say congratulations for organizing such a successful event. Raising $1998.11 for this second LAN is truly amazing. I didn't believe this second LAN would be anywhere near as big as the first, but that shows how much I know. You clearly have a talent for this kind of thing, and the community is very lucky to have you.

If you are among the people that signed up AFTER the deadline (September 19th), please try to come EARLY (11-11:30) so you can have the best chance at getting yourself a spot.

If you are among the people that signed up AFTER the deadline (September 19th), please try to come EARLY (11-11:30) so you can have the best chance at getting yourself a spot.
Please read:
-Please come earlier. Even if you were one of the first registrations, you need to come earlier. Please come between 11-11:30am.
-Peak time at this Cafe is around 1pm and onward. We want to try and essentially, "reserve" as many computers as we can in the morning. This way, we're good to go for the rest of the day and avoid any pitfall of people not having computers and that sort of thing. To clarify, this still won’t mean everyone who signed up will get in. However, starting early like this increases those chances a lot.
-What else does this mean? We will be starting the tournament earlier than 1pm which was originally stated. Likely, we will try to start the tournament between 12:15-12:30pm. So we want everyone to come about an hour earlier for check-in/reserve computers.
-For those that came for the first LAN, you will recall, that there is a 20$ payment to "buy" time on the computers. It's about 6-7 hours for 20 dollars. It wasn't much of an issue last time. A few people did have to re-buy some time for the last hour, but they refund you for unused hours.
-Lastly, *** Buy-In = $10 ***, if you will be actually participating in the tournament. If you're just coming to hang out and play casually, you don't need to do this. These buy-ins contribute to the total prize pool on top, so it's really just a "mandatory" donation, if you think about it.
So this is a VERY important announcement. See you all there.

No prob, you'll be missed. Next time you can make it.

Interesting suggestion. Makes sense, and there's a few folks who donated and will also be playing too.
It's pretty much an extra 10$ donation they'd have to give to enter, when in fact, they've already donated 50$+ or whatever. I see your point. There would have to be a minimum donation though; like you can't donate 10$ and get the waiver.
Perhaps this time we won't change it, but next time likely we can do something. I will talk to Tim and figure out something that makes sense.

Yes, I know we are all a buncha normie dudes who aren't keen on photographing but it's worth it in the end. Less random side shots of some darkened silhouette playing on the computer and more of staged group or solo shots with, you know, smiles?
Hello everyone, just wanted to make an announcement that I will NOT be able to attend due to some personal obligations.
Everyone will be in very good hands with USA's favorite Protoss, Tim, who is more than capable of running it. And I believe some of the participants will also lend a helping hand on administrative tasks / casting / etc.
Be nice to Tim, show up on time (11am ET), offer some help on something as basic as bracket administration (or whatever Tim might need help with), and make things generally easy for him when you can

When does the venue open? Can you update the main thread with the early arrival info? Thanks!
Venue is open 24/7, we want everyone to try and get there at 11 if possible, tho we can try to be accommodating to those that cannot get there quite that early.

Seems like a great event!! Hope you all have a blast. May I kindly ask if you know on which stream is it gonna be broadcasted, and roughly at what time.. so that we can maybe add it to the events calendar and get more people notified? Have fun!!
Somehow I always run into complications since I'm coming from two and a half hours away so I suggest simply to benefit me we start the tournament at 3 because I'll be getting in about noon sorry if there's any errors in this I'm using talk to text cuz I'm going 85 miles an hour

It's really humbling to show up in person to these events. I'm ~1400-1500 MMR and I struggled hard against my opponents, who played well! Then you chat with your opponents who say, in turn, "I just got stomped by XXX." I see the gap between me and my opponents, and see it closing... but then to see the gap between them and the next level!
So many great players here in NYC. I'm already excited for the next one where I hope to show better games GGs.
Will 100% show up to the next one, was sad I didn't get to go. It seemed to be an unfortunate situation for a lot of people who wanted to go but had obligations or things come up. Congrats to Ty2 and props to everyone who helped make this work.
