So many people are deleting their blizzard accounts that it's broken the account deletion system since last night.
|
I've cancelled my WoW subscription as well due to Blizzard bending the knee to the CCP. Didn't delete my account just yet though.

Lol it is so silly to do things like that haha. Internet is very strange place at times xD

Folks making their voice heard, even in minute ways, is not silly.

How is deleting your blizzard account and stop playing a game going to change a global sports policy on no politics in sport. How is it gonna change anything China is doing right now xD
All it is doing is cutting your nose off to spite your face as the saying goes.

At a minimum, it gets people like you to reveal how little you understand collective action and the state of free speech rights with reference to international platforms.

Politics has no place in any sports, football, nba, Esports. That is why there are rules to stop this to keep it away from the game. That is why sports are considered an escape and when you bring politics into it you have problems. The ban Blizzard gave is way to much, witholding prize money is way over the top, but he broke a rule that has been standard for years and this is not gonna change.

And there we go, you posted not because you think their individual acts are silly, but rather because you fancy yourself the sort of guy who would have shaken his head in disgust as Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists during the Star Spangled Banner at the '68 Olympics.
Nothing anywhere has ever not been political, and running into resistance from folks like you is a clear sign that these acts are paying dividends. "Keep your politics away from me and my personal enjoyments" is reactionary bullshit that deserves to be called out for the cowardly bootlicking it is.

Or more recently, kneeling during the anthem before an NFL game.

You are entitled to your opinion but you cannot push a "fact"like you are spouting onto others because it doesn't match your beliefs. My beliefs are no matter the statement, no matter the intentions, politics has been banned in sports for a very long time. Whether you agree with that statement or not, that is the case. People say they want Esports to be more professional and when it is...people moan about it, that is my opinion.
My opinion on what China is doing in Hong Kong is completely different and i agree with the stand and motion, but i do not agree with making a stand on a Hearthstone tournament where people watch for entertainment values not for political reasons.

because this is a WoW thread, this will be my last political post here. Political speech intended to disrupt the status quo or otherwise ruffle feathers is most effective in contexts where it is inherently disruptive. That’s why many of the most iconic political statements have taken place in times and places where they were against the rules.
So, I don’t think it’s right to suggest that Blizzard was totally in the wrong to punish blitzchung, rather that the punishment did not fit the infraction and it wound up being entirely counterproductive. Players across the world are pissed and are moved to act because of how poorly they handled it, and that’s a clear sign that blitzchung’s act was effective.
Lastly, telling folks that their personal speech acts are silly or wrong is itself an act of political speech, just as “follow the rules” is.
|
Sports have always been used to make political statements. So esports being used for that is actually very much in line with some people wanting esports to be more like the professional side of regular sports.
I could never be upset that someone used a platform like that to make a statement against the CCP. What they do is a crime against humanity.

Either Shadowlands (aka Wrath of the Bolvar) is confirmed or blizz is having some fun trolling people.
A new cinematic picture of bolvar alongside some "shadowlands" merch and branding was leaked a while ago, then last night that same picture was leaked again - at previously unseen higher resolution - from a publically visible URL on the main Blizzard website which has since been taken down.

I know a lot of people don't care about eSports. But the fact that Blizzard is not contributing their normal $500k to the AWC finals, or MDI is really scummy. When they said buying the toys would contribute to the prize pool, they made it seem like it would be on top of the $500k they normally contribute. Instead they are only using the money made from the toys, and only 25% of the total, for the prize pool.
They made over $2.5 mil from those toys. And are only spending $660k. So by selling these toys that people bought so they could get the competitors a bigger prize pool, they are making over $1.8 mil. And the competitors are only getting an extra $160k split between the 2 eSports.
The way that most people initially interpreted this "deal" already seemed really scummy to me - they kept 75% of purchase money and provided some really OP/annoying toys ingame that were way better than anything you could earn through legitimate activities.
Yet another avenue of triple-dipping into $$$ to have better stuff than everybody else as they continuously nerf and limit the stuff available to those "merely" paying for monthly sub and box cost to a far lower standard.
Now turns out that they're replacing the prize pool with that money instead of augmenting it, pocketing >90% of the cash (potentially 100%, if the sales numbers had been different).

Most interesting part of the entire cinematic picture is the fact he doesnt have red eyes like bolvar, rather blue ones like arthas
