Botting wave ban. Hilarious to hear top progress guilds fucked over by this because their players got banned.

Its always funny seeing people who, while playing an MMO, insist that certain tasks are a waste of their time, but that they still deserve to have the result. It is such a disconnected, nonsense perspective that I think they don't even realize it.

It is such a disconnected, nonsense perspective that I think they don't even realize it. i don't think it's that crazy. i never botted but i was pretty tempted when my time was limited. think like this: you can dedicate 10 hours/week to wow. that's all you care about is progression raiding. you can either bot and spend all your playing time raiding, or you can join a probably worse guild that raids fewer hours, and spend some of your 10 hours farming and some raiding. or you just dont play at all. it's not that crazy to choose the first option. play the game the way you want as long as you can. if you get banned, you're not really missing out on anything, because the game doesn't offer what you want. if there were tons of good games out there then i'd say the botting progression raiders should go play one that doesn't have farming/crafting/dailies etc as part of their design for raiders. but as it is, people ought to be able to make the most of what's available. it's not without its downsides, and it's certainly selfish and unfair to guildmates who are relying on you, but it's not total nonsense. there are people who take it too far though and are much more ambitious and disruptive with their botting. but the basic idea of wanting to do progression raiding without doing the mindless and unchallenging farming and grinding in order to prepare your character seems absolutely reasonable to me.

I dont see what you need to farm for though. I never did any specific farming, just collecting some herbs while doing world quests and I have 400k more than I need (and I dont even do many world q). Maybe progress raiders have some additional expenses I dont know about. But they also have the option of doing occasional sell runs and can make a lot with very little time. Usually these kind of guilds have way too much gold anyway from doing sell runs when there is no progress. So altogether I can not really believe this is due to someone being unable to afford his enchants or whatever. Also would progress guilds not kick anyone who they notice is botting? Even my casual guild did this because they did not want to equip people that would be banned.

Even my casual guild did this because they did not want to equip people that would be banned. If we're talking purely about bleeding edge raiders, then yeah it's a little silly for them to have been botting. Beyond that very select crowd, however, things are a lot messier. The basic problem is that WoW changed the expected time investment to accomplish certain goals, and this has put a strain on players and some guilds. If you barely had enough time to raid with your guild in WoD, Legion's demands put you in an extremely awkward position. Either your guild has to accept that you don't have the time to meet certain standards and accommodate you, or you have to force more WoW into your schedule somehow. Otherwise you can't raid with your guild anymore. So guilds that didn't have any issues in WoD suddenly have players in Legion who, despite nothing changing external to WoW, can't commit the same way they did before. It's not particularly surprising that players would turn to botting (especially if their guild means something to them). That's not what I would call a wise choice, but it's an understandable one.

Even my casual guild did this because they did not want to equip people that would be banned. I played in a top 20-50 EU progress guild all through Wrath and Cat till Halion.. that was probably the point at which I played the least, most people were tired of the game and only raid logged. Then there were like maybe 10-15 percent who literally played all day. It was kinda the same when I was in the 100-150 range as I was moving up and getting more competitive. Granted I played crazy hours the 2 years leading upto that point having all the gathering alts maxed out, alt runs all that jazz but eventually as a serious progression raider (and there is no way to get around doing it without putting time in initially) you probably play the game on average less than other people do. If you are good anyway.. In BC progression was fucking hard..or well Sunwell was fucking hard.. then they threw in achies which made it novel for a while but even that kinda got stale at some point. I remember I used to be watching tv shows while fishing and I probably watched like 30 anime series while fishing to get Salty on my main. Its not hard to do. You do spend alot of time farming initially on certain content, but that overflow of time you spend initially actually reduces the amount of time you have to spend playing probably 10x. Things come on farm faster, everything is automatic, you do smooth runs through everything. Everything that isnt progression raiding is on autopilot. Part of the reason I quit was because I was becoming a raid logger and it started feeling like a job. Under no circumstances is botting excusable for any reason imo. Its a bit different now because WQ's actually do require some time to be put in, especially with the AP and OR benig pretty important for a while, but still it cant be that hard to spend an hour farming that shit.
