The Niners are like my breakfast this morning - toast.

I'm interested who the biggest losers/winners in the off season are. I think the cowgirls are actually the team I think have moved up a lot on their competition, which there wasn't many more teams better than them in a stacked NFC. I'm sure Romo will find a way to pull defeat from the jaws of victory, but they'll be a team for me to watch this year. I think the AFC east got a lot better too even if the Pats took a couple steps back.

It means they'll tank and rebuild if they go that route.

I tend to think that the Niners are going to see how it goes for the first few games of the season to see where they're at. If it doesn't look good, I'd expect Baalke to blow it up.

Would be a tough year to tank. I just don't really like any of the QBs coming out. People are high on Hackenberg but idk. I'm not claiming to be an expert by any means but I'm not impressed. Seems like a lot of the same talk Gabbert got tbh. All this stuff about measurables but missing the numbers. I guess they at least said Hackenberg was able to grasp a complicated offense quickly which is decent praise and in his defense Penn State was really hurt by scholarship reductions. Maybe he'll do better this year.

Unless there is a "sure thing" at that #1 spot for a qb I don't see the point in tanking on purpose (Luck). If you can get a good haul of draft picks for what you have then go for it. Kaep feels like his ceiling is lower than the hype made it out to be an it feels like a lot of the time the number of picks (in the top 4 rounds) matter more than having a high first rounder.

Well tanking in the true sense doesn't make much sense, but getting a higher pick while playing young/inexpensive talent is a legit strategy. You certainly don't want to try to lose games unless there's an Andrew Luck in the draft, but shaving off expensive players and in the process getting higher draft picks in return is appealing to certain owners.

Idk, the draft is such a crapshoot that getting higher pics isn't necessarily a good long term plan. The best teams stay consistent because they usually start low, and then trade down and get lots of picks, rather than early ones.

All those teams have better QBs than Kaep though. There are basically 2 models that are working right now in the NFL:
1. Elite QB. This is the "sustained success" (Green Bay, New England, Indy) model where you trade down, accumulate picks and try to get lottery tickets that will turn you into an elite enough team that you win a Super Bowl (Gronk, Jordy).
2. Good QB. This is more of a boom/bust model (Ravens, Steelers, 49ers) because you need to get elite talent in the draft to surround your QB, and at some point those players cost too much to surround your QB (who is being paid nearly as much as the QBs in group 1) so you have to blow it up and rebuild. This would have happened to the 49ers eventually, but got massively accelerated.

The ravens, steelers, and now seahawks seem to have had great defenses though and a qb that can make a couple plays a game (long ball in particular) along with a solid RB. Those teams get a lot from mid tier talent on offense for a year or two then move on and let someone else overpay them.

Kap's average just really athletic. It's amazing how much I've come to dislike that overrated idiot over the past two years. He's basically a slightly better version of Mike Vick, except he's not malcious stupid like Vick. Just 15 year old boy stupid. That fucking asshat needs to get off twitter and learn to throw a ball already. I would put Kap a solid ways behind Flacco and Wilson. And yeah, that good qb method only works as long as you're paying your qb under $1m like the Hawks were. The Niners don't exactly have tons of space, reupped him, and are short on talent around him.

I do agree that they look into trading him if he they're not doing well by deadline. The Niners already have a food in the door for the firesale. They're just looking for an excuse to get rid of him and Davis at this point.
