the whole thing top to bottom is stupid, from peyton doing it, to the legal maneuverings, and most definitely the writer, a major major race baiter and overall shithead before this story, dredging up the past some 15-20 years later because he knows it gets his name in the news cycle. his motivations are pretty clear given that he named the fucking victim - id even argue he's the biggest shithead in all of this

yeah shitheads like that who try to make "journalistic news" about allegations like these end up hurting sexual assault victims more than helping, its a pretty sleazy way to try and cash in on Peyton Manning's success. now i'm not defending peyton's actions, but it's pretty ridiculous to call that guy a fucking journalist

no breaking something like that would be good if it were relevant for reasons other than 'Peyton's in the news all over now, and I can piggy back it'

The fact that King can't be bothered to cut out her name is further proof of his motivations there. Dredging up an ancient case now only benefits the writer, which is why he did it. like why on earth would the victim want her name going through this shit again, only to benefit some controversy generating retard like King?

relevant sometime after it happened, or with the legal proceededings, or with the book. Not relevant is damn well over a decade after. and yeah, from a journalistic point, it's shit because he creates his own narrative, injects himself into it, and can't be bothered to reach either parties for comment.

wasn't the issue this year, and the last couple, that his hip is really really fucked up?

The first time it happened, the Manning's downplayed her stature as a grad assistant. That opens her up to all sorts of accusations (doing it for the money, etc.), and lowers her credibility.

King's article, which goes into a lot more detail than I'd ever read before, builds her credibility so the Manning's can't simply dismiss her. The fact that she was a world class trainer and was treated that way holds a certain amount of importance, even though the action was just as wrong either way.

Beyond that, I don't think King's other articles or the timing takes away from the heart of the story. The heart is a guy that's gotten a free pass his entire life, and has done some pretty shitty things with it. He's never been called on it because reporters are terrified of being blacklisted by him, but there's plenty of rumors and I'm sure more will come out.

It's also compounded by the fact that Tennessee is under investigation for promoting this type of culture for decades. That her boss could call her a "cunt bumper" without being fired kind of reinforces that.

I didn't know about the last part - that is certainly enough grounds to bring it up ages later.

Don't change what I feel about King, but that's def relevant to the scope of that conversation.

Yeah, he was actually named in the lawsuit. ESPN finally had to report on it (supposedly there was a gag order on this story before.)

To quote the favorite line from last year, the cover up is worse than the offense. And holy shit that cover up was disgusting. I hope Peyton gets a miserably but non life threatening case of food poisoning from Papa Johns pizza every time he eats it for the rest of his life. (which to be fair isn't different from what every one else gets from eating papa johns.)

Gloria Steinem has shaken free of the left tackle .. she is closing in on Payton as he scrambles to find an open receiver...

he was more than happy to shout down the HGH accusations; on this issue i'm predicting a deafening silence from the Manning camp.

I don't know why, but that's not what I imagined when I heard this described on radio. Though that "black cowboy hat" makes a lot more sense than the one I was imagining.
