Didn't he used to talk about retiring midway through a disappointing season, in order to motivate his teams into the playoffs? I thought he did that at least twice.

I hope that the Niners swing a reasonable deal to get Sean Payton, but I wouldn't mind if they end up with Chip Kelly instead. Yeah, Kelly was an asshat in Philly and earned his termination, but he's fundamentally a good coach.

I felt both of those SB wins had a whole lot more to do with having, at the time, having a pretty much perfect roster for the modern nfl: flexibility to run or pass on offense, and a good DL to make a bend but dont break offense. Calling him most overrated coach is def part me being a salty fuck after all this Niner news and hearing dumb Giants fans all the time. Decent NFL coach yeah, but I watched a ton of Giants games over the years, and I don't think I once thought, 'Man, this is a well coached team'. Coughlin was always just a run of the mill, slightly above average coach to me. The best thing he ever did though was shut Tiki Barber the hell up. I thought people stopped saying Fisher was a good coach like 5 years ago?? Both guys are going to want GM and Balke won't cought that up, and I would imagine Baalke is toast unless the team makes playoffs next year. It's essentially a 1 year job. Chip def needs a resume boost, so I could see him taking the gamble without the GM for a year. Hiring a known asshole would make the Harbaugh firing even more hilarious. The Peyton speculation is apparently from last year when he made a comment. personally though, I think this team is at least 2-3 years away from competing. There are soooo many holes all over this awful roster now. As god awful as he was, I would have almost perfered that we kept idiot Tomsula since it doesn't make it infinitely harder to attract decent talent, and we'd suck bad enough for a high pick. Belichek himself could come into town and would struggle for 6 wins for the next few years.

Rebuilding the offensive line is clearly the number 1 priority. The defensive line also needs another impact player or two given how bad the pass rush looked this year. However, a lot of the DL guys are very young and may pan out (though I still hate the Armstead pick).

I thought people stopped saying Fisher was a good coach like 5 years ago?? No, they didn't. People still "respect his toughness". Plus, hes overrated just on the basis that he has a job (and has for the last 10 years) other than high school strength coach. On January 05 2016 07:11 Shellshock wrote: Why does Fisher still have a job? Is it just cause he made it to a super bowl once? Some people are saying it was because he was in charge of a team that moved cities before in case the Rams ended up going to LA but that seemed pretty week. Rams ownership just complacent? No one knows. The only plausible thing I can think of is he knows where several bodies, actual bodies mind you not the metaphorical ones, are buried.

Pagano's not great, but retaining the GM is downright ridiculous. His only successful moves are: 1. Picking the consensus #1 overall pick...at #1; and 2. Signing a competent backup QB.
