That, and players should sit out a shitton of games for going emery on someone, maybe then we only get fights where both guys wanna throw dem gloves and don't have to be scared when one team starts a game with goons.
To me it just seems unacceptable to (have to?) do some stupid shit just because you are scared of getting your good players beaten up, i mean just how ridiculous does that sound? We are talking SPORTS here...

Katz continues to jerk off Oiler's fans, but based on some of the comments to this article quite frankly they deserve it. Wow, 15-day suspension for Torts.

Most players aren't going to go Ray Emery-style on others if they don't want to fight. The Flames may have been trying to stir the pot or whatever. But his reasoning is not wholly without merit. He felt they had been playing well, and had scored a goal in the previous game. when your team is terrible, you've got to reward guys who you feel are doing well.
This culture of fighting for no fucking reason is perpetuated if you let players think that's what they need to do. Tortorella is fulfilling that old-school mindset. If you really feel the other guys are out there to injure your players, talk to the refs. I mean fuck guys, these are professionals who have every incentive to stay healthy and earn a yearly paycheck. This isn't some gladiatorial brawl fulfilling some big hatred of eachother. Again, it's not like 4th liners never play another team's 1/2/3rd line. This whole "sending a message" thing is just bullshit. Tortorella's reasoning is flawed and dangerous.
I'm not anti-fighting, I think it's a part of the game, but shit like this is absurd. if they were planning on just going for energy and playing legit, why's westgarth, he of 41 fights and 12 career draws for a .250 over six years in the league, sitting in the faceoff circle?? and why's westgarth the first one to drop his gloves and go forward? that makes it perfectly clear what the intent was there. youd be insane to roll anyone but the fourth out there in that situation. they were not out there to play the puck. furthermore, if they're stirring the pot and trying to intimidate, that's the sole reason someone like sestito exists. refs arent gonna do anything before the game has even started just because a team threw out their fourth line. and the claim of throwing a fourth line for energy might hold a little water if the flames' fourth line didnt feature two fighters who are completely awful at everything else. throw out your third line then, tell them specifically not to fight back, take the instigator, the 5 minute major and play on the PP. I watched the rest of that game. It was boring, 1977 error filled shit fest and the response by Torts was one of the reasons. Harley is and always has been a bush leagues scumbag who has no place in the NHL. But retarding an entire game because of him is dumb too. Coaches need to start feeling financial repressions for their decisions to play anti-hockey.
that fight effectively removed the fourth line from the game. how did torts' decision make the game error filled?? If anything, it made the skilled guys play more.

everyone was watching their back for the next cheapshot to fall and players wanted to minimize the time they held the puck. I've seen college hockey games more entertaining .

Its great being right all the time on obvious stuff that keyboard warriors get all up in arms about.

the NHL doesn't wanna look bush league in the eyes of the general public.

Except that it's a standard statement that's issued for everything, and they're talking about him going into the other team's hallway, not the fighting.

Wait, is lamprey one of the JR accounts? I need to keep a note on my desktop that keeps track of these accounts

Just gotta burn it all down, at least in terms of management. Keep some of those young guys for sure.

If the leafs blow this lead vs. the coyotes I'm gonna be really sad
|
god damnit with niemi its feast or famine, either he has a .980 or a .800. why cant this kid just play a solid reliable style.
|
leafs would supposedly consider trading kadri
lol
|
What the fuck, Howard goes down with another injury. The Wings can't stay healthy at all this season - they're basically an AHL team plus Zetterberg at this point.
|
Its a combo of Ken Holland never bothering to find them a true power forward and some young grinders and Babcock playing this team like he's the coach of LA or St Louis. Oh well, all streaks come to and end and hopefully with their obsession of making the playoffs at all costs finally reaching a limit they can focus on starting a real rebuild. Dats is only going to keep getting more and more injured and Zet cant carry the team without any support or defenders.

lol No one is "untradeable". If the return is right why not? These days that return would be a pretty nice one I believe since Kadri is playing very good
|
bailing on a talented youngster really only makes sense if youre doing so because youre near the cup and someone with a bit more expereince would be more beneficial. the leafs are no where near that point right now.
i guess the exception to that would be if they traded him to fill another need such as defense. even still, meh. hes a top 6 center, and the leafs lack those.
|
its hard to tell how talented he is, the year he was in a contract year he seemed pretty talented, sitting on his big fat deal now he seems pretty so-so
|
I have a feeling that Kadri is Sam Gagner v2.0. That doesn't make him bad (neither is Gagner), but it means he is what he is. Both are infuriating players but can do quite well in the right role. And both are players that fans expect to be all things but are maybe one or two things.
