The Oilers released all their tickets in September, all games in the entire year sold out in September. The Oilers and other Canadian teams are suffering from what i call "The Maples Leafs effect". Since 1960 the Leafs' attendance is not impacted by poor play. As a result, you get owners like Harold Ballard who realize this and behave accordingly. You get intra-ownership squabbles where the combatants hold little regard for Leafs fans are are more concerned with "winning in the boardroom" rather than winning on the ice. Ownership of the Leafs is constantly fighting with each other. The only time this was not happening was during the "Ballard Era". Other Canadian clubs such as the Oilers and Canadiens now face this same attendance issue. They sell out regardless of team performance. Ownership feels no real repurcssions due to bad play on the ice. All Canadian teams currently suffer from "The Maples Leafs effect" to one degree or another. the Montreal market has completely shifted... that party in Montreal after a round 1 win in Boston would not have occurred in the 20th century. The only party happens after a cup win. Katz knows he'll make money no matter what. Absolute power corrupts..absolutely. Just ask the fans of the "Ballard Era" Mapl Leafs.

Just ask the fans of the "Ballard Era" Mapl Leafs. thats a good analysis you made there, although that party after boston games may not be due to this "maple leaf effect" in montreal we have a winner's tradition(unlike toronto) and people are chauvinists, if the team won they won as well and since 1993 the club has made terrible desicision with trades and drafts so we're always underdogs against otherteam. we're a wildcard, we could win vs boston but could perfectly lose vs lowtier teams like buffalo. and everybody knew when that boston series happened that we had the thinnest chances to win.

Montreal never celebrated a first round playoff win before that year.

the best thing to do on any Saturday in Edmonton is to drive to Calgary. ![]() seriously though, Edmonton has the best cardiac surgeons in Alberta. And in the 60s, 70s and 80s, lower middle. whereas the Leafs played in the "Carlton Street Cashbox". Generating huge revenue compared to the rest of the NHL. The Canadian teams are generating elite level revenue regardless of performance. Harold Ballard would be proud.

http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/ Sure, their attendance drops, but they keep making lots and lots of money. The Cubs had their lowest attendance in 15 years and still made record revenue.

If you live in Edmonton and dont have a job you aren't trying hard enough. You might not be able to find the perfect job, but 16-20 bucks an hour in a labour position is quite quite easy, now-a-days.

The fact we have an unemployment rate higher then 0% just shows how lazy the unemployed here are since there are 10 times as many jobs as there are people to work in them.

Move them to Vegas and call them the Las Vegas Lights Early goings of this Oilers Sharks game is terrifying. Sharks are firing cannons from everywhere. Every save and block echos through our Rexall Place and the misses sound like gun shots.
