Yeah it gets to -40 but that's usually only for a few days once or twice a year. Our summers are just as nice, or nicer then what LA has, minus the beaches. Edmonton shopping is world class at West Edmonton Mall and our clubs bring in the best DJ on earth alot. But we suck and have a culture of losing and failure now so no one wants to come here except local guys looking to be near their families and players who need to showcase themselves for a future in the league.

I don't follow football. Never have never will so I'll just assume you know what your talking about. It's too slow a game.
I've lived here 26 years. The short days aren't bad at all. It's just dark more. Sun doesn't do alot for us. A few days ago the temperature rose 10 degrees after sunset. By 2am it was warmer outside then it was during the midday. It's +5 outside right now, 4:30am. +5. If you took out the 7 days a year where its -30 or worse the average temp here in winter would be like -5.

With all these out door games I wonder if the NHL is gonna allow a team to play 42 of them a year.
Still, I like the idea of a volleyball court right beside the rink. Lets gets some womens beach game goin!

Edmonton weather may be nice at times, but I think you'd be hard pressed to compare it to California... or at the very least, player's perceptions. That the California teams are also playing well probably doesn't help Edmonton's case either.

I like to think that the refusal of players to go to Edmonton is largely due to not wanting to play for an incompetent organization going nowhere and a high probability of being eaten alive by the overly invasive, narrative-manufacturing media than any direct indictment of Edmonton as a city. Various instances of asinine management have severely hurt the team's reputation in the eyes of players - the Mike Comrie debacle, the handling of the Chris Pronger fiasco, the mess with Sheldon Souray... and the list goes on. The Oilers have developed a strong tradition of being petty and personal when it comes to dealing with players.
I mean people still sign to go play in Detroit based on the organization's reputation of class and competitiveness despite the city being a less-than-desirable location.
If the Oilers were a winning team and a classy organization, then Edmonton would be a wonderful place to play. You'd be treated like royalty. That and the city really is a wonderful place. Sure, it gets cold, but whatever. The people in Edmonton are among the most (if not the most) genuinely friendly and kind I've met in any large Canadian city. It's a place with a lot of culture and fun and interesting things to do. Edmonton has a lot of personality. The Oilers not so much.

Its actually impossible to "not go to any games" more than Oilers fans already are this year.
The Oilers released all their tickets in September, all games in the entire year sold out in September.
