Trump is little more than the caricature that the Republicans have been building all these years come to life. It is not by some genius of persuasion or influence that he became president, but by the ability to self-fund a chaotic mess of campaign, promise everything the Republicans always have, and have a knack for drawing attention to oneself. It's as funny as it is sad that things went this way.

That's pretty much it.

You can't even blame voters really. Trump is also not a caricature of the republicans, it's what republicans have become for the most part. I said over and over again that being conservative is one (perfectly fine) thing, but being "republican" is something different. Of course there's some actual conservatives in the republican party, with (decent) conservative views, but overall the republican party is just a bunch of old farts that care more about catering to their lobbies and fucking everyone over who's not remotely rich.

Conservative != party over country. Republicans are a clown show, and they prove it over and over again. In fact, the last election race showed how uninformed and disconnected from reality republican politicians generally are.

The only thing I disagree with you on, in this post, is that voters are blameless in this situation. While the Republican leadership deserves plenty of blame, I also think that the voters who put those Republicans (and Trump) in office share the responsibility. The voters never educated themselves.

You may as well blame janitors for being janitors or a technician for never being an engineer. These people are the people they are...because of the people they are. It is a somewhat inescapable reality that many people will never be any better than the people they become by just kind of going through the motions of life. Most people don't push themselves, try to grow or feel any amount of internal motivation to make the world a better place. The average human is really, really, reallllly deficient.

This is a really negative view of humanity that I constantly try to avoid. This is part of ongoing US narrative about drive and achievement being a virtue, while being content is considered amoral. We spend a lot of time degrading the quite dignity of going to work every day and simply providing for yourself and family. And being satisfied with that existence.

Exactly, even those in needs in Western countries usualy have a home and food. What people are really lacking atm is self esteem and we're part of a big consumerism propaganda.

Once you start to blame your congress for nothing being done, it is not like they will start doing what you want. In the end, Trump is the person who didn't manage to get anything done, despite being elected president with a majority everywhere. No one is buying his deflections.

Slight correction: Trump did not win the majority of the vote, but that isn’t how we elected a President.

Sorry, i meant "majority in house, senate and supreme court" with "majority everywhere". You are of course correct.

Ah, that makes much more sense. And I agree that the Trump and the GOP won’t accomplish anything going forward. This push for tax reform will implode when the conservatives refuse agree to anything that would make the Democrats sign on.

Yeah it's been a lot worse this is just the rambling of a man who can no longer get anything done. He literally just sided with Russia in attacking Congress.

There was this one time were we literally lined up tanks at the Berlin wall and pointed them at the guard towers to threaten the Russians into releasing some US citizens they detained. But I am sure this is worse.

Wasn't that technically the Soviet Union, though? Since modern Russia has come into existence in the 90s I'd say we're at an all-time low.

Crimean invasion wasn't a lower low? Though I guess the current situation can be seen as a continued downward slide since then.

Of course. Our relationship has reverted back to pre fall of the Berlin wall status since the rise of Putin. I would love to say it is all him, but the dysfunction in our government and general disunity on foreign policy issues has emboldened almost every dictator on the planet. He is just taking advantage of that as long as he can.

Bernie Sanders has attacked Nissan for doing “everything it can” to stop workers unionizing at its Mississippi plant while making “obscene” profits.

In an editorial for the Guardian, the former presidential hopeful weighs in as Nissan workers prepare to vote on joining the United Auto Workers (UAW) union.

Echoing union officials and their supporters, Sanders says Nissan’s campaign against unionization “could go down as one of the most vicious, and illegal, anti-union crusades in decades.”

Nissan is being investigated by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the independent US government agency responsible for enforcing US labor law, after warning workers they could lose wages and benefits if they back the union vote.

Other workers have been told they will receive increased benefits and pay if they come out against the vote. “Workers should never have to endure this type of threatening campaign or walk through a minefield just to vote for a union,” Sanders writes. “The truth is Nissan is an all-too-familiar story of how greedy corporations divide and conquer working people.”

The Nissan vote is the latest in a series of attempts by unions to grow membership in the south, where many manufacturers have moved to take advantage of low wages and non-union workforces. Unions have faced similarly hard-fought battles to gain recognition at plants run by Boeing and Volkswagen and lost.

Sanders, actor Danny Glover and leading labor officials have all campaigned in support of the UAW’s attempts to unionise the 800-strong plant.

Nissan has union representation in 42 of 45 of its plants throughout the world, writes Sanders. “But the company does not want unions in the US south, because unions mean higher wages, safer working conditions, decent healthcare, and a secure retirement.

“Corporations like Nissan know that if they stop workers in Mississippi from forming a union, wages will continue to be abysmally low in this state.”

Sanders says Nissan had made $6.6bn in profits last year and paid chief executive officer Carlos Ghosn more than $9.5m last year.

“Those kinds of obscene profits are a direct result of corporations’ decades-long assault on workers and their unions,” he writes. “The American middle class, once the envy of the world, is disappearing while income and wealth inequality is soaring. We have got to turn that around.”

Source

Nissan is a wonderful corporation that's been unduly denied its rights to own the website Nissan.com! They'd never try to harm their workers!

Sounds like an awesome reason to join NATO, since that is what NATO aims to prevent.

Works both ways. Is also an awesome reason to invade them now, because it won't be doable after they join.

I am not sure that is awesome for Georgia. Maybe for Russia, but being invaded in generally bad.
