This is a very painful speech to watch.

After being somewhat changed from the RNC convention... I hope this convention doesn't turn me away from Democrat candidates for longer than just this election.

It's precisely the kind of hyper-sanitized, canned speech that you'd expect at a Democrat convention. What makes it particularly hilarious, though, is how it so badly whitewashes the larger context given its intended subject matter.

I've never watched one before, so I'm looking forward to making up my mind. And yeah, that is the exact kind of stuff that I dislike about the current left, but there were some very bad speakers at RNC too, so I'll forstall my judgement for a while.

@Rebs I support Drumpf this election, but historically, I've preferred Democratic candidates.

Other than Obama, which Democratic candidates have you actually supported?

I'm relatively young, so not in the present, but when I looked through the history and policy proposals and such, I thought Bill Clinton and Al Gore were the better choices, and Kerry as well, though maybe that's easy to say in hindsight. They've just been moving too far to the left initially... If Hillary wasn't so despicable and immoral, and wasn't drifting to the left because of the LGBT cultural shift and to gain support from Bernie bros, I think she'd be a fine candidate.

Do you think Bill Clinton was a better president than Drumpf would be ?

I don't know, but if Drumpf was a candidate in the 1992 or 2008 election versus them, I wouldn't vote for Drumpf. I understand what the means, but like I said, the shift at the moment is not right to me.

I looked back at that 2 years ago, and I've been slowly moving a bit more to the right as I get older. So it could be because of that too.

To bad Bill is a lieing cheater than. Thats just about as despicable as anything Hillary has done :p.

I have no care for promiscuity, and I think it has nothing to do with good work in office. I can see why some people would care, but I support legalization of prostitution with some regulation, especially if it can be done outside of the public, as it's done here, all online so nobody who doesn't want to be exposed to it isn't.

Anyway, bit off topic.

He lied under oath and committed a crime. You can go to jail for perjury. I am not going to say i wouldn't have told the same lie. But Billy Boy did way worse things than his wife in terms of criminal behavior.

To be fair, that isn't 100% a fair comparison because a lot of the prominent anti-Trump Republicans sat the convention out.

Solid chance that I'll be a Republican in 20 years as I get slightly more conservative and the conservatives ditch their stupid wing.

No this is just why I can't take this election seriously, everyone is either far left or far right, very few moderates like myself left. Talking to anyone is like talking to a brick wall. haven't seen a good post since Kwark's.

uhhh; I'm a moderate, and there's plent yof other moderates around. I'm not so sure you're a moderate, you don't really talk like one. But people can self-identify as whatever they like I guess. In fact the bulk of voters are independents adn moderates; if talking to everyone is like talking to a brick wall, have you considered that maybe the problem is something in your perception? that's more common really.
Your sense of moderate vs extreme doesn't seem to matchup with how people typically use the term.

You're going to tell me some one like Plansix can be spoken to rationally and he isn't the problem? If so you aren't a moderate.

He can be rather rough; but there's plenty of worse in the thread; and your sense of who's moderate and who isn't is simply terrible, and he did answer your question clearly. I am a moderate, you're simply wrong; not sure why, but you seem to be missing some basic details on how things work. and your definition of extremist is basically nonsense.

If you can't calmly and objectively see both sides like Kwark's post earlier ( i know he's leftist but as a result not extremist) then you are extremist in my book. Full on left/right nut huggers are unbearable to me.

I can see both sides; so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Also, that's not about extremism, but capacity for empathy and understanding. I'm not full on left/right at all. You're simply failing to classify people well, or understand the points they're making.

That's your opinion, im not saying you have to take on my definition but being condescending doesn't help your case of endearing yourself to me lol. You have a different view of it and that's fine. I take the literal meaning of it as in far from the centre. If you only can see from either left or right, you are "extreme" in my books. as I said i've dropped it, you guys are too smart and better opinions then me hehe xd

the problem is you're applying that label to a lot of people who can see the other side. I wasn't trying to endear myself to you; it's one of the known limits on my capabilities.

So what exactly makes you think im not a moderate when ive posted nothing pro left or pro right, I was curious why you said that

You seem to think that making the appeal to moderation (which is a borderline fallacy) makes you a moderate. No, that just makes you disinterested. A moderate is someone that doesn't swing in the same side on a large majority of issues, not someone that assumes by default that each side's position has the same merit on any given topic and the answer is in the middle.

The progressive wing of the DNC. The freak the fuck out about not getting what they want, but then don't show up when its time to vote. Gee, I wonder why the DNC ignores them every general election?

Ted Cruz committing career suicide is a step in the right direction. Might have been more convinced if Trump didn't pick someone like Pence as his VP.

There's totally a way she can win, even like this, when the sleeping majority of America wakes up and actually listens to Donald Trump speak.

I am 100% confident to say that the more people that hear Trump speak, the more support he will get.

It's the reason why the RNC was so good for him, people actually tuned in. People who have their minds made up about Hillary get most of their Trump news in the (yes, hate to use the words), liberal media... Which truly does paint him out so unfairly it's absurd.

I think the presidential debates will be very good for Trump and he support.

I think you missed the primary debates if you think Trump can acquit himself particularly well in debates. And there he didn't even have people disagreeing with him.

He sounds his best on a soapbox, and you can't get much further from a soapbox than a debate stage.

Trump destroyed everyone in the GOP debates except Ted Cruz in like 2 debates and Marco Rubio in 1 debate.

He trolled so hard that they just couldn't keep up with him or maintain their balance and message. They were gotten to so hard and it showed, particularly guys like Jeb Bush.

He's going to do the same to Hillary, it is up to her to keep her cool because if she doesn't... her main advantage over him is she is supposed to be the mature and professional adult. She loses that perception and she's in big trouble.

Agreed. If they went full left on civil and women's rights, the DNC would implode in the span of one election.

Just so folks know, no signs were allowed to be brought into the hall, all the signs you're seeing (that aren't pro hillary) were smuggled in.

That's one of the things I was talking about

And you're right, it is illegal and breaking the law, but some things people will care about more than others. The shit Hillary did like make up being under sniper fire and all this silly stuff... Criminally it's not that bad, but that's a garbage person to me. Who would make that shit up?

I'm not justifying smoking weed, prostitution, or pirating a movie... If someone important did this, it personally would not matter much to me, and they are "crimes" that I don't think make someone unfit to serve the country. Just my stance on the subject without giving it much thought, and having a simplistic view on the matter.

Everything bad that Hillary did I view as very unethical, even being so clumsy as to use her private email, or essentially rigging the election.

And these debates won't be primary debates. You can't just make fun of people and say you are going to build the best wall over and over. Independent voters won't go for that.

Also the moderator isn't going to just sit there and ignore key questions like the ever shifting ban on Muslims or leaving/not defending NATO nations. Trump does not like being challenged.

The average viewer doesn't know anything either. What matters is appearance. What matters is what the viewer sees and perceives. Trump dominated these aspects of the debates, and I fully expect him to do the same this fall. And you're kidding yourself if you think that the general electorate is any less susceptible to these forces than the republican primary voters. Everyone loves a good alpha male.

It's ironic I think the democratic party is so much more divided at this time despite the fact that Sanders endorsed Clinton, whereas the republican party is so much less divided in spite of the fact that their front-runner up Cruz refused to endorse Trump

To be fair, that isn't 100% a fair comparison because a lot of the prominent anti-Trump Republicans sat the convention out.

Yeah, they weren't children about it.

Solid chance that I'll be a Republican in 20 years as I get slightly more conservative and the conservatives ditch their stupid wing.

If someone stands up against something you agree with, they are being children
If someone doesn't stand up against something you disagree with, they are being children

So don't stand up for what I believe in unless it aligns with you, otherwise I'm acting like children

People seem to be unable to disagree or debate in an adult manner. I call people children when they act and sound like children. It's a pretty easy distinction to make, unless of course you're a child.

"No TPP" chants

There are just so many factions in the democrat party right now all fighting for what they want and pissed off that they aren't being given the spotlight

There is no way Clinton can win in November like this when you compare to what she's up against

The convention is a complete circus right now and makes the RNC look tame and unified in purpose by comparison

You realize he doesn't actually know anything, right?

The average viewer doesn't know anything either. What matters is appearance. What matters is what the viewer sees and perceives. Trump dominated these aspects of the debates, and I fully expect him to do the same this fall. And you're kidding yourself if you think that the general electorate is any less susceptible to these forces than the republican primary voters. Everyone loves a good alpha male.

Whoa there, you talking down to the general population? That is the left's job. And Trump didn't do that well in the debates. But there were like 8 people in each one and they all sort of sucked in their own way.

The worst thing that could happen to Hillary is if the debate moderator(s) get into it with Trump... Trump is not Mitt Romney. He will not back down and it will play right into his message that the system is rigged and that Hillary is so unfit, she can't even debate without having the moderators rig it for her by openly taking her side.

Hillary and Trump are essentially tied with independents, Hillary had a lead she has lost... most of that is probably the post-convention bump, but Trump's message is not overwhelmingly unattractive to independent voters. She wasn't leading with independents by 20+ points or something, more like 7-10 points, and now it's within the margin of error.
