To be fair, that isn't 100% a fair comparison because a lot of the prominent anti-Trump Republicans sat the convention out.

Yeah, they weren't children about it.

Solid chance that I'll be a Republican in 20 years as I get slightly more conservative and the conservatives ditch their stupid wing.

If someone stands up against something you agree with, they are being children
If someone doesn't stand up against something you disagree with, they are being children

So don't stand up for what I believe in unless it aligns with you, otherwise I'm acting like children

People seem to be unable to disagree or debate in an adult manner. I call people children when they act and sound like children. It's a pretty easy distinction to make, unless of course you're a child.

I mean the thing that pisses me off is that I could vote for hillary is she said she was going to support and continue the policies that she supported and helped when bill clinton was in office. Everyone could come togeather and say "hey those days were really fucking good right lets get more of that yeah?" But instead theres nothing like that and we get this shitty campaign that no one has anything positive to say about hillary other then "not drumpf"

Its because Trump doesn't talk about policy beyond "I will break bad deals and make better deals. I will make all the deals and they will be great. The jobs are coming back." Which is cool if you don't think about it for more than a minute.

It's pretty funny--people talk about how mismanaged Trump's campaign is and how it reflects poorly on his ability to "find the best people". But Hillary's campaign has to be astronomically more mismanaged if she actually manages to lose this election, given how much of an advantage she started with.

Agreed, though while I think those policies would be alright, Bill Clinton might be a bit unfavorable at the advent of TPP and all that, and Trump complaining about NAFTA all the time.

Unfortunately (depends how you look at it), all that the Democrats have going for them is the never Trump, and I truly believe that once more people get some more exposure to him in debates and just general care... They'll be like hey, this isn't the monster hitler that wants nobody but the 1% and white men to have rights, and they'll jump on board.

I think the more the DNC tries to vilify him, the better it will play for Trump, because while he has so undesirable traits, he's so god damn far from the current description that they are trying to make of him.

Conservative fiscal/tax policy can be soundly criticized from the perspective of entitlement programs and their economic impact. Federal programs are particularly good at delivering certain kinds of products/services, particularly healthcare, retirement, disability insurance, food assistance, and environmental protection, among others. Most of these, as an aside, have disproportionate benefit to the most vulnerable members of society, be they the poor, the elderly, or the disabled. The long and short of why has to do with various market distortions relative to the product/service being provided, but in the end, it can be reasonably argued that the government is the appropriate vehicle for the societal provision of those entitlements, and, accordingly, a tax policy that properly funds said entitlement programs is preferable to one that does not.

It is from there that I can justify voting for Democrats and will continue to do so

This is a solid list and Trump and the RNC support none of those.

The convention is a complete circus right now and makes the RNC look tame and unified in purpose by comparison

There's totally a way she can win, even like this, when the sleeping majority of America wakes up and actually listens to Donald Trump speak.

I am 100% confident to say that the more people that hear Trump speak, the more support he will get.

It's the reason why the RNC was so good for him, people actually tuned in. People who have their minds made up about Hillary get most of their Trump news in the (yes, hate to use the words), liberal media... Which truly does paint him out so unfairly it's absurd.

I think the presidential debates will be very good for Trump and he support.

I think you missed the primary debates if you think Trump can acquit himself particularly well in debates. And there he didn't even have people disagreeing with him.

He sounds his best on a soapbox, and you can't get much further from a soapbox than a debate stage.

Trump destroyed everyone in the GOP debates except Ted Cruz in like 2 debates and Marco Rubio in 1 debate.

He trolled so hard that they just couldn't keep up with him or maintain their balance and message. They were gotten to so hard and it showed, particularly guys like Jeb Bush.

He's going to do the same to Hillary, it is up to her to keep her cool because if she doesn't... her main advantage over him is she is supposed to be the mature and professional adult. She loses that perception and she's in big trouble.

Trump didn't get a substantial poll bounce from any of the debates as far as I know, so I don't know why you think he destroyed them (bar silly online polls about who won). Most of them consisted of people "foot-in-mouthing" their way out of the election.

I guess I just feel like the debates were always about "who lost" rather than "who won."

I don't think he did much trolling of other candidates either. He was generally pretty subdued during them actually, no huge slam dunk sound bites came out of him-those came from Christie if they came at all.

As you say later, the biggest pitfall will definitely be if the moderators take sides (like they clearly were in some of the MSNBC debates) which allows Trump to monopolize bonus time and force one of the few messages he can talk at length about without struggling.

The RNC is against all of those things. They might back off of social security, but everything else they oppose. The vow every election to overturn Roe v Wade.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Tim Kaine is on the side of "cigarettes can kill you and Disney probably isn't a liberal feminist propaganda machine". That's a +1 too imo.

More than a few of those extend beyond just Trump but to the Republican agenda at large.

Saying he'll tear all of it down is a gross exaggeration, but basically any Republican government would do more harm than good to the "progressive movement" given the state of the party.

To me, you're either voting for hillary because you rather ignore the insurmountable corruption surrounding her and her clinton foundation, focusing on feelings or you vote for trump to fix said corruptions and remove her taint from DC

I think a lot of TLers are split on EPA and the environment.

I think that the status quo, or a little bit less environment protection than currently is ideal (for me). I don't expect Trump to tear down all environmental policy, and will repeal a couple acts, leave and be less eager to join some international conventions like Kyoto or Paris, etc.

? Trump and the Republican Party are against these acts and reforms. They actively campaign against them, and they regularly threaten to remove them (or try to). It's not fearmongering; it's completely appropriate fear.
