ROSELLE PARK, N.J. — A New Jersey city council's decision to add the word "Christmas" to the name of its tree-lighting ceremony prompted one council member to step down because it "turned it from a non-religious event to a religious one."
Charlene Storey announced her decision just minutes after the Roselle Park council approved the change Thursday night, NJ.com reported. She later rescinded her resignation, which was supposed to take effect on Jan. 7, the newspaper reported.
Storey, who was raised Catholic but describes herself as a non-believer, said the town's decision to change the ceremony's name from "A Tree Lighting" to "A Christmas Tree Lighting" favors one religion and "cuts non-Christians out of the loop."...
"I cannot in good conscience continue to be part of a council that is exclusionary or to work with a mayor who is such," Storey said in her resignation letter. After rescinding her resignation, Storey said she still disagreed with the renaming and would not attend the event, according to NJ.com.
The story of the "Christmas" tree is quite an amusing one. Just as very few people know what the first "Thanksgiving" actually was or when and why it is when it is (not a coincidence), people would probably be surprised to find out the Pilgrims, which people just got done celebrating, would be appalled by Christmas as it is now, including the trees (might even suggest killing/imprisoning people like the Roselle Park council). Even the Pagans (who originated the tradition of decorating trees for winter solstice, would be upset about all of the tree killing, though they would probably approve of decorating living trees).
The article's even funnier when you realise that their are Christians who refuse to celebrate christmas because they think it's a pagan holiday.

Well seeing as how he is tied/losing to Sanders already in the polls, but millions of voters still don't know who Bernie Sanders is or enough about him to rate him favorably or unfavorably, Trump really only has a shot against Clinton, Bernie would more than likely mop the floor with him.
What's almost inexplicable is just how high the negatives and untrustworthy numbers are for both party's leading nominees.

Best campaign option for Trump, if he wins the Republican primaries, is to say "I lied. You idiots thought I was serious?"
He's probably the only politician who could actually do it, too.

I'm still of the opinion that there is a 50/50 shot that this is the plan all along. D:

If it comes down to Trump or Hillary you'll be voting Carson? It's a bold move, let's see if it pays off.
I really Can't stand either Trump or Hillary. Both are so corrupt and self-serving. Thanks for asking.
Carson through all his eccentrics, seems to be the most honest and caring of all the candidates, taking into account his history of caring for children, top surgeon, etc. Yea I know he has said some strange stuff, ie Egypt, Israel, etc. At least he has been consistent with his religious beliefs.
Trump is such a flip-flopper. I don't believe for a second he is saying anything other than what will get him elected. Hillary is so dirty she makes Al Capone look like Mother Teresa.
Carson's background also talks to me, having started humble, poor, and who brought himself up through hard-work and education. If there is an 'American Dream' among this bunch, it is Carson.
If it Hilary and Trump are nominated... I probably won't vote. I really couldn't 'hold-my-nose' and vote for either of them.

The Republicans have already won, considering that the Democrat likeliest candidate is even further on the right than Obama was.

That is a strange metric for deciding who wins. By that measure, no one wins because Trump is the most likely for the Rs at this point and he is craycray (and also happens to not be very conservative, so I could say the same thing you did switching the parties).
The US Department of Justice will open an investigation into the Chicago police department after protests over how it handled the case of a black teenager shot by a white police officer, according to several reports.
The “patterns and practices” investigation will determine whether the department systematically violates constitutional rights, according to Reuters. No further details were revealed about the investigation.
A spokesman for the Chicago police department could not confirm the civil inquiry, which is expected to mimic those in Baltimore after the death of Freddie Gray and Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting death of Michael Brown in 2014.
The investigation would follow murder charges being filed against police officer Jason Van Dyke in the October 2014 killing of Laquan McDonald. The shooting was recorded, but the footage was not released until the charges were filed last month.
Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Laquan, who was shot 16 times. Shortly after that, the city released the dashcam footage.
While officials couldn’t speak to the more broad investigation that is expected to be announced soon, Chicago police officials told the Guardian that the federal investigation into the shooting of Laquan remains ongoing.

I have a strong feeling it's going to come back like all of the other reports. Something to the effect of "Yeah, they are definitely systematically violating peoples constitutional rights."
As if we are all going to pretend we didn't know decades ago all across the country and we're not way past the point of pretending there wasn't an active denial of reality going on costing people their freedom and their lives.
Trump vs Almost any democrat is comical match up. That man is 80% unfavorable among minorities and like 60% unfavorable overall. The idea that he going to “smash” in the general isn’t backed up by any of the data coming it.
One republican commentator said it best, “Most people don’t sent their lives in stone 6-12 months in advance. The same going with voting.” The polls that Trump keeps winning are head to head polls. Most people are still undecided.
trump is fucking awesome i dont think he is nearly as bad as people portray him to be. Some of the things ive heard about trump is just absurd and i dont know where they are getting it. Its easy to cherrypick lines from a guy that speaks his mind instead of being politically correct at all times and then when hes talking for hours upon hours just chose your quotes wisely to make trump look bad.
