I hope protoss doesn't get that scan ability. It's identical to the terran one, only lasts longer. Anything that makes the races more similar is bad.

I'm excited for this to come out (looks like it is already out in China). However I can't say I'm 100% satisfied with the way Protoss is looking... T/Z seem new and fun, but Protoss just doesn't seem to be improved. I want some more micro intensive units and a fix for PvP (fix warpgates, remove colossi, mothershipcore as a defensive unit)!!

Blizzard should stop removing stuff, it's an expansion, not a contraction.

Of the units/abilities I've seen;

- Tempest looks nice, if you think about how much DPS it can do with that range and a spotter (obs/oracle) then it's actually a pretty nice tactical unit to have.

- I don't like scan, I think a better ability should be something like a buff to another unit's vision radius and allow detection for a limited time, instead of copying the scan ability from the OC. This also makes it a much more viable unit to have late-game for pushes, but means that it doesn't make the observer obsolete.

- Mothership core looked a lot better without move speed; the teleport to nexus ability was really nice, and it created an entirely different gameplay mechanic than what Protoss has so far. Also being able to teleport to a nexus is a lot more defensive than a slow movement speed, since defensive abilities should be very quick to use.

- Warhound is ridiculously strong in TvP and should be nerfed in some respect, the health and damage alone make it a 1-a army on it's own. However I like the idea of having a beefy unit that can be added to the deathball for mech.

- I like the reaper change combined with the fact that it can't do crazy damage to buildings now.

- Locusts are too slow and do too much damage, would prefer to see 3-4 faster locusts from swarm hosts and reduce their health/armor/damage.

Tempest was better with the higher burst damage but longer cooldown - it forced more micro by making each shot extremely important but giving players enough time to position and target fire between each shot.

Yeah, I know it's kinda cheesy :/ but it'd look awesome if the blood lasted longer.
It always bugs me when an overlord goes bang - he doesn't drop blood all over the buildings he's above. I mean heck, Half Life 1 had polygonal blocks flying around throwing blood 10 years ago.

I'm a bit confused about the oracle at this point.

Originally it was supposed to be a harassment unit, but by now all it can do is disrupt the mineral line.. or scan an area or a building (including what it's producing). Finding out exactly what the opponent is doing seems kind of more useful than potentially disrupting mining for a little bit, so my guess is that the oracle will be used in a much more defensive role. And on top of that, it basically does everything an observer does, making the latter kind of useless.

Not to mention that a Terran has to think carefully about using a scan every single time, since it costs a mule, basically. But with, say, 2-3 oracles the Protoss can basically scan all the time, everywhere. Or does the scan only reveal cloaked units and nothing else?

Oh, well, time will tell, I suppose.

I saw a post about solving this by moving the observer elsewhere - can't say I disagree with that line of thinking. Move it to the core and increase build time.

Yeah same here, the infestor feels so awesome because you can get it around lair and it will still be immensely useful late game. Swarm host....eh.....

But if I do get a beta key I'm probably going to try to use the new units as much as possible, even if I lose, just to see how viable new zerg strategies can be (see blizzard I'd be such a good beta tester ;D ).

The more I think about it, the more I realize what idiots Dustin Browder and David Kim are.

Here's the deal, Dustin Browder says, "I don't like seige lines" and "I want to break up the deathball"

Then, he thinks up the 22 range Tempest, but ok, one unit out of the deathball is technically less deathbally according to his feable mind. But what's this? Oracle gets scan! So now Protoss can keep Tempests in the deathball with the Oracle scanning ahead for them. Get 3-4 Tempests for a moving seige line with anti-air Stalker support.

Yup, early forge wall-in straight into Tempests. If you thought Collosi deathballs were boring, this is x100 worse. SUCH GOOD DESIGN!!!!
