This. There will likely be a huge announcement on the TL home page and everything guys, why would you rely on this thread to tell you when the Beta's out?

WoL were going for like $300-$400 on ebay at first, I know I paid $100 for mine off craigslist and got a deal.
Hopefully since this is just an expansion, and not a new game, they will be cheaper. I'd personally be willing to go $150ish, but not much higher than that.
why would it jsut being an expansion make people not want to gouge people for as much money as they can?
the price drops after every invite wave so if your not willing to pay what it is originally jsut wait for it to drop
Supply and demand. I can see people being absolutely desperate to get to play a brand new game, but with HotS, you can play the custom if you are just curious. Personally, I have friends who were absolutely going batshit about WoL, but they don't really seem to care about HotS at all. They can only gouge as much as people are willing to pay. I think (hope?) there will be less people willing to pay outrageous prices.

SC2 has exploded since then and no matter how accurate the custom is theres no way of ensuring your in it against someone of equal skill level unlike the HoTS beta and youd have to wait alot longer then normal for every patch because youd have to wait for the author to update the custom
plus its possible Blizz might even nuke the custom when the Beta comes out to ensure they get people on the actual servers for stress tests and stuff
plus on the Beta youd get better models (?)
so the price of a key will probably stillb e really high at the start and quickly drop down

That explosion is very niche and a lot of those people don't even play the game. I guess we'll have to wait and see. You may be right though, especially for the first day or two. I doubt many will sell at $300/$400, but that could be the starting point.
I really doubt Blizzard would nuke the custom, though. The amount of hate they would get would be off the charts. haha

i dont really think blizz would care, i dont think many people would really string up blizz for punishing people who make there Beta open
i really doubt blizz would do it unless they get some info that the custom is hurting the number of people in Beta

They won't nuke the custom since no one in the right minds would play the custom when the real thing is available lol

I have an AU Blizzard account and I flat out refuse to pay the bullshit Australia rape tax for the sake of ripping us off. I need to know where I can buy a HoTS key on launch day (or close to it) for US pricing. Current online price for Diablo 3 for example is $83.33 US for the digital version of Diablo 3. No doubt HoTS will be 40 to 50 in the US and 70 to 90$ here :/
Any suggestions? Other than having an American buy me a retail copy and just email me the key?
CAn`t you fake you location with a proxy, and buy as if you were located in US?
My account is already set as AU now though - as the 'account type' - so I don't think they let you do this.

Why not just make a new account on us.battle.net and use that?

because then how is he going to use his HOTS expansion for a copy of WOL on another account?
Not sure if there's a proper thread to discuss HOTS strategies based on the custom, but I'm thinking that in its current form Terran mech allins will be very strong. I've been doing a 1 rax FE into 4 fact battlehellion/warhound/~40 scv and its VERY strong. Due to the low cost of those two fact units you get the 4 facts out very quick. It hits at 10:00-10:30. I honestly don't know how your opponent could get out enough splash damage to deal with the fucking huge ball of shit you a-move into them. Although I could be wrong because I haven't played against many good players.

A zerg should squee in joy over such a build and go full macro mode. A terran likewise would only smile. A toss might not be that amused unless you actually do a move and he would get non battle hellions before the battle starts. And WoL beta came with roaches that won the game and never get issued a command at all (amove rally points), followed by 60 hp workers doing their triumph marsh every game supported by a few marines. No reason to waste your breath on strategies based on an unfinished game. And do or die strategies look always strong when they are new, because most people don't know on the fly what to do. I mean people said for a long time that a pair of thors immunizes the terran against 200 supply mutas. There is only one thread where your discussion belongs and that is the mod thread itself, otherwise there will be none for a long time, because it would only cause discussions without arguments. Like my statements at the start, that I simply threw into the room without any reason of why a terran would only smile.

in tvp, i think you are refering to that mass thor all in timing instead you do it with mass warhounds instead ?. If protoss sticks to massing ground units they can be in trouble, but if they go that tempest unit or even a void ray and utilize that massive cannon from the mothership core they can defend it so ez. I suspect Voidrays will make a huge return to the matchup in PvT , They are the bane of mech based builds.
In tvz, warhound not that usefull, but if terran does find a badass mech all in. Im sure zergs will find that spinecrawlers covering some swarmhosts will crush any timing.
and in TvT, there is no reason to believe mass marauder wont be at-least pretty decent against warhound/battlehellion. But if they try that 4 fact battlehellion/warhound timing you mention there is no reason to believe quick siege mode + high ground wont rip that push apart or even just a simple banshe open build.
i still see bio being viable, but it definately looks like a mech favored matchup because i dont see the marine being able to survive the battlehellion mid to late game.
I expect there will be alot of Ez wins in the beta, but thats not always going to be because of balance, We need to learn what counters what.
^yeah I guess the question is how many tanks/swarm hosts etc they can get out by that timing. When I played avilo offracing Zerg he had like 3 or 4 swarm hosts which I just scanned and decimated along with his spines and lings. But, his Zerg didn't look too stellar and maybe that was his first time playing the custom. Likewise when I played a Terran who had 3 or 4 tanks, I just rolled it over. When I played a toss who had two voids I still killed most of his base due to the sheer number of units in my ball. Note that as far as Zerg goes, you can at least put a little pressure on with your reactor hellions.

How can the custom possibly hurt their beta numbers when the beta is closed and better then the custom? It has better models, might even be updated faster, match making and more maps. Im pretty sure blizzard will leave the custom alone, it cant hurt their beta in anyway.

Don't forget that we will have Global play and Resume from Replays in HOTS beta too.

i was jsut saying its conceivable but extremely unlikely -.-
is it true that you can not warp to highground with a lowground pylon anymore or is it just building buildings with lowground pylons on highground? what about from highground to lowground? I dont like both changes at all.
how much range does stasis of the mothership have? does it work against colossi as well?
