The Next Balance Patch

Most people at this point agree that the next patch will be the first Terran buff patch in a long time. Before we see what blizzard is thinking of buffing lets look at how some of the previous patches have worked out:

1) Bunker, Baracks time increase- very solid change, made early game vs zerg not as strong. Slightly messed up early game vs toss, especially 4 and 5 racks all-ins.

2) Pheonix upgrade- interesting for sure, reduced chances of zerg going muta after they see stargate. DOesnt come into play that much but is a treat cause of its existance. (rinda like nydus worm)

3) Blue Flame nerf- a good change with only two negatives- mass ling is now wayyy harder to deal with early game blue flame build, and mech is even less viable vs toss cause charge lots kill all 3 mech units with no problem.

4) Ghost nerf- this is the big mess up, ghost needed a nerf, but not the way blizzard did it. THe change made ghosts completely disappear from tvt and tvz (if was used for its snipe there), and in tvp its only for snipe vs templar and emp, old strat of using extra energy to snipe zealots is now not worth the APM.

5) Infestor buff- another big blunder. instead of making couple units slightly strong to help zerg (hydra would be a great candidate) Blizzard super buffed infestor. And now its is nessesary to win all 3 match ups, there is litteraly no game now from z that does not feature and infestors (all-ins dont count). There is no other tier 2-3 unit that is THIS important to its race. (siege tanks for example while staple of tvt and tvz are completely non-existant in tvp)

6) Mule nerf- a great thing that should have been in game from the start, we would need a LOT less balancing, now most tourney already dont have the gold becaus eback in a day mule was op, but now it just makes the game less varried and interesting.

7) Another problem- WHile BLizzard were patching the game, them and tourneys were also changing maps. In affect this meant that cause of so many variables it becomes really hard what disabalnce comes from where.


While excited for the next patch I am very catious because Blizzard might once again just buff 1 unit making it overly important to the race.

Personaly I hope they will focus on the bunker upgrade Neosteel Frame and the medivac upgrade Caduceus Reactor viable.
Those two upgrades have never been gotten in a pro game as part of a build or a strategy and are just wasting space right now. At the same time terran has no unit that is useless and unused (may be reaper qualifies outside of tvt). So making those upgrades usefull and interesting might be a great way to buff terran mid-late game. And i think it is easier to make a new thing balanced and fit in, unlick making an old thing stronger (easier to judge)

they should have tried 35 damage for Snipe, instead of jumping, from 45 to 25.

Ravens need some love so they are viable earlier not just in split Map situations and all-ins.

Yea the title is so misleading. On a side note, would you please explain why Caduceus Reactor should be viable? Terran bio is so strong that with that upgrade, bio would just simply be unstoppable.

How about removing it then and introducing something else in HOTS ? The only use it has is faking cloak which could be done with just about any other upgrade as well. Having 3 totally useless upgrades ( Bunker Upgrade , Medivac Reactor, Strike Cannon ) is just bad game design.

if you keep kiting, they have time to regen, more than once i got killed by bunch of lings with 1 life

Yeah, I think they need a solid buff if only to make people interested in them just like warp prisms got a lot more used after their hp augmentation because it put them in the spotlight.

WHy have an upgrade at all then? Bio is supper strong, thats why the upgrade should be something thats not dirrectly bio buff, maybe repair ray for mech or something.

Pretty sure there wont be a balance patch in WoL. The next balance changes will be made in HotS, sadly we have to pay for an expansion to fix some issues like dealing with mass chargelots.
Anyway what I would like to see in a possible patch:

- Something with neosteel upgrade maybe like you said, P and Z allins are ridiculous and if you can use that to defend it would help a lot.

- Raven cost should be decreased or their HP should be increased. They get sniped so quickly for their cost. Or buff seeker missile, it needs so much time, upgrades and money to get them going. Also a problem is that when you try to seeker they get fungaled so easily and then they are dead.

- Armory cost should be decreased. When you go mech you need 2 armories to match the opponents upgrades but that costs 200 gas compared to forges and evos that cost no gas at all.

- Energy should be removed from Thors and BCs.

Other than that Chargelots should be changed so you actually have to micro them.

Really missleading title. Please change it to "QQ I want terran to get buffed" so that the mods easier can find it, close it and warn/temp ban you for balance whining and so that you can go back to the bnet forum.

Even with the blue flame nerf hellions still 2 shot zerglings so theres no problem there.

Seeker missile should work without requiring a target. Slightly increased range would also allow you to keep your ravens alive after casting a spell (otherwise they get locked down by fungal + infested terran + corruptor). That or make it so fungal doesn't immobilize air units.

That's what needs to happen to make the game more balanced at every stage of the game.

Wait what? I don't see +25 healing energy would suddenly make bio unstoppable and overpowered. It's not like it's not viable already, 100/100 with 80 seconds research time. Most players just don't see the use of getting it..

This is actual a good use. I would say that the game is not as figured out yet as it needs to be in order to make use of those obscure upgrades.

With hellion - banshee openers being popular vs zerg it might be a good investment to go for caduceus reactor as it is fairly common to see a bunch of depleted or nearly depleted medivacs hovering over a bio ball.

In fact, I might start doing that now that you reminded me of it.

100-100 is not that expensive and it will definitely make your medivacs more cost effective.
