I think this is a great idea. Let's contact their sponsors. See how he likes it.
No. If you disapprove of the witch-hunting that's been going on, don't join in.

Louis CK doesn't say nigger or faggot in his standup anymore as a swear word. He has said in interviews that he doesn't because of people that try to justify racism, such as many have in this thread. It's the exact same reason Dave Chapelle doesn't do a TV show anymore because of people like you (he also found people laughing at the wrong parts and were using it justify racism).
Here's Louis CK in his TV show explaining his rationale (Begins at 4:50):
The etymology of the word "faggot" is incorrect, but the underlying point of its offensiveness still stands.
Which is why I said that Louis CK is completely different from Destiny.
Destiny is literally trying to defend his racism with bullshit excuses, the problem is the his fans gobble it up and don't question it, and then just ape what he does.

Nice first post on TL.
The answer is 0, because cracker is not offensive, and white people just laugh if you call them a cracker.
But it is a racial slur none the less, sorry to break it to everyone. Just because most people aren't offended by it doesn't mean it should be used, isn't that the lesson we're trying to teach here?
Let see.
Nigger - used as a racist word for black people who were slaves for hundreds of years Gook - started in the korean war, but mainly used against vietnamese soldiers that US soldiers killed Cracker - kinda funny word that doesnt mean anything besides the similarity between cracker color and skin color of white people
I'm an asian and I find it funny if people call me any sort of asian slur. Like slant-eyes.
The way you've defined the words above are your interpretation. If you say that "racist words" shouldn't be used, you have to be consistent.
There isn't a deep history of racism against white people in the world. That's the obvious dichotomy here, and that's precisely why society defines the words the way they do.
Again, many of you keep arguing whether or not terms should be offensive on the merits. This is irrelevant to the discussion. Corporate sponsors simply 100% will not stand for use of these words, no matter what you or the player thinks. It's just common sense to not have someone who is a prominent figure in the community or a representative of your team use them.
I'm not sure why TL unlisted Destiny for 30days :/ that seems like a bizard move... has its not like the orb nonsense where he was trying to come acorss as someone else who wasn't openly offencive etc etc... and I do think its pretty sad that people feel the need to email companies asking them not to support certain players simply becasue they don't like them, or the things they say
I really feel like Destiny is someone the community needs, without him the 'section' for troll/abusive and rude streamers would be basically children trying to be more and more rude in order to get more and more hits, but with Destiny there is basically a yard stick where simply being rude and troll like wont cut it and you also need to have some sort of inteligence... and its what seperated SC2 players for the most part from the HoN and Dota communites...
I'll conitune to support Destiny and watch his streams and I'm glad that despite all the haters that he is still able to make money from doing what he loves.
You don't think that happens on the court or on the field? May not be as harsh as calling a player "nigger", but there's definitely shit talking in the sound bytes. Only time players get into trouble is if it's recorded somehow in text or on tape.
Wrong. Luis Suarez was banned for eight matches for racial abuse earlier this year on little more evidence than the word of an opposing team member and the fact an FA panel felt that his testimony was the weaker of the two.
John Terry is due in court on a similar racism charge, with only a little extra evidence.
Offensive language like that is taken very seriously from public figures in sport. As it should be.
Wow so a few suspension from games in real, physical actual professional sports equates to getting a gamer fired, or forced to resign from his team. When did e-sports get so big that they can afford to do this?
Actually, because eSports is so small that they have to let go of players. "Big" teams can't actually "afford" to literally lose a player. Destiny on the other is not the lynch pin of the profit earnings for Quantic--and so they can let him go if things look dicey.

ahh the hyperbole from people who are offended at people who got offended.
It's not really a hyperbole--it's more just selfishness. If it doesn't bother them, then it shouldn't bother anyone. If it does bother them, then it should bother everyone.
I'm pretty certain most of the people who are against Destiny right now are not offended by the word gook. They're offended by racist behavior. So Destiny calling someone a gook did not offend them as much as Destiny maliciously attacking someone with racist remarks.
Why? Because of the belief and understanding that a community must at least try to not be bigoted. It's a philosophical difference.
Most people who are defending Destiny do not do so because they believe that everyone deserves or doesn't deserve to be called gooks. They defend destiny because gook and nigger doesn't offend them and they find it strange that other people might see the world differently than them. It's common in most conservatives in the US.
I'm offended by racist behavior, am I offended by Destiny calling insulting some dude over the internet? No. If he did this at a tournament, then it would probably be the other way around.
Does anybody else feel like those guys that contact sponsors to get rid of people are actually trying their hardest to destabilize the teams? I'm not sure if any of those guys knows what harm he's actually doing

I wouldn't spend your time like that unless... A) it truly brings you happiness (kinda weird?) B) you get paid a decent salary (yeah right!)
Has mailing sponsors ever occured previous to the Orb incident? And does it happen in other gaming communities as well? I`m curious, since the whole phenomenon seems pretty new to me.

I'm not a Destiny fanboy- I don't even watch his stream. I just want consistency- either everyone should face punishment for using hate language or nobody should. it's pretty fucking hypocritical getting someone kicked out of a team if you use hate language yourself.

Don't get me wrong, racism shouldn't be allowed, but we're all humans, and we all got our temper, and using the ban-hammer and emailing the sponsors thus hurting the whole community on the behave of a single player is short minded.
Destiny doesn't say it cause he lost his temper once or twice in the heat of the moment. He says it, defends it afterwards and refuses to apologize. There's quite the difference.
It's intentional and without discretion.
And yes, there is a big difference between just generic insults and racism, although I think any sponsored player would be wise not to rage at people.
If you get mad from destiny calling you a nigger, you are taking language too seriously since its not actually racist and you need to desensitize yourself to this stuff; if you are offended you are weak
If you don't get mad from destiny calling you a nigger, it shows that he is right and his philosophy is working and that he is spearheading the movement to "take the word back" to make nigger a general insult that won't offend black people anymore

The bigger the sport the bigger the tidal wave of mail. Ask yourself this question--how many letters from Peta do you think big ranches get a month? It's no different in the world of entertainment.

Go ahead, but the most that warden would get is a slap on the wrist, for a couple reasons. First, he wasn't targeting someone gay and calling them a faggot because he knew they were gay. Also, it's a lot more socially acceptable to say "faggot" because the definition of faggot has been blurred recently, since a lot of people are using it to mean "something annoying" rather than a "homosexual person".
There are plenty of gay people who still find the word offensive. I don't think you can talk on their behalf and say that it's OK to use it now. If a mainstream broadcaster were to use the term 'faggot' as an insult do you think everyone would be OK with that? (And yes, I have seen the South Park episode, but to me that was just as laughable as the character's attempt in Clerks 2 to reclaim the words 'porch monkey'.)
If Destiny actually cared about Quantic, progaming, SC2 or other people in general he would have admitted he was wrong and used anger/frustration as an excuse and moved on. But clearly he enjoys being a hate mongerer and a bigot and identifies himself as such.

Yeah, cause he was a racist. You hurt Esports being here.
This community is so sad to follow and be a part of.
He called someone a gook in order to define his opponent as being undeserving of success. Which is the same as saying that since his opponent was asian, his opponent shouldn't have won. Or that since the opponent won unfairly, the opponent was obviously like an asian person. These are racist comments. You (and Destiny) not wanting them to be racist doesn't stop them from being racist.
