This community will never grow if we don't call this kind of garbage out. So you saying Destiny are killing Esports!!? Nope. I'm saying racial/ethnic/homophobic slurs will cause issues with the growth of the community, regardless of who says them. What about a useless post meant to defame a public figure while hidding its true purpose under a political correct theme. I think that would be a greater threat to the community? So if you guys keep up with this we might get to a point where people are so affraid of saying anything becuase of the horde of angry jealous dramaqueens who would rather want to create drama instead of watching starcraft games.
I don't think this post is doing anything more to "defame" Destiny than he does himself. I fail to see how a thread that has a premise of "hey look what stupid thing Destiny said this time" is so much more damaging than the original act itself. You're basically agreeing to the premise that what he says is derogatory, but disagree with this thread because it will shine more light on the issue.

This community will never grow if we don't call this kind of garbage out. Agreed. Starcraft community used to be well mannered and respectful, at least for majority of players. What the hell happened and why is this acceptable? I'm not talking about only Destiny, but all this BM that plagues battle.net nowadays.
I'd rather weed out the trash out from our community by reporting the players than ignore/listen to all that bullshit. If we continue like this, even less players are willing to play or are willing to give SC2 a shot due to awful game community environment.

Seems like most people don't care what Destiny says because its"Destiny". Kinda funny when you compare this to the Orb thread....

This community will never grow if we don't call this kind of garbage out. Some of us actually live abroad in a foreign land with many races in a super enclosed community and find slurs used in a manner like this quite trivial. "the rest of us" do not all agree with you. I live in an area that is fairly diverse. Racial slurs are a huge deal. I'm curious as to where you live if you say that's not the case there. I live in a rural, redneck town in Virginia that has a fairly diverse population, lots of hispanics, blacks, and whites, with some asians. Its not an issue here. At all.
Congrats, its not a big deal in this area you live in. I guess the entire internet should also operate the same way. After all, the internet is very localized. And lets not forget how sacred racial slurs are. If we don't have racial slurs, what DO we have? Give me racial slurs or give me death!

Orb says nigger, loses his job.
Destiny says gook, everyone ridicules the 'victim'.
Don't get me wrong, I think both are fucking nothing, especially in a ladder game, but this is double standard as it's finest.

Aaaahhh.... now I understand. Its ok for jimmy nobody to be a stupid racist, but its not ok for a known person to curse around openly.
Interesting... but somehow thats EXACTLY how the world works. It doesnt matter if millions of people are assholes and vote or support xenophobic parties/politicans but I DOES matter if one of them is famous.

I live on an army base near many other bases in Japan. I grew up with many kids that I known throughout the years of all races and in turn we see each other as people. I know its something that many people are not going to have the chance of doing but because of it racism is not a big deal. I'm aware that 99% of the people in Japan are Japanese but I am around quite a bit of the 1 %. If everyone had this view of everyone just being people and taking racial slurs lightly things would be much better around the world. Its taking them seriously that causes death and turmoil.

The simple response of "who cares?" has to be the most unprocessed, extremist conservative thing to say. How can you honestly say that these things do NOT matter? The ignorance in America + Show Spoiler +and other places I suppose surrounding topics such as racism, and the pushing away of minority groups is something that has been incredibly prevalent for so long. Yet, in 2012 and beyond all odds, we’re still spewing this same aggression towards people in the same manner, and still for no reason. Moreover, this is being done on a professional level, and in a game. Blows my mind. and edit: I think people who get made need to make the differentiation between the race or what is taken advantage of, and their opponent. Get mad at what you lost to, not the person >< My friend, you are extrapolating too much from this. In no way, shape, or form (or alternate universe) can the language usage of some slightly racist, moderately popular figure, in a largely unknown, niche sub-culture, be applied to the universal 'ignorance of America ... And other countries, too.' The words are ugly and horrible, yes. We have Free speech (thank god)and he is free to exercise that, but I reiterate again, that he will eventually be the victim of his own actions. Let's agree that the language is deplorable, but also be realistic about his position in the community. He is a non-issue, and if he keeps this up, he will just fade further and further from the spotlight. I agree with lot's of your points. Freedom of expression is EXTREMELY important in democratic societies. That 1st amendment is extremely pertitent to SC2 and the freedom to make a dumbass out of yourself. I do think that professional SC2 players are held to a much different standard. If they professional e=sports gamers want to continue to live a privileged life in the future, they must be held to a code of conduct. I bet QUantic gaming even added a code of conduct clause to Destiny's contract.
THe reason for the code of conduct clause is money. TO make a team wealthy , teams must be able to market their players to a wide range of different countries and ethnicities. Sponsors who are from different cultures must also be assured that a big e-sports Team will be open for sponsorship, not based on ethnicity but mainly dollar bills and fan popularity.
Factors for sponsorship
Team Success Fan Popularity
If some player like Destiny upsets the applecart, offends a Fanbase, Offends his team-mates, and Offends his sponsors, there is really no reason why a Team like quantic should keep him, Unless Destiny apoligizes and gets some kind of punishment for his behavior. Maybe a suspension. I know, the consequenses sounds communist, but that is the reality of e-sports today and Sports in general.

What I disliked most about orb's case is that he basically tried to lie the fuck about of his situation, multiple times and publicly. Destiny doesn't lie, that's like one of his good points (and I'm not a fan of the guy, I don't watch his stream whatsoever or anything...) I couldn't care less about the actual random insults on the internet...

proxy banshee into 1 base push. id curse at you too

I guess we should go lynch Destiny now eh, seriously? These threads really make me sick sometimes, dafuq is with this community nowadays just trying to find ways of getting people in trouble?
I had to Google what it meant and ironically even i'm not all that offended.

I don't think caucasians would like it if Asians called white people crackers to their face. and all the other slurs that come with being of a certain country or religion.
slurs for
Polish English Irish Italians
etcetera
none of you polish, English, irish, or Italians would like it if Desitny directly called you one of those slurs, if he knew you of that ethnicity. So... if someone calls me "nazi" in a computer game again, I should go to teamliquid, post a screenshot of it, then I should head to the police to report him,... or I just ignore the idiot and move on... tough decision. Pretty much this. I'm pretty sure any german speaking person has been the victim of this online at some point.. Just lol and move on. Of course, because he or you or me are just a noname in the society. People don't care about what we are doing. If we say bad word, people will just consider us retard. But if Obama, Justin Beiber say it, people are going to be all over it, because they're community figures. If you say Destiny is not community figure and can do whatever he wants, then fine, let's act like he's not community figure and defeature him. Except that Obama, Justin Beiber never had those impressions set upon them
Destiny had always been OPEN to why he uses those words and provided extremely valid points on why the racial comments aren't racists.
Let's take Ray Charles for example. He represented almost all country/pop music in the 1960s. He was known to get a lot of affairs and took drugs.
Did that stop him from being one of the most genius artists? No Did that make people think pop music in the 1960s are negative? No
Are you suggesting racial comments are worse than having multiple affairs and heavy drug usage?
