This community will never grow if we don't call this kind of garbage out. Some of us actually live abroad in a foreign land with many races in a super enclosed community and find slurs used in a manner like this quite trivial. "the rest of us" do not all agree with you. I live in an area that is fairly diverse. Racial slurs are a huge deal. I'm curious as to where you live if you say that's not the case there. I live in a rural, redneck town in Virginia that has a fairly diverse population, lots of hispanics, blacks, and whites, with some asians. Its not an issue here. At all. Congrats, its not a big deal in this area you live in. I guess the entire internet should also operate the same way. After all, the internet is very localized. And lets not forget how sacred racial slurs are. If we don't have racial slurs, what DO we have? Give me racial slurs or give me death! No, it just shows you how things should be. Were HUMANS. I do not see one race being "white sapiens" or "yellow sapiens". We are Homo Sapiens. Just because the majority sees it a different way does not mean it is right. We should strive to be better, not stay the same.

or I just ignore the idiot and move on... tough decision. If only it were as simple as it being 1v1 without a stream, thousands of viewers(who are prone to crusading on his behalf), a featuring on team liquid, sponsors etc involved. Aaaahhh.... now I understand. Its ok for jimmy nobody to be a stupid racist, but its not ok for a known person to curse around openly. Interesting... but somehow thats EXACTLY how the world works. It doesnt matter if millions of people are assholes and vote or support xenophobic parties/politicans but I DOES matter if one of them is famous. I was saying none of that, not sure why you took it to assume I had. I was saying that it's not as simple as just that as Destiny is sponsored, broadcasted and promoted(right here on TL as a featured streamer). I never said it was ok and I never said anything about politics. Way out of context.

I grew up with many kids that I known throughout the years of all races and in turn we see each other as people. I know its something that many people are not going to have the chance of doing but because of it racism is not a big deal. I'm aware that 99% of the people in Japan are Japanese but I am around quite a bit of the 1 %. If everyone had this view of everyone just being people and taking racial slurs lightly things would be much better around the world. Its taking them seriously that causes death and turmoil.
Yes, a black guy should ignore the group of morons calling him a racial slur and THATS what will stop him from getting beat up and/or killed. I never knew that racism was the fault of the person it was directed at and if they would only grow thicker skin it would stop the issue.
Free speech is based on the marketplace of ideas, and societies responsibility to discern the good from the terrible. I'm just trying to do my part to point out how ridiculous it is to try and condone this kind of language.

This just in: Destiny is hateful and racist. Also, the sky is blue and Flash is "kind of good". More at 11.

I can't believe how some people are defending him with statements like 'he was always like that so who cares' 'get over it' 'grow up and stop bitching about little thing'. Not to offend who are new to TL but I've noticed most of the people who make these ignorant posts are people under 100 posts..

I prefer having to hear "niggers", "gooks" and "crackers", from time to time rather than knowing that the people who say these words end up being excommunicated.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Do you know anything about Stephen Fry, or do you just have this quote? There's no way he would be okay with someone using racial slurs like "nigger" and "gook". What he is talking about is, for example, people being offended by someone saying there is no God, or making a large banner saying "you can be good without God" and put it on busses. He does not mean it's okay to use racial slurs.
As for it being his personal stream.. yeah, it is. No one has to watch it. But at the end of the day, Team Liquid is making a statement by making him a featured streamer.

The world is doomed, I don't see how half you people can make it through life, every few minutes you see or hear something that offends you. Thin skinned and butthurt is no way to go through life.
But the truth of the matter is, often times of it isn't even real.
It's mostly phony outrage, designed to garner attention or to act self righteous.

Don't get me wrong, I think both are fucking nothing, especially in a ladder game, but this is double standard as it's finest.
Fuck the double standard. We should be striving to not let the same mistake happen again.

This is nothing compared to IdrA calling Naniwa a sociopath, which pretty much disintegrated any remaining respect I have for that guy.

omg...
Are you FourKWarden?
Also, destiny is a racist, suprise... -.-'

Why don't comments like this get warned / banned on TL while meaningful or constructive and opinionated comments receive them?
On topic, I really have to agree that the way he handles his mannerism is over the top sometimes. He uses this "rage" as part of his persona that everyone is to expect, but who actually thinks this is good for the community? I mean, you all thought brazzers sponsoring gaming events was bad, shit like this will never be televised because no one wants to see a butthurt grown man cry on the internet.

Destiny is a joke and so is every clown who defends his childish behavior. Hiding behind "DERP ITS THE INTERNET GET A THICKER SKIN!111" shit is absurd. To anyone with a brain and a mote of sensitivity to the history of blood and violence inherent in racial and homophobic slurs, it's unacceptable.
It's always sad to me to see the defense of this kind of caveman behavior from what is generally a very forward-thinking, progressive community. The defense of Orb and Destiny changed my mind a little.
Destiny is low-minded kid, a couple steps above a child. This isn't going to change his behavior, nor is a slap on the wrist from QxG. He is who he is.

The simple response of "who cares?" has to be the most unprocessed, extremist conservative thing to say. How can you honestly say that these things do NOT matter? The ignorance in America + Show Spoiler +and other places I suppose surrounding topics such as racism, and the pushing away of minority groups is something that has been incredibly prevalent for so long. Yet, in 2012 and beyond all odds, we’re still spewing this same aggression towards people in the same manner, and still for no reason. Moreover, this is being done on a professional level, and in a game. Blows my mind. it's just not america. It's the attitude of caucasian privilege as I call it. I'm not going to flame too much. I don't think caucasians would like it if Asians called white people crackers to their face. and all the other slurs that come with being of a certain country or religion. slurs for Polish English Irish Italians etcetera none of you polish, English, irish, or Italians would like it if Desitny directly called you one of those slurs, if he knew you of that ethnicity. Are you saying i will get mad if someone calls me a polack? or Cracker? lol i dont care, it is just name calling and was invented for making fun of people based on nationality and race. There are black people at my school calling everyone a nigger. These words don't mean anything I applaud you for your tough skin. I certainly wouldn't like it if Destiny called me a gook or whatever I was. that's my angle. If the slur came from some nobody,it wouldn't hurt that bad. But Professional SC2 players who use racial slurs, that is pretty shocking.
Why would you take offense from him? The only thing he does better than you is play starcraft 2 most likely, so why would you take offense from him, but not some random?

Ah, I see. "thin skinned" is the new "politically correct", is it? Or the new "I'm not racist, but".

Just to further elaborate, what Stephen Fry`s quote is about are people being offended with no argument as to why they are offended. You can argue pretty well pretty easily for why you should be offended by racial or homophobic slurs.
