It seems like a lot of people are flaming the OP and telling him to "grow some balls" and "man up" because it wasn't that bad of an insult. These responses seem a bit off topic because it doesn't look like the OP was personally offended by the comments but was rather raising the point of is it good to have someone like this (who basically is an asshole) representing the SC2 community to outsiders.
It's hard to say, I mean if Quantic and their sponsors are OK with representing him that's their decision to make clearly. I don't think you can shift the responsibility to make that decision to TeamLiquid or Twitch.tv though because that is bordering on censorship I would think which is dangerous.
I personally feel like lashing out in this way is a bit immature and represents our community in a negative light to people outside of the community and wish that people like Destiny would have a more professional approach to their craft. That being said, I feel like Destiny isn't necessarily the first exposure most people from the outside would have to the world of SC2 so I don't think it's as negative of an impact as most people would think because even though he's sponsored by a team he's never televised. I've never seen him on a stage match at an event and even if he was I have a feeling that he wouldn't say some of the same things that he does on his stream which means that even if he was televised to thousands of viewers I think he would represent himself and his team well.
Most people's introduction to SC2 (at least from my experience) is with major LAN events like MLG or GSL or something which obviously doesn't have the language that people are concerned about on Destiny's stream. If he did ever get good enough to appear regularly on televised stage matches AND brought that same bad language to those matches I would think that would raise an issue with his team an sponsors but since it's primarly relegated to his own stream I don't think it's a big problem at all. Just my thoughts anyways.

Wait what, is it illegal to call jew as for germans LOL. What a clever person you must be. You are even worse than Destiny.

It still makes me a little sick that TL features him. He drops the N word and other racial slurs regularly as well as homophobic slurs.
Just write to Quantic's sponsors and hope this immature "pro gamer" is removed from our scene soon enough.
He only benches 60 kilo? WHAT A LOSER!
As someone who goes to the gym regularly, I never understood this shit about benching, what's so cool about it?
This thread has basically just turned into people being apologists for racial slurs because they like Destiny, and the rest of us that think that's insane.
This community will never grow if we don't call this kind of garbage out.

Clever enough to not use the word illegal. You missed that part.

So you saying Destiny are killing Esports!!?
Nope. I'm saying racial/ethnic/homophobic slurs will cause issues with the growth of the community, regardless of who says them.
Destiny also used his stream for charity purpose. Note that he's playing ladder to practice. He plays this game for a living. Which means if you pull some stupid all in, you're wasting his time. If that's what he wanted to face, he could play against people who are better than you. Now that doesn't mean I'm a fan of his slurs or anything but he's not a racist and everybody who watches his stream every now and will know.

Some people who bench press seem to rely on it to bolster their masculinity.
I think Destiny partially continues to do things like this because (as shown in this thread), he gets a rise out of people. It was not meant to be taken personally. We're all encouraging him by continuing this conversation.

Some of us actually live abroad in a foreign land with many races in a super enclosed community and find slurs used in a manner like this quite trivial. "the rest of us" do not all agree with you.
I am amazed that there are so many people in this thread that want to shrug this off, or tell the OP to 'grow balls,' or want to say that this is alright because Destiny is always like this.
The fact that many people are FINE with a public figure using racial slurs like this...this is really depressing.

Well you can put it like that or you can put it like this:
1. People who think race & racial slurs are a big deal
2. People who don't
I think everyone should be allowed to take their own stance. How do you do that = don't watch his stream if using racial slurs bothers you, don't ask his autograph, don't watch his games, be an anti-fan if that's what rows your boat.
In the end it's a long way from using a racial slur on the internet to becoming a racist just like if someone tells you to eat shit and die, it doesn't make them coprophile murderer. What everyone can agree upon is that it's immature and in bad taste.
These days the witch-hunt for the niggerman has gotten quite out of hand IMHO.

yup, it will be dead before the day is over... too bad I wanted to know the announcement from Kespa/Gretech/Blizzard/OGN T.T

We don't need an Orb 2.0 here.
double standards at its best!
Except EG (read as: Alex Garfield) apparently wasn't aware of orb's prior offenses. Quantic is aware of Destiny's stream. EG supposedly never would have signed orb if they had known orb's personality. Quantic feels it's acceptable to hire Destiny, even given his *colorful* personality.
I'm not saying that Quantic is necessarily less professional than EG (hell, IdrA is on EG, right?); I'm just saying that different things are being considered for individuals when they're added to a team's roster. When a team adds Person A, they assume they're going to get X, Y, and Z. If they get something negative that they didn't expect, that could be a dealbreaker. Quantic surely expected negative backlash at some point from Destiny's stream, especially after the orb scandal. EG probably didn't expect such things from orb in the first place, especially since he was just being added as a caster.
So perhaps it's a double standard when talking about ignoring or acknowledging racism, but it's still important to distinguish the difference between expecting negative attention from one of your players (and being okay with it in the grand scheme of things because he- overall- does more good than bad for your team), and getting unexpected negative attention for your team.
fair enough. however,
should the team/community accept racial/ethnic slurs? i mean where do you draw the line right?
Oh I agree with you.
Which is why I'll post the same YouTube video I always post and then comment underneath:
While I don't think we should be reinforcing racial slurs and telling people to go around saying them, I think we should also show maturity by just ignoring those who are uneducated enough to call people stupid faggots, dumb niggers, and idiot gooks, while they hide behind computer screens. I don't think that reinforces the problem; I think that whining about it only fuels the fire, especially when we're dealing with adults who aren't going to change their behavior, rather than impressionable children.

surrounding topics such as racism, and the pushing away of minority groups is something that has been incredibly prevalent for so long. Yet, in 2012 and beyond all odds, we’re still spewing this same aggression towards people in the same manner, and still for no reason. Moreover, this is being done on a professional level, and in a game.
Blows my mind.
it's just not america. It's the attitude of caucasian privilege as I call it. I'm not going to flame too much.
I don't think caucasians would like it if Asians called white people crackers to their face. and all the other slurs that come with being of a certain country or religion.
slurs for
Polish English Irish Italians
etcetera
none of you polish, English, irish, or Italians would like it if Desitny directly called you one of those slurs, if he knew you of that ethnicity.
Are you saying i will get mad if someone calls me a polack? or Cracker? lol i dont care, it is just name calling and was invented for making fun of people based on nationality and race. There are black people at my school calling everyone a nigger. These words don't mean anything
I applaud you for your tough skin. I certainly wouldn't like it if Destiny called me a gook or whatever I was. that's my angle. If the slur came from some nobody,it wouldn't hurt that bad. But Professional SC2 players who use racial slurs, that is pretty shocking.

I live in an area that is fairly diverse. Racial slurs are a huge deal. I'm curious as to where you live if you say that's not the case there.
