I did a search for "pause trick" and came up with nothing, and I have only seen this done a few times, and this is the first time I fell for it, so I guess it's not a huge issue and it is at the core, my fault due to carelessness, but I think this is worthy of discussion as it plays into the whole idea of sportsmanship as a whole. If this really belongs in the general starcraft 2 forum and not in strategies, my bad, it seems like it belongs here more than there. Hopefully I can bring this into the light nobody else falls for it.
Here's what happened:
Ladder 1v1 game PvZ on shattered temple (zerg named Offwhitefox, he's a dick), he fast expos with 1 spine and a bunch of lings, I go in with hidden pylon at the bottom of the gold third and 4oblitergate his expo. Player rage quits and I leave.
At this point I see the message saying I left the game at the bottom and it goes to score screen, I lost, damn, which is weird because I saw the message right before the menu popped up saying my opponent had left the game.
At this point I did a quit search on google and TL to find out what exactly happened (the replay doesn't show the menu or "all" chat so I was a little lost as to what happened), and the tactic is well thought out:
1. Do a risky tactic (fast expo) 2. If about to lose type "has left the game" into the chat box 3. Hit pause 4. send message
If you do it fast enough, the text appears as the menu pops up, and when paused the chat name colors are muted (instead of red the chat name appears aqua like the rest of the text) so it is very believable if you are tired or not focusing, at least compared to typing "has left the game" and then pausing it. Now i know how important it is to look for the brackets in the name and make sure it's the victory menu.
I've seen this done less convincingly but tonight it was done so smoothly, If I had waited a second I would have noticed it, but how often do you stop to think before clicking view score screen at 1am?
Really it was the lack of color in the player name in the chat that made me fall for it, as that is a key indicator of chat, and not game notifications, why the heck does it do this?
Has anyone had this happen or fell for it? Has anyone here done this for a possible free win? Should this be considered "cheating" in the broader sense (it's not really hacking) or is this just worse players taking advantage of an occasionally over-eager clicking hand?
**Blizzard needs to make an "are you sure you want to leave this game: Y/N" pop up window to prevent this imo**
And yes, this is my first contribution, I hope I didn't butcher it. I'd post a replay but considering the relevant parts to this trick aren't shown in the replay I don't think it's needed.

I had someone did it to me before but I just didn't bother with it. Usually I don't quit until I see they actually leave the game because sometimes they would wanna talk the game through with me on what he did wrong etc or they would just rage and bm which are usually quite amusing

No, you just got befuddled by this trick that is pretty easy to point out. Unless it says score screen they have not left the game (usually, I think there is a bug currently out though), also, there is a distinct voice that says "game paused" as it occurs, so unless you play with no audio or loud music, you can use that to benchmark it. Also I think it indicates that you are victorious ingame (idk I do not really pay attention too much) if so you can look at that also. Calm down, it is only one game.
Edit: Nevermind, when you win it is still always Score Screen, it is only buggy if you want to surrender where it can be Quit or Surrender.
Edit 2: I guess a fix wouldn't hurt anything though.

Don't click View Score Screen. When you're ready to leave a game, use keyboard commands; F10 and whatever the Quit one is, (Q?) Whichever key it is, it's different from how you surrender, which is F10 + N. Clicking the menu button is a habit that leads to things like this trick working.
Oh yeah, and like others have mentioned, you don't need to call up the menu yourself at all if you've really won.

LOL, this happened to me just at the beginning of season 3, it SUCKS. I was sooooooo mad afterwards. Especially since the gay I played was a dick (called me an all-in fag). I agree, you shouldn't be able to type "has left the game!" because its just really confusing.

I think it is a neccasay change to ensure that it wont happen to me again.

I had a game happen where he paused then left the game. Apparently, the game doesnt register the win until you unpause so if you f10+s for score screen, it surrenders instead.
Not sure if he got the win but i certainly didn't
