I don't think I've ever used a keyboard that clicked in that manner, I'm used to a straight linear keystroke. I think I'm going to invest in a 6gv2. Thanks for all of the good info here.

You can feel and hear the click both when pressing and depressing the key, but in normal use you hear/feel only 1 click per keypress. It happens half-way (travel distance of 4mm, key actuation at 2mm). Browns also take slightly less force to register the keypress, some people find blacks a bit stiff for prolonged gaming / typing sessions.

Nah, but it is one difference. Blacks need quite a bit of force to push down while brown needs just about nothing (45g). Even people with blacks tend to agree that it isn't ideal for typing. FPS players favour blacks though, because it's much harder to accidently press a key you're not intending to press. Tactile doesn't refer to the click either, blue switches are tactile AND clicky, while brown switches are simply tactile. It's like a tiny bump that tells you when you pressed the key down enough, most tend to prefer to have a tactile rather than linear switch. I have a keyboard with brown switches and it's more or less silent unless I bottom out the keys (which I do a lot, but that's besides the point).

I mean, I spent 15 years typing on membrane keyboards without any trouble. Not used blacks either but to put in some perspective; I've heard several people with blacks say it's a bit meh to type on, I have never heard anyone say blues or browns are anything but amazing for typing. In the end though, both are miles better than a $10 keyboard for gaming, typing and.. well, everything.

Technically, yes they do exist; however, in practice they are not a practical option. There were some split mech keyboards many years ago (Apple Adjustable for example) and there are some currently produced ergo mechanicals (Kinesis Advantage Contoured is one). Unfortunately, the old keyboards are really rare, and the currently produced ones tend to have astronomical price tags.

It's $10 shipping to the US (and perhaps anywhere in the world), so the total for a Filco tenkeyless comes out to around $130. That's an amazing deal for such a highly-acclaimed mechanical keyboard. If you're interested, the link is here and a guide to translating PCHome's site is here. Hope this helps!

I have both the Steelseries(black switch) 6Gv2 and the Razer Blackwidow (blue switch) and here are my findings... 6Gv2: I think, this keyboard is is great for FPS or MMO games, because of the constant spamming of the AWSD and 1234 keys, it is good to NOT have the blue's tactile click, however the keyboard layout and the looks is VERY boring i mean cmon this thing looks exactly the same as the $5 generic no brands i also notice the prints comes off quite quickly.. Razer Blackwidow Razer has a long history of making crap keyboards, however the blackwidow product line has redeemed its bad reputations, guys, this keyboard actually looks and feels pretty good and i think this keyboard is best for any RTS games, i'd played starcraft with the 6Gv2 and i notice i'd often hit the wrong keys either because the keys are too heavy and or i had to press the key all the way down for me to confirm key register mentally but i know the key registers about half way. however the blue switch blackwidow is totally the opposite, keys are light and i've made less errors because of it and tactile clicks helps too, noticed an APM gain. This keyboard looks WAY better then the 6Gv2 by far, quality according to the guys at geekhacks, this one are topnotch altho i personally think that the 6Gv2 would last long than the blackwidow lol at the end of the day we shouldn't really care because the key switches are all from Cherry anyways. TL;DR- FPS and MMO games, SteelSeries 6Gv2, 7G is for the rich kids that likes short backspace keys lol RTS games: Razer Blackwidow, or any other blue switches If anyone has Filco Brown please post your experiece and Cherry Brown experience in general tyvm. Cheers You think the 6gv2 looks cheap? In my opinion it looks very clean stylish mean while black widow looks very plastic. Also, there is no thing like "THIS KEYBOARD IS BEST FOR RTS THAT KEYBOARD IS FOR FPS HERP DERP!!" It's all about personal preferences.

Jinro uses black widow. And termit, if you are a very competetive player, the 6gv2 key's are very hard to press, requiring double the activation force of brown switches. They are also linear and have to be pushed almost all the way down, while blues and browns actually activate half way. This is great for touch typing which someone with very high apm will be using. You want to put the least amount of stress on your fingers as carpal tunnel and the ulnar nerve plague professional gamers. With that said it might not make the biggest difference, but i take my hands very seriously and I dont want keys that are hard to press. I also personally find the black switches unusable. It's too hard to press and you have to bottom out the key. I returned a 6gv2 a while back and stuck with my dt35 until I got the black widow. With the blackwidow or with blues you need half the force to actuate the key and it makes a click half way down. And to all the idiots saying the 6gv2 looks cheap because it follows the standard keyboard layout? You want some flashy keyboard that has an awkward shape that will just sprout carpal tunnel? The 6gv2 is like a brick of plastic. It aint goin no where. you dont have to reposition your keyboard every 10 minutes.

First of all, blacks do not require "double" the activation force of browns. Browns are 45g and blacks are 60g. Blues are 50g actuation, but require 60g to get over the tactile bump so they're not much different than blacks. The force required to bottom out on browns and blues is also 60g, so if you're gaming or otherwise bottoming out your keys, you're not going to notice any difference. As for bottoming out, the blacks are actually harder to bottom out because of the linear force required, as opposed to a tactile switch like blues which will have less resistance after the click is felt. Additionally, you feel the click of blues before they actuate, which can lead to you thinking you hit a key but actually didn't, so you have to bottom out more than normal. That is why, for function, browns and blacks are superior to blues, but a lot of people like the clicky feel. There is nothing at all wrong with typing on blacks if you have naturally forceful fingers as I do. Also, for gaming, it feels so great to have no bumps and no accidental keypresses, and you can double-tap much faster than with other keys due to the stronger spring. I would highly advise a serious gamer to look at either browns or blacks depending on your preference, and only buy blues if you really like the tactile response.
