I think a big issue is that Koreans are playing SC2 like it's SC1. You could become a decent SC1 pro just by having good mechanics and memorizing some strict build orders - even if you don't know why the build orders you do are good. In SC1, where certain people really understood the game, you didn't need to understand the game to be good, you just had to copy the ppl who do.

Please please please tell me you are trolling.

Anyways, I guess Koreans just realize that SC2 is not a spectator sport. I guess watching SC2 is not fun for the Koreans who have never played SC2.

I liked "Old style" GSL more, these current matches feel uninteresting and also Tasteless commentating does not reach the level I would expect.

While couple of months ago I was hyped up from both sc2 and bw matches, now GSL has faded away to the background...

Thank god for MSL/OSL <3

People are saying that its the koreans fault because they insist on playing cheesy. Those guys play for money. They do what works and what will win them games. They shouldn't stop cheesing because its less entertaining for the viewers, they should stop cheesing because its not as effective, which is currently not the case. That is the fault of a poor map pool and a lack of a real defenders advantage. Don't blame the players. Thats just ridiculous.

As it has been brought up a couple times in the thread already IF Blizzard were to increase the size of the maps then would protoss be WAY too strong due to warp in mechanics allowing them to simply warp units in all the way across the map completely dismissing the entire idea of expanding the maps to prevent quick games.

Gom needs to re think the structure as well. No one understands the current system. I honestly think that the old tournament was better- more interesting at least. I might care more if I actually understood what the hell was going on.

They've really screwed the pooch here with this weird-ass system. Why couldn't they just keep having GSLs like before? Why the fuck should I watch code A when there's a code S? All of a sudden half the matches are like minor league games so I don't care. And a bunch of the fun is gone from code S because there is no hope for people to come out of nowhere and win it. There's no fun to see if maybe Incontrol can get anywhere, for instance, since he's not even in code A yet. I bought the first three seasons no problem but I have no desire to buy the current season. This complicated walled-off AND COMPLETELY UNPRECEDENTED system is awful and they should just scrap it and go back to the previous one.

I saw this coming a mile away. Blizzard is really clueless about e-sports.

you know to everyone who are complaining about the new system, they literally announced how the GSL was going to work when they first announced it.

some of the games in season 3 (I haven't seen 1 and 2) have been VERY cheesy and for me not very fun to watch. But so much has changed in the end of season 3 and in season 4 so far. There have been A LOT of great games and I hope that that will attract more and more people.

GSL3 was exciting for me. I haven't bought a gsl4 ticket, but I was more than satisfied with what I got last time.

That said, I was really hoping... no expecting... there to be different maps that would bring a different style of play this time around. Don't claim there's any relationship with the attendence numbers, but I know what the source of my dissatisfaction is.

That's the reason I didn't buy gsl 1, I had no interest because the maps blew! They still suck, I don't want to see the same cheesy shit repeated over and over again. That's one reason jinro is so popular, he is one of very few players -especially terran players - that has an actually entertaining style.

Repeat, the maps encourage dull play and I hate that.

Honestly me and so many others are just so tired of watching Terran in like every game. I have watched every game of GSL with a group of friends and there have been countless complaints between us about how tired we are of watching Terran destroy Zerg with these crazy all ins that are almost unstoppable.

It is very sad to see so few spectators at these GSL matches. It seems there is so much support for SC2 on these forums here, yet it's not transferring to South Koreans for some reason.

I won't believe that until theres solid proof for this. The same could be said for nydus, and zerg taking expansions. Or for having more places to attack with for mutas, or having more places where to drop with medivacs since T will always make them. I simply don't believe that the size of the map would benefit protoss warp in that intensely, if at all. A specific scenario would have to be given to me and explained, and so far I haven't heard anything.

SC2 is definitely a spectator sport.
I love watching SC2, I never watched BW and trying to watch it now after becoming a fan of SC2 doesn't really work.
It's all weird, confusing and crappy-looking.

Maybe the koreans see SC2 like I see BW?

I agree with this completely, right now i just scan the vods looking for certain players + longer videos and certain MUs in hopes of a longer game. Their are no new or surprise players for me to check out, i already know who i want to or don't want to watch based off how they play. I was so excited to see ret play last season, but now hes been shoved into this weird minor league position and has completely fallen into obscurity, i have no desire to watch someone if they never have the chance to win big in the first place.

I think this is just a mind set of tradition versus progression. In all cases when something knew, rather it be technology or games, comes along, it takes a very long time to catch ground and take off. I don't know this for sure, but I would bet that Starcraft did not become such a huge part of e-sports or such a huge part of Korea in six months. Seriously guys, don't rush to conclusions based on 6 months of a game trying to surpass years of Brood War's grip on the Korean e-sports scene.

Too much money still tied to BW in Korea. Give SC2 a couple of years, then judge.

Football, skating, baseball and others are not "spectator sports" either, they are incredibly boring especially when compared to things like GSL.

I have no idea why people keep watching them and yet they do.

And quite honestly I have no idea why you would turn up to GSL arena when you can watch Starcraft 2 games with about equal quality free (or better quality for a price) from the comfortable chair with cold drinks at your disposal.

I find GSL exciting, I will send feedback to Blizzard if I find something wrong with the game, and I will continue to buy GSL because it has taught me a lot. Yeah, even the games that end up crushingly one-sided teach me things.

You know what guys? Fuck this, I'm going to make eSports happen (to quote Day[9]). Here's a list of things you can do:
-Send feedback to GOM to use custom maps in the tournament.
-Send feedback to Blizzard that they should really improve their map pool
-Send feedback to GOM to improve their format. Code A matches were changed from Bo1 to Bo3 because people complained (read: gave feedback) about the format.
-Send feedback to Blizzard about balance issues and take part in Public Test of patches. The more detailed you can be here the better chance there is that the Blizzard will listen to you.
-Take part in communities improving the game and eSports
-Support communities and organizations that make the game and eSports better. For example, the tournaments you like.
-Improve your own gameplay and understanding of the game so that you can validate your opinions. This way you also win more and find the game more fun.

Those are just the things I thought of in a couple of minutes. I find being constructive is a better way to go about things than being a doomsayer. I fully intend to improve myself to be better than 99% of player base.

But right now I don't have time to play SC2. What I will do is watch some GSL VODs of past matches so I can enjoy SC2 even while doing some other stuff.
