Pretty sure everyone is going to use side scrolling with the mouse as well as clicking with the minimap.

Middle mouse is used by most commentators, as it is the smoothest. Minimap clicking for huge jumps is obvious. Arrow keys for replays. Sides for games.

This is going to be true for everyone.

Do you have really high sensitivity or do you go haywire with your mouse hand? Never figured it was possible to play only with the MMB.
Sidescrolling for me.

Usually use the minimap on alerts, but everything else is side screen scroll.

Side scroll like everyone else, but I'd love to use a "scroll ball" mouse (like Apple's old Mighty Mouse) to scroll the map. You get the fine control without he awkward hold-and-move of the middle click.

Hey, clicking on mini map is not scrolling... But since you have that option, how about spacebar/backspace?

I use middle-mouse scrolling with very high sensitivity. It actually allows you to eliminate mouse trips to the minimap as with high sensitivity you can move across the map in a fraction of a second. It also removes the need to move your fingers to the arrow keys. I think it's the superior movement method.

I also disabled screen scrolling.

I use arrow keys sometimes when there is no action, because it's just so relaxing.
But mostly side screen scrolling.

Middle click for local movements, minimap for switching locales. I don't remember what game it was that first got me using the middle mouse button, but since then it has always felt really awkward when I haven't been able.

Do you have really high sensitivity or do you go haywire with your mouse hand? Never figured it was possible to play only with the MMB.

I turned the middle click scrolling sensitivity up to 100% and I play with relatively high mouse sensitivity. I can make it about one half to one third of the way across a medium sized map accurately with one swipe of the mouse using the middle mouse button.

I hotkey everything.. But at the start of the match I side screen scroll. I might use the middle mouse now that I know about it though.

Sidescreen for close stuff, minimap for far stuff, most of the time I double tap hotkeys for my main/army/scouts/production.

Max mmb sensitivity scrolling + pretty high mouse sensitivity. Quick flicks will usually go to naturals and 3rd's, while in-base scrolling is still controllable, but outside of that, minimap clicking.

Screen edge scrolling feels like wasted cursor movement to me.

I wonder if people realise that you can increase the sensitivity of the MMB scrolling option???

Thats what i use and it is in no way too slow, and my mouse doesn't need to go crazy, just deft little moves...

EDIT:

^^ what he said...

Side scrolling for close places, minimap for far places. I dunno, seems kind of inefficient to do it any other way... Middle click goes too fast imo.

my friends hate how i play. I use the arrow keys (although much more in BW) and the side of the screen as well. Im sure it is putting a ceiling on my level of play, but i feel more comfortable with the arrow keys.

This poll surprises me. I had thought that about 99% of people would click around the map using the minimap in conjunction with control groups.

I use the middle mouse the majority of the time, and map click and side scroll only very occasionally.

I've had my DPI set very high for several years. Scrolling from the top to the bottom of Metalopolis is about one inch of mouse movement which still feels like a lot to me.

I'd like to be able to push the slider above 100%

MMB is the superior way if mastered, it is smooth and you can position your view wherever you want at the beginning of a battle without any possible over-shoots or errors.

for me it is due to dota/HoN, so it transferred to SC2 :>
Zerg need heavy buffs from Tier 1 to tier 3, against Terran and Protoss. blizzard needs to get on the ball or lose SC2 as an eSports venue.

I use the middle mouse scrolling almost exclusively for watching replays because in an actual game, I hate having to move my index/middle finger off the left and right mouse button. I guess the people who put their middle finger on the middle button and their ring on the right can benefit from it though.

For people with thumb buttons on their mice, have any of you guys tried setting the click scroll button from the MMB to one of the thumb buttons? I find it slightly awkard to click with the middle button, but I'm thinking that using the thumb might be more comfortable?

sidescroll, double hotkey tapping + minimap for playing, mainly middle-mouse and minimap for observing while casting.

concerning the latter i still don't get why so many casters don't do that and thus have way less than decent observing.

Two of my friends do the keyboard scrolling and it really annoys me. They never use key commands because their left hand is on the arrow screen and it hurts their game but for the life of me I can't convince them to use the minimap and screen edges!
