Dropping this major bomb of shittyness before release of phase 2... Won't be posting on Blizzards forum if this is how it's going to be in the future.

I wonder though, whether or not viewers will still go to blizz forums to view posts and if viewer count drops, whether or not pro players will find more incentives to post there. I've always felt like the current forum system could be made better and am really excited to see what blizz has come up with.

They took something we all loved and looked forward to for 10years and pretty much removed all essential points we liked (i'm not even exaggerating), added useless shit that absolutely nobody was interested in, they are trying to milk us for cash with the region locks, and now they are catering the game towards people that love nothing more than to play Farmville and post about it on Twitter. I, for one, hope SC2 will crash and burn so that Activision will see what happens when they decide to shit all over dedicated fans just so they can earn a few extra dollars. What does a web forum have anything to do with the game... or earning money for Activizard. They have ads on their forums so if anything... this will make them less money with fewer visitors? I dunno? On July 07 2010 19:20 scojac wrote: BOBBY KOTICK!!!!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Quick! Someone do a white pages search on him and go pee on his lawn!

I suppose they would say this isn't releasing information about other players but releasing information about yourself, which doesn't contradict the EULA. Either way, ultimately the decision to give personal information about myself to the public should be my decision, not Blizzard's. All arguments about the possible ramifications of giving out your name aside, ultimately the real problem is Blizzard dictating something that clearly should not be up to them to dictate.

For example: those who are more casual and want to be anonymous and those who are interested in becoming more professional, where it's in their best interest to get their name spread/heard(just like in other professional circles...scientific community or as a business). I mean, pro players now a have facebook, twitter, a homepage, streams, fansites, whatnot, are already transparent. I believe the decision to do this comes with the realization that there are sites like TL which allow for the casual gamer to post their opinion(+ it's modded well(for free?), and we do know they read what's posted here) and the idea that SC2 is built as a cornerstone esport professional game. Blizzard seems to want to expand e-sports and play a more central role. Anonymity is what builds community on the internet. There are a lot of crazy fuckers out there (especially on this site). The last thing anyone wants is that one of these individuals can find out who you really are invade your privacy and harass you. So do I want to report a bug, make a controversial comment about the game? NO! Not when some jackass can just read it and declare vendetta against me, do you? You want to share your real name here? no? I didn't think so.

I was referring to their earlier "implementations" as well, the fact that they are forcing us to use our real names when posting on the forum doesn't bother me as much as their TOTAL disregard for their fans. Basically any requests SC fans have ever presented have been shat on and completely ignored. Not only that they proceed to add shit like Facebook support and other stuff that fans of the franchise doesn't give a shit about.

They seriously don't understand how the SC online community is different to that of Facebook, even though we all probably have Facebook accounts? How are these people are so stupid? Bah.

Some people (like my girlfriend) have a name so unique a google search has the first results pointing to her facebook, myspace, stories in school newspapers, names of siblings/parents/relatives, employer, and possibly addresses/phone numbers. Given she doesn't play sc, I am sure she just as easily could, and then maybe one day post on the forum. The potential for some psycho to do all kinds of crazy sht are endless. She might make a post complaining about terran mech being too good. Some fanboy might get offended, and instead of smashing his keyboard in rage, he can just go find out where they live and stab them in the face.

Hopefully they don't screw up Brood War either. If they do OMG... I'm throwing this game away YEAH MAN, THEYRE GOING TO ADD THESE FEATURES TO A 12 YEAR OLD GAME. You better watch out.... they're gonna ruin BW too!!!!!!!! I laughed pretty hard at Bashiok's response to this whole thing. Posting his real name and then raging really hard when people found out his information. Gotta love this.

I just sigh'd when i saw this. I made up my mind sometime around the last 2-3 earthshattering blizzard-announcements, there is absolutely no way i'm buying this game in its current state. Don't be silly, the game is completely unrelated to the blizz forum. Also they won't be gaining anything out of this move, maybe only in the longterm when people start geting used to the concept. SC2 IS a good game, bnet 2 isn't awesome but it will probabily be soon enough. And i know i for one played bw wc3 and wow for 7 years before i actually posted once on bnet forums, and that time it was for my guilds recruitment thread. It's the fansites that are the backbone of the comunity certainly not the horibad blizz forums you only care about because of that silly anouncement.

Posting personal information on the web is a trend that many many many people follow already. Bnet 2.0 will not be new in that regard. So sadly, BNet forums will become like Facebook. If you value your privacy you don't post there. GG ![]()

If you don't like Blizzard's forums don't post. If you don't like their game don't play it. If you think they are part of conspiracy join some organization and fight it. You do have control over what YOU can do, do you?
