If you don't like Blizzard's forums don't post. If you don't like their game don't play it. If you think they are part of conspiracy join some organization and fight it.
You do have control over what YOU can do, do you?
As others have stated though: Many support aspects of blizzard are done through the forums. Should you seek an answer with their tech support or other types of problems that means now posting with your real name. There are a plethora of reasons this is absolutely terrible and the 1 primary reason for its implementation (supposedly) can be just as easily accomplished another way.

I don't like the "if you don't like it then don't use it !!duuurrr" argument. If I dislike something I'm first going to try to change it. Eventually I'll decide not to use it.
There are so many drawbacks to this idea.

As in "Something Trollish"?
That'd be pretty awesome.
Maybe TL members should make a unified last name as they register new accounts?

I made up my mind sometime around the last 2-3 earthshattering blizzard-announcements, there is absolutely no way i'm buying this game in its current state. It has reached the point to where i don't even care about SC2 anymore, i'm not even angry about all these ridiculous changes because SC2 is not even interesting to me anymore.
They took something we all loved and looked forward to for 10years and pretty much removed all essential points we liked (i'm not even exaggerating), added useless shit that absolutely nobody was interested in, they are trying to milk us for cash with the region locks, and now they are catering the game towards people that love nothing more than to play Farmville and post about it on Twitter.
I, for one, hope SC2 will crash and burn so that Activision will see what happens when they decide to shit all over dedicated fans just so they can earn a few extra dollars.
Don't be silly, the game is completely unrelated to the blizz forum.
Have a look at this.
Sorry to tell you all, you cannot opt out of RealID. Your real name associated with your account seems to always be accesible to YOU. Meaning UI addons can get this information, and easily send it to another user. To see for yourself, paste this code into chat on WoW: /script for i=1,100 do if BNIsSelf(i) then BNSendWhisper(i,"Whisper from myself"); break end end You will see a RealID whisper from your real name, whether you use the RealID system or not. Any addon coder with half a brain will tell you it's trivially easy to go from this demonstration to sending your name to others, or any other number of things. This is NOT opt-out-able.
Basically, it doesn't matter if you intend to stay off the forum or not.

Only thing Blizzard will achieve by this is making sites like TL.net more popular.

Being brainwashed by Blizzard and disliking them for their decisions is contradictory...
Anyway, Blizzard should encourage activity on their forums, otherwise they may as well shut them down. They're close to useless right now and with this decision it'll only get worse since many people will refuse to post there at all...

You do have control over what YOU can do, do you? I don't get this ideology at all. They do owe their customers. All this outrage and people complaining isn't demands for the sake of making demands, the only reason why people get angry at blizzard for all the shit they have pulled recently is because THEY WANT TO BUY THE GAME.
Every person that is complaining is a potential customer, because if they weren't, why would they care so strongly?
in the same that there is no onus on blizzard to provide the things that people demand in their games, there is no onus on the customer to buy their games either.
I want to give blizzard my money, and if they want a better chance of me actually giving them money, they can change/remove/include feature x/y/z.
Right now, blizzard won't be getting my money, and while they don't have to change, they have some incentive to do.

what a great way to start my morning... thank you Blizzard my respect level for you has decreased to an all time low.

I was just thinking how is it that all of you guys are so smarter than Blizzard. It seems like they actually don't know what they are doing reading your comments. They know perfectly well what they are doing and they are getting rid of all the people in the forums that shouldn't be there in the first place.

and almost everyone else who cares about privacy.
I don't understand how nobody at this board meeting could have said something like "This is the worst idea we had since no chat channels."

"But there is nothing you can possibly come up with to argue against an extremely obvious thing: discrimination based upon names. Sorry but not everybody is named John Smith or Billy Bob. "Nobody gives a f**k about your real name"? I know QUITE a few people who will immediately flip their switch and tone as soon as they find out they're arguing with a Muslim or Chinese or even a female. People on the internet are openly racist and sexist and while Blizzard can keep handing out bans all day long for doing that, you are most certainly NEVER going to see the end of it on the forums. Discrimination is morally wrong, but a lot of people's attitudes will never change and there is nothing you can do about it. The issue is deeper than the ocean."

Whoops, misclicked and voted yes (durr).
This is a really, really bad idea. Do not want, ever. I wouldn't mind if it was opt-in/optional but as others have shown, it's not. Is this really legal? Can an EULA really override the law as long as you click the yes button? If so this doesn't seem right at all, I hope governments other than Korea start coming down on this kind of behaviour.

No fret, Blizzard is just conducting a unique social experiment to see how long and what factors are required to piss off a loyal fanbase.

How come a million different forums on the internet manage just fine without displaying the users first and last name?

Giving real name by Bashiok was smart, he doesn't even have to phone for food delivery anymore becouse somebody else is doing it for him, free of charge, and he got rid of his Facebook addiction thanks to it. RealID is awesome.
