Yea, as I proclaimed earlier, I am the only person in the US with my name. Hell, there are less than 600 with my last name.

Speaking of which, hey all, I'm Johnathon Smith. Nice to meet you. Is that so hard?? John Smith. Yeah, no wonder you don't think it's a big deal. And what exactly would your name have to be for it to be a big deal? Its just your name. People should be proud of who they are. Btw, you're one of those 40 year old guys aren't you?
Well I'm pushing 40, but I'm not posing as any 12 yo's that's for sure.
You have a very non-unique name, anything you say online is not going to get back to you. Anyone with a very unique name can easily be tracked by a simple Google search. Whether it be employers, ex's, lawyers, etc. People who work in public jobs (teachers, police, etc) really can't have their full names thrown out there in the same way you can. That's just how it is.
You can say "then don't post on the battle.net forms", but that's more of a cop out than anything. We shouldn't have to be forced to use our real names to post there, especially if we have a tech or support issue we want to use the forums for. IE, using your real name adds no value to users, it only adds value to Blizzard (and this is being generous).

Personally, I have never used, and now never will, the Bnet forums. However, I find this revolting because it spells a larger picture of what their intentions and goals are. Moveover, the resources poured into making the entire world hate them at the same time could have been used to for the things we've been asking for.
Either way... it is an impressive feat... I never thought I'd agree with a WoW-player on anything, but Bliz, you've shown me how foolish I've been.

I always knew I should have put a false name for the battle net account...
Really, as games are seen right know in social environment (dating, school, jobs) I do not like this at all and won't post at all.
Maybe in XXX years when videogames will be considered as acceptable as sport (if ever) socially.
Bad idea, completly terrible.

Thanks for the thought out response man. That actually makes sense.

Two other important reasons:
WOW FORUM USER #1: I am a school teacher. In our district there is an out right ban on Teachers using Facebook and other social networking sites due to pass issues. I am not willing to jeopardize my career for these forums and I would like to say this is the last time I will be posting on them for whatever reason, which upsets me greatly.
WOW FORUM USER #1: This honestly scares me, I don't need this kind of thing happening in one of my few escapes from a real life where I face constant harassment.

Do you guys really think, even if you have an unusual name, that if an employer googled your name, and saw someone that may or may not be you posting on a game forum, could possibly effect your employment chances?
How would they even know if it is you...?
|
Oh and I didn't think about girls players... more free harassment on the internet : enjoy !
Really what is their purpose ?
|
Well it seems like Blizzard isn't going to change their minds about this, at least until the changes are implemented. Let's just sit back and see what happens.

1) Yes. 2) Doesn't matter. You act as if HR people are a rational bunch. They are not. When the economy is crap and they have 50 applicants for a job, if they see your name, wrongly or not, tied to 500 gaming posts, your resume is going in the trash. This is especially true for some of you younger people who don't have a lot of experience in the real world.

Oh yes.
Especially at middle/upper tier government jobs, this is bad.

Apparently I'm the only one with my name in the US as well...except I live in Canada?
Edit: THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! *Highlander theme musics starts playing*

Just to remind folk, in the event that you have an issue with your account (e.g., your lose your authenticator or you get hacked), you will need to provide blizzard proof of identification in order to have the proper action taken on your account. If you put a fake name on your battle.net account, then you will not be able to provide proper identification in these situations. Given that battle.net accounts tie together your purchases of blizzard games, you have good monetary incentive to ensure that you can provide that proof of identification (and thus have your real name on the account) if something goes wrong.

I'd just register my name as "Sloppy C*nt" or something equally vile. What are they going to do, not display it?

I used a partial name on my bnet account, my email I used is not my facebook one, and I don't give a shit about bnet forums. HOWEVER, this is an outright ridiculous notion that Activision/Blizzard is trying to impose. Are they trying to turn the greatest gaming company on earth into the worst overnight or what?

What the fuck is next? Seriously? Do you people even think things through? Hey mr big time shotcaller/CEO you should step down before you run your company into the ground and lose your job you fucking retard

For what it's worth, the person who's specifically in charge of Bnet 2.0 development is named Greg Canessa. He also played a big role in developing Xbox live. I don't know that all of the bad ideas are his ideas, but he's certainly not quashing them, so if you want to blame some one, blame him.

The reason I stopped playing SF4 was because the system and UI IS SO FUCKING BAD.
I love ggpo.net solely because of how fucking simple and easy it is to use. No extra bullshit bells and whistles

Oh god. Dude just delete his phone number. Hes an idiot for "challenging" you to post it but seriously his family is gonna start getting calls and stuff.
They shouldnt have to suffer cause their son is a retard.
