Good find, waiting for the e-mail to set that up. Having my RL friends add me through identifier is a small price to pay to make sure nobody gets all my private info. If only I had known earlier, I could have named myself Mike Rotch or something equally funny.

My B.Net account's name is Giant Cocks but now I'm afraid of getting my cdkey banned if I ever post on the forums or friend someone in game :/

What about racism?
Someone posting on the b.net named Sung Jim Joon, could easily be made fun of for being Asian, or someone named Siddartha could be flames for being Indian, blah blah the list goes on. And knowing the forum's current state, this would definitely happen
Edit: I'm guilty of rascistly making up those names
Edit: The above edit isn't actually an edit

I sort of have a question. When they ask me to enter my name, can I enter anything I want or they actually have some sort of mechanisms to prove I am the person I say I am?

if you disable real id you can't post on battle.net forum after they update them...
And this is just a part of blizzard trying to make a New facebook... all the old fanboys like us will hate this new battle.net, but the new generations will just get used to it, just like people get used to facebook, or myspace, or whatever.
The problem is that they forgot that this is a game... I pay for blizzard games, and i don't pay for social networks like myspace/facebook/etc. A Support Forum/Bug Report Forum/ Feedback forum is something NEEDED, in facebook i don't need to ask for anything in public.
In facebook I have almost 50/50 of female and male friends... in a game i have around 99% / 1% of male and female friends and that implies a lot psychological stuff that I'm to tired to explain.
Anyway, this might work for new generations until somebody goes to jail for stalking/bulling/killing somebody bcz they found their information in a blizzard forum after they didn't gave back their 400usd WOW item.

I believe you can enter whatever you like. However I know to recover your WoW account in some cases they need proof of your identity to get your account back. I.E. you put John Smith as your name on b.net and it gets hacked or whatever they will ask you to prove that you are John Smith, however since that isn't your real name you have no way of proving that the account was yours.

If it's anything that has a billing system, you will have to use your real name (ie. World of Warcraft). In the case of Starcraft 2, I imagine there's nothing to prove your identity, however, as was said earlier in the thread, should you ever need some sort of assistance from Blizzard such as you account getting hacked, you will need to prove your identity with some sort of photo ID or something before they will help you. So if you don't use your real name, you do so at your own risk because if you lose your account, you lose it for good. And since CD-Keys are now tied specifically to accounts, that also means you will need to go out and buy a new copy of the game to play it again.

Has anyone seen a Blizzard post that says whether or not we will be banned for using fake names? And if so, if it's just a forum ban or a cdkey ban?

The official forums have always been a great place to discuss the latest info on our games, offer ideas and suggestions, and share experiences with other players
i never found this to be true in any past blizzard game. does any actually use the official forums for anything other than trash-talk, shoutouts and hairbrained balance suggestions anyways?

I was just trying to check up on this and came up on a really "suspicious" page, where I have to agree to Blizzard being able to monitor my PERSONAL messages (that includes even private messages to someone).
Chat Agreement
In order to provide the Battle.net Service, Blizzard must be entitled to access, monitor and/or review text chat, including private, or "whisper" chat, in the event of complaints from other users or violations of the law. By clicking the check box below, you agree that Blizzard (or one of Blizzard’s affiliates) has the right to monitor and review personal messages you send or receive on the Battle.net Service, or through any game that is playable through the Battle.net Service, to investigate potential violations of the law, the Battle.net Terms of Use, or the Terms of Use agreement specific to any game playable on the Battle.net Service. Blizzard will not use the information for any reason other than pursuing such violations. If I want to even close my Battlenet account I have to agree to this. Also there are asterisks added to the line where I have to click to agree to them being my big brother, but nowhere is any explanation given for these asterisks. If I was suspicious I would say its somewhere on the page in a 0.5 pt font size ...
Blizzard is really heading towards a "1984 big brother" version where they are trying to control everything - even thought itself - like Apple has demonstrated by their control over what goes into the "AppStore" and what doesnt (Newspaper companies have to "water down" their app-news to make them less offending to puritanistic american views, even if they arent used in the USA, just to please Apple and be allowed in.). Its really depressing.

Maybe they want to change exactly that? You can get nice discussions going on, even with your realname. And if you don't like it please cancel your FB account as well

do you really want to use your online alias online?

And if you don't like it please cancel your FB account as well Sure you can do that, but its a bad thing to be FORCED to reveal your identity if you want to take part in a discussion. Lets be honest ... Starcraft - and any computer game - are TRIVIAL things, they are not important for what happens in the world and thus it should not matter who is talking, only what they are saying should!
If they are trying to make the discussion on forums more sophisticated and civil they should invest into measures which improve these things in general instead of forcing people to "behave, or else". That will only make people go elsewhere (and solve the problem of having to pay forum moderators for Blizzard). They should also give all of their games an 18+ rating to stop immature little kids from posting and - more importantly - being offended.

Who cares about trolling in the forums. I want to play the game, not slacking in forums discussing my "pro" strats...

I have send a support messaging to blizzard saying that I don't want my real name to be publicly shared. I'm waiting for an answer. I'm quite curious.

Man, little Bobby Tables is going to have a lot of fun with the new battle.net.

LOL Best Buy and mods on TL were the best

Let's all make new Battle.net accounts for Starcraft 2, First name Bobby, Last Name Kotick.
