At least currently after you DL the patch you cannot watch replays without logging in. I assume everyone else is experiencing similar difficulties?

Does it still download the patch if you don't login?

It's weird because they just changed it to work not too long ago.

I think we're jumping to conclusions.

Legit key holders can't even log in since the latest patch, and I get the same error as them while trying to watching offline replays. I say give it time to really see if the update disabled offline replays.

1. Go to your replays folder. In Win XP it's "C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\StarCraft II Beta\Replays" In Vista/Win7, it's located in a similar place in "Documents", just look for it, it will be there.
2. Enter either "Recent", "Multiplayer" or other folder here to find the actual replays.
3. Double-click on a replay, this should open the Windows dialogue called "Open with..."
4. Do not pick any item in the list, "Browse" for your StarCraft II installation folder (XP standard: "C:\Program Files\StarCraft II Beta").
5. Select "Always use this program" and then press "OK".

Yeah, even doing that won't let you view them atm.

I guess we can hold off and see what happens.

Yes, brilliant. Lets make judgments before there are even patch notes or a working Battle.net server.

Doesn't work currently. We'll have to see after patching is done.

It makes sense that if you don't need BNet to verify and the game is reading local data that you shouldn't need to have the server up to watch replays.

At least to Joe Schmoe, anyway.

i would until people with the actual key can get online before saying anything is final

i cant really see blizz doing this especially since during the cracking process to get the replays they left stuff in there as a type of joke almost since they knew crackers would be raping it

in other words, they expected it to be cracked so i dont see this actually happening

I'm curious how this all worked. When StarCraftII.exe starts up, I assume it checks to see if it can reach some blizzard website to check for updates, and if there has been an update it will then try to download and install it. Unless there is a sc2 background downloader that was added to your pc startup (in which case you could remove this anyway), I assume people who don't have a legit beta key and want to watch replays can just disable their internet connection and then try and load the replay in StarCraftII.exe. I'm not certain, but I thought I was able to watch some replays while offline (no network connectivity) a few days ago...someone confirm or deny?

I have pulled the plug on my internet every time I opened SCII to watch replays, since I didn't want it phoning home for any reason. There's no reason for this not to still be able to be done unless you download the patch.

Although, now that I think of it, replays from the new patch might be incompatible with the old version :/ we'll see.

still works for me. when i load a replay from the old build, it asks me if i want to reload and open the replay in the old build, i click yes, it loads and then i'm in the replay.

i'm pretty sure it was this website that I used to do the crack.

Just watched a rep with no beta key, had minor trouble with updating (had to revert Battle.net folder to original form, and then copy SWF folder back). I created a Replays folder with Multiplayer subfolder and stored replay files there. Now dragging a rep over SC2 executable enabled Open With function of Windows which started the game and bypassed logging in but didn't start the replay. I could open the replays submenu however, and after selecting one replay the game detected that the replay was from previous version. Big surprise - it asked if I wished to logout from battle.net and boot up previous SC2 version to watch it, and one OK button after that and a game reboot the replay worked.

Yeah, but that's basically because the beta client we're using to watch reps bypasses the login phase thus theoretically you are online.

if u mean we needed a crack to watch reps, u just had to dl the client, nothing more. only u cudnt start sc then load a rep, u had to just drag a rep over the sc2 icon, or for some who are lucky the sc2 rep file became properly associated with sc2, instead of not associating at all..

coz theyre squeezing all the money they can get from this one, they invested quite a bit on it. Does not benefit blizzard in any way not to do so.

replays now crash my client

Worked for me also, can someone post a new replay so I can see if that works?

I'm not entirely clear over what he posted - was it the old patch files or something? If so I'm not sure if that's allowed or not... I assumed it was a crack to get replays working but if not, well... Not sure if it's allowed or not. Not like they can stop people from downloading the original client right?
