Mini with 1 gold, 3 silvers, and 1 top4, and Queen with 2 golds and 2 top4 have arguably performed, on average, better than him.

But for there to be another champion, herO must win. In ASL history, only Flash and ZerO have ever defended the title.

No seriously, it's fun to watch actually despite the coin-flippyness, but the short finals suck. They should just double or at least increase the number of games if it's a ZvZ final. Bo11, Bo13, short breaks, just gogogo. Players might take more risks then because there's always another game, and chances for an epic lategame increase. But I'm sure this idea has been pondered before and there's some problem with it that I'm missing. (Possible ultra-long finals mb if too many games actually go past 6-7 minutes)

And even in this final 5/7 (if we count game 7 as well, since it is arguable there) of the games were BOs wins. I am not sure if this is what BW has turned into or it was just this tournament, but I was hoping for more "standard" games with an all in here and there I'm going to go there and say it: ASL never had the best quality games to begin with. Much better quality and more exciting games are being played in other, smaller "starleagues", KCM and Ultimate Battle series as well as The Daily Proleague.

Preparation or lack thereof probably has something to do with it, yes.. but II would say, that much lower pressure of playing offline and with no prestigious title on the line is the most obvious and probably the biggest factor in this happening.

If we get a map pool more like ASL13-15 we will likely see more quality games again. This ASL had some amazing games that were legit peak starcraft, but most games were cheese and all in Because zerg is just disadvantaged on this map pool with standard play. Pros I talked to did not like any of the maps beside Retro and Apocalypse.

FWIW, SK might be one of the least diligent pros, he was playing League of Legends for 6+ hours just a few days before the finals.

Is the crowd too small to be loud enough or is the crowd just urged to stay quiet? What about the casters' yelling?

A truly master of comeback. FWIW, SK might be one of the least diligent pros, he was playing League of Legends for 6+ hours just a few days before the finals. SK and HerO both played no sponsor matches or events in the days leading up to the Finals. Few other top zergs also weren't playing. Usually that means they're practicing offline. Pretty certain they did over 12 hours of ZvZ specific practice and brainstorming leading up to the finals. Which is honestly less than what they did for the semi-finals and quarter finals. ZvZ can't really be practiced for that much or brainstormed for that much. It the most basic match-up. I know for the JyJ vs Mind finals from last year they spend the entire week leading up to the finals playing only TvTs offline. Season 16 finals also had Soulkey not streaming for the entire week beside 2 proleagues at the start of that week. Soulkey documented pro vs pro games(only streamed games count) from ELOBOARD leading up to the finals: ![]() Hero's games: ![]()

Is the crowd too small to be loud enough or is the crowd just urged to stay quiet? What about the casters' yelling? They do. The lastest major incident was Royal finding out Shuttle's proxy DT (his SCV missed Shuttle's proxy buildings by a few pixels but then turned back after hearing the crowd's reaction). I think it happened just last season. They (the organizers) don't care though as far as I know.

I think that's always been the case, but back in the KESPA days there were a lot of players that became way more comfortable playing offline because there were so many more offline games in a year (4+ starleagues and year-round proleague meant that A or S class players were playing 60+ games per year offline), and those games were THE only things that mattered. Nowadays offline games are almost a novelty (even if you're making the Ro8 regularly, you're only playing a handful of games on stage per year), and money-wise matters way less than online proleague matches. Kind of crazy though that a guy like Jaedong who has played 100s of offline games (maybe over a 1000 between BW and SC2 + prelims and special tournaments etc?) has already lost a a bit of his cool from playing offline just after a couple years of offline atrophy.

With full vision with instant OV's in each other's bases, you know what build they're doing and both players can play greedy with lots of drones, making hive tech more likely.
