oh my god group 1 is so funny. Scan vs Artosis would be so funny
Group 2 is also really stacked

Why is Afreeca not having English casting?
|

Looks like Scan eliminated Dewalt 2-0.

Looks like Stork gets knocked out by a lesser known amateur player called Icarus. Hope he qualifies tomorrow.
Soulkey still nowhere to be seen. Weird that he did play the wildcard qualifier.
|
Stork seems quite out of shape compared to the past. Also based on other games I've seen of him. Very possible he won't qualify. In the other qualifiers thread people were saying that soulkey was doing some type of government mandated service (possibly a non military civil service).

Who did just play TvZ? Terran was so strong.
|
|
Both games hero just eaten alive by dropships. GG PianO Shame for hero. He was looking good before those drops killed him both games.
Edit: EffOrt vs BarrackS on stream now.
|
Any game with Artosis yet?
|
Artosis already got knocked out. I think it was a Zerg player named YoungJoo.
Edit: Mini vs Hyuk is on stream now.
|
its kinda amazing and sad the likes of hyuk and miso always reaches the qualifier finals/qualify for asl despite their joke status among expros. i woould rather see a new promising amateur face than them
|
I see what you're saying but It's very rare to see a new promising amateur. Brood war is hard as hell. Its not their fault they are good enough to qualify but not win.

its more like the current scene is effectively just a expro worship circlejerk that everyone (including koreans and foreigners and even myself) unfortunately wants to see it continue and nothing else. so theres little to no incentive and support systems whatsoever to help amateurs improve. soma is a rare exception only because he was buddies with larva. hyukking and miso/ggaemo choking is long old and stale.

Group 3 final: free vs JyJ on stream now. Looks like it's drawn 1-1 so far.

I understand your point but I don't agree with the reasoning. I think the community would be very excited by a new champion amateur. The reason it doesnt happen imo is because of the simple economics of the current state of brood war. Without some previous recognition a promising amateur won't be able to support themselves with streaming alone because people won't be aware of you enough to watch your stream. Therefore that player must work a job; taking a lot of time from practice etc. I don't think its some expro worship, but rather it's very hard for newer blood to logistically break into the top pro level. Not even factoring natural "talent". It's just not the type of game (extremely high level skill requiring huge amounts of daily practice) that will allow a newer player to reach the highest levels without patronage. Patronage like lots of balloon gifts etc is very hard to come by for up and coming players. Wish it wasnt the case myself, but that seems to be hard cold reality of broodwar these days.

what you just said is basically part of "little to no incentive and support systems" that i just mention.
"I think the community would be very excited by a new champion amateur." are they? yes of course it would be nice to see that, but that takes far more effort and incentive than say continuing to spon flash v bisu for the 1000th time or seeing artosis stream bw. and by their vievership the latter stuff is still ultimately what draws people into continuing to watch bw till this day. people are just expecting hot amateurs to magically rise out of thin air.

Very impressive showing by JyJ. Hope that free qualifies tomorrow
|
No surprise at all there. Jyj has been looking great and Free not so much. Happy Jyj made it

I hear you man, but economically, what kind of support systems do you think would possible? I don't see it happening. So we basically agree. The only difference is I think that most fans would love to see someone come out of no where especially in these times.

Korea has more 51 million people, but It's just about 200 people who join qualifier ASL 11?

MIsO Soulkey free Mind Ample Barracks Stork YSC Horang2 Baxter Calm sacsri

The Qualifier is not on AfreecaTV's YouTube.

One more qualifier, right? Rooting for Khala!
|
oh wow.. really interesting results, again! 7411_soso1 who this is? any aka?
Last qualifiers will be an epic battle.. many big names still not qualified.
|
Super thrilled to see Mong in the RO24. Hoping he'll manage to handle the pressure and play to his true level; I still see him as the 6th best T , probably ahead of the likes of ssak and piano, just slightly behind jyj and sorry, even if he doesnt practice as much as those guys.

Personally I'd like to see Sea qualify rather than the likes of Barrack, Leta and Ample. Looks like he lost to Piano in the semi of group 2, so he came quite close despite barely playing the game anymore. I'm all for new blood but wouldn't it be cool if we can see big names like Sea, Last and Rain making a comeback.
|
ahhh damn I was hoping to see Rain participate

Dam the quals are really brutal, you can be good but need luck on your side as well. Especially when you draw a top pro in your group.
Hope Scan can qualify tomorrow!

Hope Scan can qualify tomorrow! yeah it's also weird that qualifiers are all bo3 while the ro24 is full bo1 so you can just bonk out of the tournament after 2 cheeses or rushes.. it's kinda silly but whatever.
