So do u really believe all semipros playing for Soul are doing it cuz they love foreigner team and scene a lot . or Bonyth switching from netwars to Soul
There really isn't enough money in the BW scene currently to make this anywhere near worth it although hopefully if we all keep pushing to grow the scene it might be possible. Are you claiming Fujikura is paying a salary to the 8 or so Koreans who joined SouL as well as Bonyth now? I appreciate the optimism and I'd love it if teams could play their players salaries, but I don't see how this could be fiscally feasible.
I think a lot of the Korean players want to join these foreign teams to get more exposure. For Amateur players in Korea the situation completely sucks. If you're not a top pro level player there isn't really all that much going on for you. You can go to qualifiers and you might get in or you might not, but there's very few lower than highest level pro tournaments in korea. Very few people would ever pay them to play sponmatches so it's not like they get to grow their streams either.

I don't believe anyone is paying players in Broodwar right now. The scene is no where near big enough and nobody has the kind of money to do such a thing.
The winners of season 1 (which was a 15 month long tournament) won something like $700 out of the $1564 prize pool which is the largest team league prize pool outside of Korea. How would paying someone a salary, let alone 8 people a salary for 15 months be worth that.

Yeah good point qikz, only way amateurs can be exposed in Korea is to qualify for ASL or KSL, but it is very hard, given the fact that even pros are not guaranteed to be qualified for the competitions. There are like 10-15 clans in Korean scene and both clans have at least 5-10 top level amateurs who are not famous. Prize for STPL is huge, but it is not even a little motivation for Koreans to participate. They want exposure to the fans, and they love playing in front of many fans. Only 10-20 ppl watch Korean clan league streams, so stpl is kind of a very interesting league they want to play for sure.

Im sure the korean amateurs like having their play streamed, but its not really a secret that Soul) aka Fujikura pays their players, thats why they get so many koreans/top foreigners easily and can dominate the leagues. I believe its like 10 or 15$ per win or something like that..if you live in Poland thats a decent amount of money.
|
bridge the gap between the communities.. they're doing it for the love of the game!
oh man.. some of you guys will just never learn xD that's kinda hilarious, in some weird way.

btw, if this dude is so rich why wouldn't he sponsor a solo 1v1 league or something? If he really loves the game so much..

the dude pays money per won match in cw, which is great imo, given that there is no money in foreign bw unless you are winning tournaments + clan leagues on a regular basis. i dont really know if any of soul players have a salary tho, i really doubt it. edit: shit, dragon already said that

The only problem with mass korean teams is that they have usually only one person as translator, who is more often offline than online during clan wars. That was the issue with WHITE clan, that will be most probably the issue with vTico clan. And its ending with missinterpretations and unneeded walkovers, like the one in round final match NW vs WHITE, after which i dropped being captain because it was ridicolous and unappealing situation. I have nothing against koreans playing in stpl, but since its mainly foreign league they should have join it only if they know basic English communication. And basic communication isn't knowing only four words - 'get out, no brain'.

Aight, I kept my mouth shut long enough, but here's my thoughts on this matter.
Positives: Wico has some really great players wich will make STPL even more interesting this season. iRk played a showgame CW in korean style cw vs Wico earlier this year wich me and crossy set up, it was really great and ended 5-4 in favour of Wico. The whole cw was gm and no problems with the communcations since crossy and also another wico member was really great in english.
Negatives: It's sad that we might not play as much vs the good foreign players in vT. But I hope sfca and cRoSsy balance it out so we get to see all those players on casts as well, they deserve it imo. One thing I really don't like with this, is all those number ID's. It doesnt say who the player is from Wico, so it could easily be confused with a bunch of smurfs. I think if you merge two clans, the players should at least play on their real ID's with different tags, otherwise the production value just goes down. The fun part with playing against SouL's koreans and WHITE clan is that you know who you are facing, even if you play vs an amateur player in WHITE you can still look him up in ladder standings. But I just checked and none of the koreans that merged with vT. has played ladder or any games with their vT ID's yet. That is an issue I would like vT. admins to solve, because it will be much greater for casting the games, and it's really unfair that they can look up their opponents, but we cant see any of their stats/ratings.
When it comes to us clanleaders who occasionally likes to donate money to our players when they do good, it's my money, I do whatever I want with them. Just like every tournament organizer can do w-ever they want with their money. I host inhouse tournaments for my iRk players with a prizepool, because it keeps them motivated to keep performing on both individual and team level. It also gives me a chance to develop them into more then just great CB/FS players, because I can choose the maps they have to play. I can also give my B and C-team players the chance to play vs some really great players from the A-team in those tournaments, it also builds team spirit and connects potential players with great players. If I only donated all my money into 1on1 tournaments the money would go to a very small amount of players every time. If Fuji pays 10$ for each set win in a cw to his players, players who might never see any money coming out of this game suddenly has a chance to earn at least a small amount.
that's all for me! Looking forward to sundays CW vs vT. and all their new great players, and also ofcourse the new upcoming STPL season!
