JD looking good! His APM and his tactical thinking are shining through in these last few tournament games. Watching Sea and Killer struggle in the last fight really highlighted JD's skill in his games.

Watching JD pull off 9 pool vs. Killer's 12 pool (something Liquipedia says is a build order-win/strong advantage for 12p) was really cool. It seemed like Killer was in a pretty strong defensive and economic position, but JD found the perfect spot to engage with his mutas and lings. Such a cool play to watch! And his ZvT vs. Sea seemed very well calculated from the beginning, and played well to the strengths of a brand-new map for this season. Super excited to watch more JD games!

That last game was really bad. First minutes of the game Sea was playing very sloppy, losing all the army left and right and not getting anything done. Basically at some point it was all over.
Then Baxter built some ultralisks and basically his brain switched off. He didn't know what to do next, he never got a proper engagement, was lacking defilers (or lacking usage of defilers) and started losing units one-by-one to barely controlled terran mnm army. Just thinking about this game makes me mad. I miss Larva.

Rather meh all in all. Glad JD got to the next round. Thought Baxter (Killer?) got a build order win but JD pulled that apart beautifully.

Grateful we're getting so much BW again.

Sad not to see Baxter going through he seems really sympathetic. Did he really have some drinks with JD? XD

Back in the day, Jaedong was known for winning ZvZs, even with a BO disadvantage. He basically defied the common knowledge of the rock/paper/scissor BOs in ZvZ, ramping up to a win percentage of close to 80% in the MU. It's really nice to be able to see a bit of that again. Although it seems like Jaedong is back to a form he hasn't been in for years. I'm really happy for him and hope that continues.

Baxter, or Killer as he was called back then, was a bit of JDs protégé back in the KESPA days so I am sure they are friendly with eachother still.

Damn, the Jaedong of old is seriously making a return, impeccable games.

Killer of old seemed present here too lol, aka the Oz recipient of the "doom zoom". Don't think I've seen Ultralisks look that weak in a long time.
MMOs kill APM. However Proleague plus BW Proscene music increase APM -> 100. 이제동 Fighting! Highest ranked Jaedong owner in FPL10 = clearly #1 Jaedong fan~! <- Keeping my sig from 2010

You can see JD doing the same build here vs eros_byul/kangtaewan.

Seems zergs have switched back to three hatch muta against terran. Was there a meta switch that I missed?

3 hatch muta has been the most common build for the last 12 years or so, except for 2009 when 2 hatch was more prevalent.

About the Sea vs Killer game, I don't see why so many people are complaining. Sea played very well in the 2nd part of the game, coming back from a very bad spot. Killer played well too, his engagements were mostly on point, very good swarm usage and sick constant vessel snipes. Even the counter-attack was a good choice, when he realised how much Sea had at his nat, he just turned back and crushed the main army, hard to judge the size of each army beforehand and a bad fight could have cost him the game. The huge mistake was not upgrading further than 1/2 which cost him the game in the end.

His decision to counter attack _was_ bad. If you think your army isn't strong enough at that particular point, you have to stall. You don't stall by sending your whole army to counter attack if the terran is already at your nat. What do you expect him to do? Turn around? Of course not.

the counter attack was a very bad decision, but that kind of stuff happens. no big deal. pretty much all non-flash players do equally questionable stuff at times. but neglecting or forgetting to get 5-2 for his ultralisks for 10 minutes? that's a different level of bad - he was mining from 4 or more bases the entire time. I'd be disappointed seeing that from a B rank nonkorean.

Yeah, true. It's detrimental if the other player keeps up with his upgrades, which Sea did. I was also wondering why he wouldn't go for Plague in such a long game against SK Terran. Makes no sense to me.

I think his apm was also falling a bit in the later stages of the game (not 100% sure though, didn't look it back, but it seemed relatively low) and it really seemed like he couldn't keep up (bad/late dark swarms/ultra's kept running out of dark swarm and suiciding/bad unit control in general/etc.). I think that might also be the cause of the missing upgrades and lack of plague usage. Still quite an achievement, that game was almost impossible to lose.

A note for tastosis:
In game 4 you obviously noticed the lair/den before spire. Larva has actually been popularizing this build order lately. Most noticeably in his bo5 against Best in the Danjjing Starleague he does it in (i believe) the first and last game of the series. It's definitely worth a watch and will give you good insight for future casts. You can find the games in the small vod thread.

This was a fun group to watch, especially the TvZs. Jaedong had a nice idea on that new map and Sea's macro in the last game was pretty insane. It's true that the counter attack and little upgrades by Killer were bad and helped Sea to win, but space control with SK Terran on a big map like Circuit Breaker is really rough and Sea just did it perfectly in the second half of the game imo.
